1919 Classic Dark Harbor 1726ft

A Dark Harbor 17 is a pure sailing machine of great beauty; easily single-handed and offering comfort and safety with a small cuddy cabin and self-bailing cockpit.  The lovely, slender shape, with long overhangs, deep draft and large rig provide wonderfully sweet “feel” in this powerful, fast, responsive and handy boat.

The round-front cabin trunk forms a cozy cabin that is just big enough for two narrow berths. Although headroom is minimal, the cockpit well will sleep two in fair comfort under a boom tent. Mostly the cuddy serves as storage space, shelter in a rain squall, and a bit of privacy if desired.

There are larger boats of similar character, but a “Seventeen” is probably the smallest design that offers such a fine and elegant sailing experience.

ELLEN was completely rebuilt by the Rockland Apprenticeshop in 2006 under her previous name, "STARGAZER".  This work included all new frames and floor timbers, new keel and deadwood, new plywood/Dynel deck, new house and toe rails.  New keel bolts and all fasteners are bronze and the new hull frames are fastened to the planking with copper rivets.    Sails were new in 2011.  

In 2022 ELLEN underwent a complete cosmetic restoration at Artisan Boatworks in Rockport, ME.  All exterior paint and varnish was stripped and renewed, the sheer line was corrected with new toe rails, topsides were faired, the bilge was repainted, and all spars were stripped and revarnished.  ELLEN competed successfully in the 2022 Camden Classic Cup, and won the attention of several prominent professional photographers.

ELLEN is in excellent condition - both structurally and cosmetically.  She comes with a 12V automatic bilge pump with solar charger, sail covers, and a bronze outboard bracket.   Launching, rigging and delivery to your mooring can be included with sale.
