Very impressive boat.
***Vessel Originally commissioned for Billy Joel in 1986 and completed in 1988. Noted in the song "The Downeaster Alexa"***
The interior has a 6’6” headroom throughout and is elegantly panel in satin finished teak with teak and holly cabin sole and with white painted tambour overhead with contrasting laminated teak and ash deck beams.
The deck house and the lower steering station with a helmsman’s seat forward to port and a large chart table to starboard. Behind the chart table is the L-shaped galley. Facing the aft starboard corner to port behind the helm is a teak bookcase and a U-shaped settee which converts to a full-sized berth. This area also contains the stereo, television, and the Heart inverter controls. A drop leaf table has an easily removed base for use in either the cabin or cockpit.
Forward, in the lower cabin, is a queen-sized V-Berth with filler and with drawer storage below and shelf storage above. To starboard is a small settee and hanging locker, followed by a head with vanity, electric marine toilet and stall shower. Aft of that to port is a dresser with storage above and below with a settee that converts to a lower and an upper oversized berth. The entire area below deck has been left open and could easily be converted into two separate cabins with the addition of a bulkhead and door.
The lower accommodations may be closed off from the wheel house/salon with foldaway doors and a sliding hatch, and an oversized sliding door leads aft into the large cockpit. The oversized custom teak swim platform allows comfortable access and egress.
The hull was molded by Jarvis Newman Boat Builders in 1986 and then taken to custom boatbuilder Wilbur Yachts in Southwest Harbor, Maine, where it was finished with great attention to detail in 1988.
The hull is constructed of molded fiberglass with a deck of fiberglass skin over plywood, and with a thick teak deck overlay. The superstructure is teak and the cabin tops are fiberglass covered with a teak overlay. The superstructure is finished in varnished teak with a trunk cabin forward followed by the deckhouse with a flybridge top.
In 1998-99 the yacht was taken to Little Harbor/Hinckley for an extensive refit which included:
