Edgewater 368CC Video: First Look

Can you really call a “fishing boat” like the 2015 Edgewater 368CC  a yacht? Let’s consider: it has a full cabin, gobs of comfy seating, and air conditioning. It runs at outrageous speeds (over 65 MPH), is built with the latest high-tech fiberglass construction techniques, and handles like a sportscar. Oh, and it also costs more than the average American’s house. So while it may not be the QE II, yes, we would argue that the Edgewater 368CC deserves true yacht status. Take a look at this quick video tour of the model, and see if you agree.

This boat is the latest in a trend we’ve seen, towards building large, open boats with console cabins which are best called center console yachts. It’s hard to say exactly when the phenomenon began, but some early benchmark models have been around for close to a decade. The market really took off, however, with boats like the Boston Whaler 370 Outrage (learn more about this model by reading Boston Whaler 370 Outrage, Setting Trends), which opened a lot of eyes to the possibilities the center console design provided on larger platforms. Then multiple-purpose boats like the Intrepid 40 came along (Intrepid 40 Center Console: the Ultimate Yacht Tender), peaking the interest of anglers and megayacht owners, alike. This year we saw the size of CCYs grow even more, with the introduction of the world’s largest center console, the Hydra-Sports 53 Suenos.

So, what do you think? Can a boat like the Edgewater 368CC really qualify as a yacht? Before you make the call, you might want to read the full review of this model on boats.com, Edgewater 368CC: Commanding Center Console. You can also visit the Edgewater Boats web site. The more you learn about this boat, the more we bet you’ll agree—yes, this is in fact a yacht.
