A Dark Harbor 17 (AKA North Haven Knockabout, Manchester 17, and Northeast Harbor B Class) is a pure sailing machine of great beauty; easily single-handed and offering comfort and safety with a small cuddy cabin and self-bailing cockpit. The lovely, slender shape, with long overhangs, deep draft and large rig provide wonderfully sweet “feel” in this powerful, fast, responsive and handy boat.
The round-front oak cabin trunk forms a cozy cabin that is just big enough for two narrow berths. Although headroom is minimal, the cockpit well will sleep two in fair comfort under a boom tent. Mostly the cuddy serves as storage space, shelter in a rain squall, and a bit of privacy if desired.
There are larger boats of similar character, but a “Seventeen” is probably the smallest design that offers such a fine and elegant sailing experience.
TIGER was built in 1910 as one of the original fleet ordered by the North Haven Casino. She was completely restored (literally 100%) by Artisan Boatworks in 2006, and has competed successfully in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, Camden Classics, 100th Anniversary Knockabout Regatta (Winner), and various North Haven Casino regattas (multiple winner). TIGER has been professionally maintained to the highest standard, features Nat Wilson sails, is in "as new" condition and ready to launch.
For daysailing, racing, and the occasional overnight, TIGER would be the perfect vessel to spark a lifelong passion for classic yachting.
