1994 Simpson 42 | Windvane
Designed by the renowned Roger Simpson, Windvane is a well-constructed, proven cruising catamaran that has been converted to electric propulsion for optimal environmental sustainability and economy.
When under power, Windvane is propelled by two Krautler 9kw retractable electric pods resulting in no noise, smell, vibration or pollution! The catamaran’s 23 KW hours of lithium batteries ensure you can motor for several hours before you need to use the 9KW backup generator.
Windvane’s hulls are composed of a fibreglass-end grain balsa-core sandwich epoxy/glass, and she handles well under sail with a sloop rig, main, headsail and screecher that are all in good condition.
She has a simple yet very functional layout and has been nicely finished to a standard not usually seen on Simpson designs. Her modern and light fit-out surpasses many newer vessels.
Accommodation comprises two queen and one double cabin, all enjoying ample nature light and comfort. There is also a fourth cabin with single bunk in the corridor that affords convenient accommodation for additional guests when required. The catamaran is fitted with two roomy and modern heads with the aft port bathroom including a separate shower that can accommodate taller crew.
The generous saloon has a large lounge and dining table and enjoys good ventilation. There is also a dedicated navigation table adjacent. The galley down is located on the starboard side and is fitted with a 120L refrigeration unit, a pantry area and abundance of bench space and storage for extended cruising. A large freezer is located under a lounge bench seat.
Windvane has a roomy cockpit with fixed hardtop that houses the solar panels as well as a soft bimini extending over the transom and davits for extra shade. The helm station affords good views to all angles and has an electric winch for the halyard and headsail sheeting. The catamaran is very easy to sail shorthanded with all lines returning to the helm.
New standing rigging in September 2022 and a May 2022 pre-sale survey available for potential buyers. This is certainly a catamaran with a difference and requires inspection to be appreciated.
