1914 Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 2532ft

Vitessa is an original Buzzard Bay 25 making the boat a key piece of yachting history. In 1914 The Beverly Yacht Club commissioned Nat Herreshoff to design a gaff rigged sloop for inshore racing. That spring five boats were launched - Mink, Vitessa, Bagatellea, White Cap and Tarantula. Today, Vitessa, Mink and Bagatellea remain active. Tarantula hasn't been seen since 1920 and White Cap (last named Aria) was donated to the Herreshoff Museum in 1992.

From 2000-2001 Vitessa received a significant rebuild including all new frames, hull fastenings, keel bolts, deck, house top, and cockpit combings. The current owners have provided Vitessa with exemplary annual maintenance and the boat hangs off their home in Round Pond each summer. Somewhere along the way Vitessa's rig was modified and the boat now sails as a yawl making it an ideal daysailer and classic racer.
