Powerboat Guide Description PowerBoat Guide Description
Californian 55 Cockpit MY Overview Probably the best looking of Californian’s series of motor yachts, the 55 Cockpit MY is simply a Californian 48 MY with a 7-foot cockpit extension. Her rakish flush-deck profile has aged well over the years, and the 55 remains a sought-after boat thanks to her quality construction and excellent craftsmanship.
Her three-stateroom interior—the original floorplan had over/under berths forward—was tastefully finished with teak woodwork throughout (dark walnut in pre-1988 models). A slide-out settee in the small guest stateroom aft of the salon converts into a double berth, and all three heads are fitted with separate stall showers.
The upscale interior was lavishly decorated with quality fabrics and furnishings throughout. With her narrow beam and wide side decks, the salon dimensions are modest compared with those of other 55-footers.
The aft deck, however, is very spacious as is the flybridge. A popular boat—about forty were built—twin 375hp Cat diesels were standard in the 55 CMY (about 15-knots cruise), but most were equipped with optional 485hp 6-71s (18-knots cruise/low 20s top) or—better yet—550hp 6V92s which cruise at 20 knots.
