Polar Kraft
Few people looking for an aluminum boat will fail to recognize the name Polar Kraft. This builder of fishing, hunting, and utility boats has a whopping 70 models in their lineup. They range from simple jon boats, to decked-out bass boats. Side console, center console, and full windshield versions of many of their models are available, and in numerous color patterns and paint jobs. Today part of the Nautic Global Group and based in Elkhart, IN, Polar Kraft's roots come from a 14-foot model built of aluminum that was cut with hand shears in the early 1950s. Today's boats are, of course, built in a slightly more complex way, and the aluminum now gets cut with a computer-controlled plasma torch. Other modern construction features incorporated into Polar Krafts include longitudinal I-beam stringer grids, urethane closed-cell foam flotation, and reverse-chine hulls.
