Description
The Able 44' Downeast Express Cruiser reminds one of the handsome, traditional "wooden" Bunker and Ellis "picnic" cruisers, built in the Mt. Desert Island region of Maine 40-50 years ago. SANS SOUCI however, offers all the advantages of modern day fiberglass technology without sacrificing any elegance or beauty. SANS SOUCI is a semi-custom-built vessel. Only six of these Able Express Cruisers were built. What makes this design so unique and pleasing? Her vee hull shape forward flattens out aft to a hard chine, similar to a lobster boat, so you have speed and fuel economy, and maneuverability, at all speeds, slow or fast, something not found in most vee bottomed vessels. SANS SOUCI also combines living space on deck with an exceptionally well designed interior layout. Her cherry joinerwork is some of the finest this office has seen, and storage is unusually well-executed and generous compared to most other Express-style Cruisers. If you are looking for something unique, with the best quality one can find, offering 20 knot cruising speeds, SANS SOUCI may be your vessel. She will not disappoint. She is a two owner vessel which has been kept impeccably, from clean bilges to first class varnish work. Please call for your inspection and thank you for your interest.

VESSEL DETAILS
HULL & DECK: (Hull #3); Launched May 1998
- Dark green Awlgripped hull topsides with white boottop, gold cove stripe, and red bottom.
- Hull and deck are 1" balsa Baltek end grain core and biaxial and unidirectional nonwoven fiberglass using Vinylester resin throughout (solid fiberglass used in areas penetrated by thru-hulls and deck hardware).
- Decks and cockpit sole are moulded fiberglass, non-skid, in Awlgrip cream-colored gelcoat.
Superstructure is white molded fiberglass. - Hull is a "V" shape with a very fine forward entry for wave penetration, which flattens out to a solid fiberglass hard chine at transom, ending in a 7.5 degree deadrise. This results in better performance and fuel economy at lower speeds than a true deep "V" hull.
- There is a partial keel which provides excellent tracking and some protection for the running gear in case of grounding.
- Full length custom spray rails have been bolted into solid fiberglass on the chines.
- Teak swim platform with S/S supports, with folding swim ladder under.
