Eclipse is the fifth largest yacht afloat and estimated to be worth $600 million. Built in Hamburg, Germany by Blohm & Voss shipyards, Eclipse was delivered in 2010 to Russian billionaire oligarch and politician, Roman Abramovich, who also owns superyacht, Solaris. Eclipse was once the world’s longest yacht, until 2013 when it was superseded by Azzam, measuring 56 ft 9 inches longer.
Terence Disdale whose signature style has a textural asian-infused aesthetic, designed the interior, including the superstructure design, and the deck layout. Curved lines are a prominent theme in the interiors and echoing the superstructure; admirers will notice that she has a noticeably curved rear bow.
On board there are 17 staterooms and a spacious master suite with an owner’s deck measuring 185 feet. There is also capacity to carry 85 crew members to take care of guests every wish and command. It’s no wonder that the superyacht is a magnet for celebrities. Guests can enjoy using a spa, gym and beach club, a wellness center and two large swimming pools. The two helipads on board can accommodate three helicopters, and there is extra storage available in a storage hangar below the foredeck.
The pièce de résistance is the modular 52-foot-long swimming pool on the main deck which can be altered throughout the day according to the guests’ needs. It can be left open to the sides, or sheltered with a glass panel. A blue granite floor cover rises up to sit flush with the deck to form a dance floor. Or, it can also be lowered a touch to make a paddling pool for children.
Performance wise, her top speed is 21.5 knots, and her cruising speed is 20 knots. Her cruising range is extensive, stretching as far as 6000 nautical miles.
Earlier this year Abramovich averted European waters to avoid having his superyachts seized due to possible sanctions ensuing the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. It’s no surprise that since security is of the utmost importance to the owner, who chose to fit a missile detection system, missile launchers and self-defense systems.
