Spirit 1 is a professionally built custom cruising catamaran and a true off-grid world sailing catamaran. She is completely self powered by a massive 2100 watt solar array fitted with a Mastervolt and Outback charging system to ReLion lithium batteries for completely energy independent cruising. She features a full length keel with double bottom, forward and aft crash compartments providing reserve buoyancy and safety. She was built to class survey standards in hull (4mm aluminum), machinery, electrical and safety. She underwent a major refit in 2016 that included; exterior sandblast/new coatings, interior strip/remodel. She has all new wiring, plumbing, equipment, portlights and hatches. Her Flybridge and aft cockpit with fiberglass tops, Isonglass all round and sunbrella sun shades. Spirit 1 is perfect for the ultimate off-grid, blue water cruising adventure!
Designed by the internationally acclaimed Australian Lock Crowther and built by professional boat builder South Pacific Marine, Queensland, Australia. Spirit 1 has proven herself a thoroughbred among blue water cruisers.
Constructed to withstand the demands of Ocean crossings, a pre-purchase survey by Oceanic Yacht Design described her as follows: “Designed for extended voyages where conditions may exceed wind force 8 (Beaufort Scale) and significant wave heights of 4 meters and above...”
During the years spent cruising US East coast, Bahamas and Caribbean waters she has exhibited good seakeeping thus providing a very safe and comfortable cruising platform.
Spirit 1 is not a run of the mill production catamaran.
Professionally built using 5083-H321 sheet/6061-T6 extrusion to provide high longitudinal strength while allowing for the ship's natural flex in high seas operations. Her structure was designed and built to meet the requirements for commercial survey for Offshore Operations which require increased material thickness, scantling, a full length keel providing a double bottom to each hull and sealed crash bulkheads both forward and aft.
Electrical fitout is to commercial survey with all circuits individually protected.
Machinery fitout to commercial survey with 75Hp primary propulsion in each pontoon providing the required thrust requirements to maintain speed over ground in head seas whilst allowing engines to operate at nominal rpm’s to meet commercial standards of time between overhauls.
Bilge monitoring and pumping to commercial survey with 5 x 2000gl/hr pumps along the length of each hull.
Vessel went through major refit May 2015 through November 2016 at St Johns Shipbuilding Inc., Palatka. Scope of works included, but not limited to, complete sandblast of hull, topsides and superstructure to parent material and recoating, upgrade replacement of machinery, electrical, navionics, toilets, HVAC, interior linings, portlights.
The cockpit is very spacious and comfortable with wrap-around seating. Both rollup Isonglass and Sunbrella shade blinds allow for the area to be closed off in adverse weather or opened up in good conditions. A full fiberglass roof extending well aft over the dinghy arch provides good insulation and protection from harsh sun.
The main salon/galley is spacious with an uncluttered design and wrap around windows. Port pontoon features two cabins with queen beds, shower, vanity and toilet facilities. Starboard pontoon features king bed, shower, vanity, toilet and laundry facilities. Interior HVAC provides both heating and cooling as required. Commercial watermaker capacity of 600gls/day.
Entire electrical design allows for permanent off-grid operations with Lithium batteries and over 2000 watts of solar array, P&S main engine high capacity charging and backup generator.
All essential DC equipment is duplicated to allow for operational redundancy. Even down to two independent autopilots.
The above all combined with a sail plan allowing for single handed operations.
Repair and maintenance is critical on any blue water cruising vessel and Spirit 1 has been maintained to the highest level. A large inventory of tools and spares exists and is carried on board.
Large sail inventory of boom stack Main, 135% furling Genoa, Midstay furling jib, Storm jib, Gennaker and Code Zero.
350 feet x 3/8” stainless steel anchor chain.
Duel anchors located in roller leads for easy and fast deployment.
