Irwin has a great reputation for building super solid oceangoing yachts. This 52ft Mark 3 is a nice example of a sloop rigged model. There is heaps of space on deck for lounging around, and an awesome setup with full wrap around clears which completely enclose helm station and deck saloon area.
This design was foreword thinking in its time and has come into its own. Very seaworthy with high topsides, this boat is super dry in the ocean but doesnt compromise on water access with an electric dropdown boarding platform.
This boat motors really well with the 2015 Volvo Penta D2-75 engine which has done approx. 1,800 hours.
The interior is huge and launch-like inside. Very beamy and spacious for entertaining, there is a kitchen bench bar and room enough for a dance floor in the saloon.
The boat is very well insulated, and the reverse cycle air conditioning means you can escape the heat or hunker down in the cold, great for cruising high or low latitudes. There is lots of accommodation with roomy cabins and full-size berths.
Brand new genoa sheets and furling lines has been installed, all other halyards have been checked and good to go for another couple of years.
The steps to the top of the mast are great for servicing or looking out for reefs in far flung pacific islands.
The boat has a long keel with a separate half skeg rudder which makes for better manoeuvrability with good protection to the shaft and bearings.
The skipper could pull this boat up to any isolated dodgy wharf with the rubbing strip on the topsides, and tying up easily, with no concern for chaffing with the bulwark fairleads leading into the cleats. The boat has a New Zealand EWof. It can take 110 and or 220 volts shore power and has a step-down converter. This boat has the ability to travel the world and plug in to any power available.
