Boat Details

Description

The Grand Banks 36 Classic has a well earned reputation throughout the world for unmatched quality, value and reliability. 36 #824 is a fine example of the legendary design and will bring the next owners years of enjoyment and non stop compliments.

1988 Grand Banks 36 Classic - "KIPPIS"

The Grand Banks 36 Classic has long set the standard for craftsmanship, reliability, and timeless style in the trawler world—and hull #824 is no exception. “KIPPIS” is an exceptional example of this renowned design, with a history of light use, quality care, and thoughtful upgrades that make her truly shine.

Delivered new to Southern California in 1988 and owned by just three meticulous stewards since, she boasts only 2,156 original hours. This is one of the coveted "new generation" 36s, built after hull #787, which brought a 6-inch beam and length increase—offering a noticeably more spacious interior and engine room without compromising the boat’s legendary lines.

Highlights include:

  • Clean November 2024 survey ($185K)

  • Freshly varnished interior teak sole

  • Resealed exterior decks

  • Clean oil samples

  • Low hours and outstanding condition throughout

With production of the GB 36 Classic ending in 2003, demand for well-kept, low-hour examples like “KIPPIS” has only grown stronger. For the Grand Banks enthusiast or the discerning first-time buyer, hull #824 represents a rare opportunity to step into a heritage vessel that turns heads in any harbor and offers a bright cruising future.

Accommodations

Spacious, Smart, and Comfortably Appointed – A True Home Afloat

The master stateroom aboard KIPPIS features Grand Banks’ highly sought-after standard layout, designed with both comfort and practicality in mind. To starboard, you’ll find a generous double berth, while a single berth to port offers flexibility for guests or solo sleepers. Both berths are fitted with plush innerspring mattresses for restful nights, whether you're anchored in a quiet cove or underway to your next destination. Ample drawer storage below each berth ensures your belongings stay organized and out of sight.

The ensuite head is notably spacious and filled with natural light. With full standing headroom, a separate stall shower, and a cultured marble countertop with integrated sink, it offers the kind of comfort you’d expect at home. A large mirror, deep drawers, and a convenient locker complete the space — beautifully functional and easy to keep tidy.

At the aft end of the stateroom, a private companionway leads directly to the aft deck, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. Twin teak doors swing open to reveal a cleverly recessed teak ladder, which tucks neatly away when not in use.

Forward, the guest stateroom is equally well-appointed, with a large hanging locker and abundant built-in storage. Its own adjoining head includes a cultured marble sink and countertop, generous mirror, full headroom, and a dedicated shower — offering guests (or family) comfort and privacy rarely found in vessels of this size.

Salon & Galley

Warm, Welcoming & Wonderfully Functional – Galley & Salon Living

Step into the heart of KIPPIS, where timeless teak craftsmanship meets practical comfort. The galley is thoughtfully designed for life on board — whether you’re preparing a gourmet meal for guests or simply brewing your morning coffee as the sun rises over the harbor. A hot and cold pressurized water system, three-burner stove with oven, large stainless steel sink, electric cold plate refrigerator, and dedicated dish locker ensure everything you need is within easy reach. It's a space that feels more like a proper kitchen than a compact galley — and it’s ready for anything from a full crew breakfast to a candlelit dinner for two.

Just steps away, the salon invites you to relax and unwind in a beautifully appointed living space wrapped in warm teak. An L-shaped settee surrounds the classic solid teak yacht table, perfect for dining, reading, or entertaining. A bar cabinet adds a touch of sophistication and function, while the helm station blends seamlessly into the space — letting you stay connected to the conversation even when underway.

Richly grained woodwork is complemented by tastefully selected upholstery and drapes, creating a cozy yet elegant ambiance. Twin salon doors to port and starboard provide effortless access to the decks and flybridge, making this a hub of easy movement and comfortable living — whether you’re hosting friends or enjoying a quiet evening at anchor.

  • Aqua Air cold plate refrigeration
  • Princess 3 burner propane range & oven with LPG control
  • Stainless steel sink
  • Single lever faucet
  • Sink cover with cutting boards
  • Teak dish locker with adjustable shelves
  • Fiberglass waste bin

Deck & Hull

Built for Confidence. Engineered for the Long Haul.

When it comes to offshore cruising, safety isn’t an option — it’s a necessity. And the Grand Banks 36 Classic delivers that peace of mind in every inch of her design and construction. No corners were cut, and no compromise made. From her rugged hull to the smallest detail below the waterline, KIPPIS is built to take care of you when it matters most.

She features dependable mechanical steering backed by emergency steering capability, so you’re never left without control. Both helm stations are outfitted with comprehensive alarm panels that monitor vital systems: engine oil pressure, water temperature, transmission oil temperature, bilge pump operation, and even a reminder light if you forget to switch off the engine room lights.

Every electrical circuit is breaker-protected, and all thru-hull fittings below the waterline are secured with double hose clamps and sea cocks, giving you an extra layer of protection where it counts most. A well-positioned automatic bilge pump offers fast response and easy access from the salon, while electric blowers ventilate the engine room, keeping systems cool and running efficiently.

All windows feature three-ply laminated safety glass, and sturdy life rails and grab rails surround the cabin and flybridge, ensuring safe movement on deck in all conditions. Below, fiberglass pans under the engines catch oil drips, keeping the bilge clean and your conscience clear.

She carries 400 gallons of fuel and 140 gallons of fresh water, letting you cruise far from the marina with total independence. A fuel manifold panel makes tank management simple, with sight gauges and safety shutoff valves on each tank and easy-access Racor fuel filters. Even the underwater gear, thru-hulls, tanks, and deck fills are copper bonded and grounded to a single engine frame point, ensuring safe, reliable system performance.

To complete the package, a Lofrans electric windlass with three-station controls makes anchoring safe and effortless — giving you complete control whether you're at the helm, on deck, or up top.

This is a vessel built not just to cruise, but to inspire confidence every mile of the journey.
