The Freedom 30 is a wonderful cruising yacht. She offers a very easy to handle rig, large, comfortable cockpit and easily traveled side decks. Below she offers room and comfort normally only found on much larger boats. She is a Gary Mull design, famous for her un-stayed, carbon fiber rig, self-tending jib and easy to handle sail plan.
Freedom Yachts & TPI came together with innovative technologies to build a strong, fast, yet surprisingly comfortable cruiser. The Freedom 30 gives new meaning to simple, effortless sailing. All lines lead aft, the main & jib are self-tacking. The free-standing carbon fiber mast allows for no shrouds and, therefore, no chain plates to leak. There is no backstay, so there is a larger roach on the main & lazy jacks eliminate flaking the main. You can turn the helm hard over and the boat will sail itself in circles without laying a hand on the lines! Two private double cabins and a spacious salon provide plenty of comfortable space.
The Freedom 30 is also included in "The World’s Best Sailboats" by Ferenc Mate.
The interior gets high marks, with teak/holly sole and teak wood used judiciously through out. Natural light and ventilation are very good via 4 opening ports, 4 large fixed ports and three hatches. Artificial light is equally abundant with reading lamps at each berth and settee as well as additional overhead dome lamps. There are two comfortable and private staterooms. Starting with the forward stateroom you have an enclosed room with V-berth and filler. Access to the chain locker is through the forward bulkhead. Below the berth is ample storage. There is a hanging locker located just aft of the berth and to starboard. Aft of the forward cabin and to port is the fully enclosed head with manual marine toilet plumbed to Y valve & holding tank. The vanity has good counter space and sink with hot and cold pressure water and shower.. There is good storage behind the head and under the sink. Following aft is the main salon featuring straight port and starboard settees. Forward of the starboard settee is a good size shelf with a cut out making this a full length sea berth. There is a water tank under the starboard settee and storage under the port. Behind the seat backs of both settees is more storage. Outboard of the port settee is also two cabinets with louvered doors and book shelf. The teak fold out table is large with room for 6 and when folded up hides shelves for bottles or glassware. The nav station and galley are aft of the salon. The nav station to starboard has a workable 30"x24" surface area. there is storage underneath the lift up table and in a large cabinet below. Across from the nav table is the galley with 2 burner stove, SS sink, w/H&C pressure water and large refrigerator. Behind the Nav station to port is the aft quarter berth. Practical sailor describes this cabin as "serviceable, private, and surprisingly well-ventilated". There is a large double berth. under the berth is fuel tank access, engine access and storage. There is surprising amount of living space below, it is the type of interior you would expect to find on many 35 foot boats.
Galley
This is a well thought out L-shaped Galley. The refrigerator is top loading and quite large for ample stowage. You have a single stainless sink with hot and cold pressure water. Under the sink is a silverware drawer and large cabinet. Behind the fridge is shelf storage for china. Outboard of the stove is a sliding cabinet for additional storage.
