Hull and Deck
The hull is single-skinned GRP construction. Reinforced points (keel, rudder, chain plates, hull-deck joint) help to strengthen the structure. A structural inner moulding is bonded and laminated to the hull. Its structural role is important as it takes and absorbs the stresses at pressure points (shroud chainplate tie rods, keel, rudder, etc.), and spreads any loads guaranteeing reduced strain on the hull. The surface material of the inner moulding makes cleaning easier and provides a better finish. The standard hull is white in colour with blue and silver livery. The deck is sandwich construction (glass fibre and balsa) for an optimal strength/weight ratio and excellent thermal and sound insulation. A diamond point non-slip surface increases safety over all areas of movement on deck.
BOTY
The Beneteau 373 was chosen for BOTY based on several of its signature traits from her larger sisterships such as the Beneteau 423 and 393. “This 37 footer features a stall shower, panoramic forward-facing windows that bring plenty of light into the cabin, and the same fiberglass grid system the manufacturer uses in its other models to take the sailing loads. ““For our purposes, I like seeing stall showers...the Beneteau 373 delivers a whole lot of bang for the buck,” commented Bill Lee, Boat of the Year Judge. “The standout feature on both the 373 and its new little sister, the 323, is a patented wheel that rotates 90 degrees; it is Beneteau’s answer to the industry-wide desire to open the passage straight through the cockpit from the transom, and it’s simpler than twin helm stations. Designed by naval architects Berret/Racoupeau, the 373 replaces the 361, of which hundreds have been built since its introduction in 1999,” said Murphy. The Beneteau 373 features the similar force disbursement components that Beneteau uses in other boats in its line, which all are tied to a fiberglass grid bonded to the hull that distributes all the sailing loads. “That grid system is superb”, said Ralph Naranjo, Technical Editor. The Beneteau 373 will join the ranks of previous BOTY winners, an award series that has crowned the standout designs launched for the coming year for nearly two decades.
Vesel Overview
GANNET is the roomy two cabin version of the very popular Beneteau 373 with a queen sized double forward with two hanging lockers; “U” shaped upholstered settee and a wooden drop-down dinette table which makes up salon berths to a double or adequate seating for six. The nicely upholstered settee to starboard gives way to the nav. station and spacious head compartment with a very large shower stall and two opening ports. Across on the port side is the J shaped galley and aft is the spacious aft quarter cabin with a hanging locker, dressing area with a small settee, and storage lockers and tray to port and a storage shelf to starboard. Lewmar sky screens on hatches provide sun-block or built-in screens. Note the salon is quite a bit larger with exceptional 6'7"+ headroom than her smaller counterparts. Even the galley, head, and dressing areas in the cabins maintain exceptional headroom... Perfect for those who are "height challenged".
