What Our Clients Say
Lee and Cynthia Wheelehan
When shopping for our loop boat in 2015, we had stopped at Virginia Yacht Brokers. We were impressed with how clean the boats were, how easy it was to see several boats in one location and how pleasant it was dealing with Chuck Grice. Five years later, when it came time to sell our Mainship, we did not hesitate to call Chuck. We live in Wilmington, NC and could have listed it with any of dozens of closer brokers. However, we thought that moving the boat 300 miles was worth it to list it at Virginia Yacht Brokers. Most brokers seem to be part-time and sell boats as a side job. At Virginia Yacht Brokers, they are full-time (actually more than that because I was able to reach Chuck nights and weekends) and very experienced.
Virginia Yacht Brokers has a great team. Chuck knows a lot about boats. Kelsey does a great job staging the boat and taking pictures and videos. Parker graduated from Chapmans and is ABYC certified. He was able to demonstrate the chart plotters on our boat after the buyer’s surveyor had trouble. All in all, it was a great selling experience for us. We brought the boat to Atlantic Yacht Basin, emptied it out and drove home. Virginia Yacht Brokers did everything else so it was a very easy process for us. We had faith in Chuck and it was rewarded. The boat sold in a timely manner at a fair price. Best of all – no drama. Thanks Chuck, Kelsey, and Parker.
Chuck, Kelsey & Parker, well we finally arrived home (delayed due to two tropical storms and the bands from a third). It was a great trip. Just to let you know after 29 days and 800 miles we love the boat even more. Thanks for brokering this purchase. You made every aspect feel stress free. You are at the top of my "Rolodex" for those looking for boats. Thanks again. Hope to see you all again sometime. Stay well and God bless.
Looking for our next boat had been nothing but painful – a deal that fell through, mispresented listings and brokers who had no idea what they were listing, and we were starting to get discouraged that our dream of having a new boat for the upcoming season was not going to happen. After finding a listing for a Tiara 3800 Open on Virginia Yacht Brokers’ website and talking to Chuck about the listing, we knew we had found the perfect boat AND the right broker. Having bought and sold other boats and real estate, no deal every goes smoothly – except this one, and we feel that Chuck was the defining difference in the process! Chuck’s ability to bring buyers and sellers together for a reasonable deal was just one of the reasons we enjoyed working with him. He was extremely organized, courteous and calm, he provided updates as the process moved along, and he gave us great advice on who to contact in the area for service or support. Being out of state, we also had concerns about not being present for the survey or seeing the boat prepped for shipping; Chuck sent us photos and videos of all the important milestones so we didn’t feel like we missed anything. He definitely went above and beyond for us! Thank you Chuck for getting us in our dream boat!
Sue and I would like to thank you very much for your advice and wise counsel during the process of selling Last Hurrah. Having bought and sold several boats I know it is often a nerve wracking process but especially so when the boat is in Norfolk, we are in England and we have the Atlantic between us!
You both have kept us well informed, have offered sage advice and brought matters to a satisfactory conclusion and for that, we thank you.
We hope you stay well in these testing times and we would have no hesitation in strongly recommending your service to potential buyers or sellers.
From the moment I contacted Virginia Yacht Brokers and spoke to Chuck Grice, I knew I had chosen the right brokerage. There was a listing I was interested in: a 1984 Monk 36, NEPENTHE. Chuck insisted that I visit Virginia Yacht Brokers to look at the boat. Once I inspected the boat, I decided to make an offer. Naturally I had a slight case of the jitters making such a big purchase, however my mind was put at ease by Parker Griffo, who handled all the negotiations. Parker did an outstanding job for me, answered all of my questions, and went "above and beyond." He was never more than a phone call away. Once the purchase was finalized, Parker walked me through the entire purchasing process. He was there for the survey and sea trial. Once the purchase was complete, Parker continued to help me with any concerns that I had. It is a great feeling knowing that I am much more than a "customer." Thanks to Parker, and everyone at Virginia Yacht Brokers!
We had a wonderful experience with Virginia Yacht Brokers in the sale of our Monk 36, though that was not a surprise to us since we had previous experience with Chuck and Kelsey. When we purchased the Monk in 2009, it was from Virginia Yacht Brokers. At that time, though, we were going through an on-line broker as our agent. That fellow did little more than make phone calls to schedule visits to the boat However, Chuck Grice was amazing throughout the purchase to the point where we thought he was as much our broker as he was the previous owner’s broker.
When it came time to sell our Monk, we did not hesitate to engage Virginia Yacht Brokers as our “actual broker” this time. Again, our experience was outstanding and very successful, as the marketing effort was so effective the boat was sold in about one month. On this transaction, however, Parker Griffo handled the entire transaction efficiently and very professionally. We continue to be impressed with the level of performance of Virginia Yacht Brokers. We would not hesitate to do business with them again.
My wife Betsy and I recently sold our 2004 Monk 36 trawler through Virginia Yacht Brokers. We had owned the vessel for thirteen years. She had been used extensively, with 5000 hours put on the engine by us. The complete experience could not have been more completely pleasant. The vessel was initially detailed to a level where she showed as new. Staging was done that made her show very well. The preparation of our boat before showing was superb. It was all done seamlessly, with no questions for us. The cost for detailing and staging was very reasonable, particularly in consideration of how well it was done. Having the vessel at Virginia Yacht Broker’s place of business made it unnecessary for us to be involved with showing her to prospective buyers.
Chuck and Kelsey handled the communications with the buyer with very little input from us. There were very few questions for us to respond to. When it came time for the closing, that was all handled by Chuck and Kelsey. Documents were transmitted electronically, and they were very easy to review and respond to. We were very fortunate to have a buyer who was very experienced, knowledgeable and pleasant.
We chose Virginia Yacht Brokers because we knew of their record of handling the sale of several Monk 36’s. We certainly were glad we made that choice. Our boat was under contract very quickly, and a closing was completed in a very few weeks. We also chose this brokerage, because we had known Chuck for many years, and knew his very pleasant manner and professionalism.
We would recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers without reservation. The entire experience was far easier than we had expected. We have not had any other transaction handled so completely and flawlessly, with minimal involvement on our part. We would welcome talking with anyone considering Virginia Yacht Brokers for their vessel.
We’ve bought and sold a few boats over the years, and our experience with Virginia Yacht Brokers was the most satisfying of all. Chuck and Kelsey have developed a winner of a process for selling boats. It seems obvious, but its simplicity is stunning: clear your boat out, and let them do the rest.
Chuck spared us the common back-and-forth, adversarial-type negotiation that sometimes occurs, because he took the time to educate himself about the type of boat we owned, and then asked the right questions of us as owners – therefore arriving at a selling price that was reasonable and agreeable to us. That takes experience – and we truly appreciate it.
(PS: as for Kelsey, who did the photography and the video, I wish she could make our house look that good!)
Chuck, Kelsey, and Parker,
Thanks you so much for the professional and thorough job that you did with the sale of our boat. Although we were not present during the sale, we always felt like the boat was in great hands and never feared that something more needed to be done in order for her to show well. The record number of hits and views that the boat received once posted on your site is a true testament to the way in which you presented her. We hope to work with you again when the time comes to purchase or sell another boat.
Virginia yacht Brokers at Atlantic Yacht Basin really needs to have a warning label. They are so intuitive to your needs, attitudes, experience combined with the knowledge of the yachts that the sell that you quickly become addicted and return repeatedly to their brokerage. Unlike other addictions they continue to provide service beyond “selling” you a boat. They are a full service brokerage and have at their fingertips a complete spectrum of services. They have been in bussiness for many years and have hundreds, if not thousands of customers, technicians and other yacht professionals who readily attest to their integrity, expertise and sincerity, but they still should have a warning label because once you fall under their spell all of your dreams and boating needs will be efficiently attended to. WARNING! Great service, Great knowledge, Great integrity, Great people.
We have visited Atlantic Yacht Basin and the Virginia Yacht Brokers undercover show room nearly a dozen times while traveling from Florida to Connecticut for our summers. We enjoyed seeing all the boats and wondering how they all seemed clean and well maintained, we were to find out. When we finished last summer on board we decided to sell our boat and planned on using a local broker there in CT. Our good friends who are a professional yacht delivery team reminded us of Virginia Yacht Brokers and told us in their minds it was the best place on the coast to sell our boat. Following their recommendation we made the trip back down to Atlantic Yacht Basin and met with Chuck Grice and his team, Bob Starr, Parker Griffo and Chuck’s wife Kelsey. Together they explained their "proven" process for selling yachts. Their program involves deep cleaning, staging and effective photography of the boat. Their frequent checks on each boat with scheduled cleanings and reports to us on any issues discovered made us feel very comfortable to leave the boat in their hands and head for Florida, never expecting to see the her again. As winter approached James Taylor the Atlantic Yacht Basin "Yard Manager" provided quick and very reasonable services for winterizing and repairing various systems that all boats require. Chuck and Kelsey went out of their way to make sure our boat presented itself in the best possible way. There was no "Nickle and Dimeing" for various extras they provided, and when they thought something should be taken care of by us we were immediately consulted. Parker's weekly report on how many people viewed our boat on their web site and on YouTube made us feel comfortable our boat was not left out of the mix of boats for sale. Chuck was always available and seemed to always be at work, including late weekend evenings. Chuck made the selling process very easy, even when we may have not been so easy to negotiate with. Survey, Sea Trial and Closing were seamless with Chuck guiding us and the buyer through the process. We were very pleased with the sale of our boat and will probably be back to Virginia Yacht Brokers this spring looking for our next boat.
Virginia Yacht Brokers had the listing for what seemed like my dream boat. I’d found it on line and was naturally concerned that it was too good to be true. Also, while I have some boat experience, I didn’t want to be swindled by some slippery salesman, especially when I live over 600 miles away. I don’t have time, or money, to waste.
I called and spoke with Chuck. My first impression of him later proved correct. What a nice, genuine and accommodating gentleman. And he IS a gentleman. Apparently this is his reputation as surveyors I called in the area(and I called many) were pleased to hear his name as the selling agent. They don’t want to waste time with guys who sell junk.
As I tried to decide if this was the right boat for me, Check took the time, sometimes after hours, to answer my endless questions, provided guidance on the process and was instrumental in helping me locate quality independent surveyors for both Hull and Engine.
So I went to see the boat, and let me tell you: these guys sell NICE boats. Mine was exactly as listed, as pictured and as shown. As for Chuck, I was immediately put at ease upon meeting him. We sat, chatting about what i was looking for and about how he built Virginia Yacht Brokers as a family business. Kelsey and Parker, wife and son, were equally pleasant.
When it came time for the sea trial and survey, Chuck had everything handled for me, He even bought me and the surveyors Lunch!
Anyway, I bought it, and I thank Chuck for giving me the guidance and confidence to do so. The entire process was an absolute pleasure, so much so that I completed the entire process without a buyers agent. I would give Virginia Yacht Brokers the highest recommendation to anyone looking to buy or sell a boat.
Thank you so much for guiding us through the process of purchasing our Sabreline 43, Kinvara II.
It has been a pleasure working with you both as we navigated our way from our first visit to see the boat, negotiating the price, surveying, to finalizing the purchase. You both are very patient and helpful and fulfilled all our requests with joie de vivre.
Also noteworthy is the photography and staging: really set this boat apart from others that we viewed.
Looking forward to seeing you on our next visit to Virginia.
On our way to the Great Lakes from Florida, on our final cruise, in search of a broker, we met Chuck at AYB. We were so impressed with the under cover facility, the way the other boats were cared for and maintained. We decided to list our boat with him.
We want thank Chuck, Kelsey and Parker for the wonderful experience on the sale of our boat, New Venture, a 40’ Ocean Alexander.
They made our whole experience seem so easy. They are very professional and know just how to handle every aspect from start to finish.
Kelsey’s staging and video of our boat was so beautiful, the detailing was most impressive. Chuck was always there for us, he guided us through the whole process and answered all our questions along the way.
We were very happy with everything they accomplished and will recommend them to all our boating friends.
I have spent most of my adult life preparing/dreaming for the day I'd buy ‘My Boat’.
Not my first boat. I’ve owned many small boats. Primarily small fishing and sail boats.
The ‘My Boat’ will serve as a vessel allowing me to cruise, do the Great Loop and live aboard part time. As 2018 approached (my retirement year) I became serious. I focused on my wants, my needs, and of course my budget.
There are numerous considerations when choosing a boat of this type. My studies had narrowed my selection down to a boat which had range, would sleep four comfortably and was between 36 To 42 feet in length. This size also allows me to handle her solo.
Price and boat history also being very important.
After several visits to several marinas to see vessels, I realized I needed help from a professional. The decision in purchasing a vessel of this type is complicated. Purchasing a boat is expensive and time consuming. Over the last year I had spoken to several yacht brokers but never felt the connection I was looking for.
This spring I connected with Chuck Grice of Virginia Yacht Brokers. Bingo!
Not only did Chuck and his team have an excellent inventory of exceptionally clean yachts but their professional approach to assisting in me finding the right vessel proved priceless. Chuck’s easy going and accommodating personality makes purchasing a boat pleasurable in every way.
Virginia Yacht Brokers use a time proven formula in assisting one in selling or buying a yacht. Located in Chesapeake VA at the Atlantic Yacht Basin the Virginia Yacht Brokers provide a covered showroom in fresh water in which to view their inventory.
The Atlantic Yacht Basin boat yard is also a tremendous asset to any yacht owner. Any needs required are addressed timely with top notch work provided. Chuck and his team's relationship with the boat yard keeps clients need's addressed with satisfaction.
I have the utmost respect and complete satisfaction in doing business with Chuck and his entire team. Chuck, Bob Starr, Parker Griffo and Chuck’s wife Kelsey brought a new level of enjoyment to the purchasing of ‘My Boat’.
My wife Lynn and I recently sold our much-loved Monk 36 trawler using the services of Virginia Yacht Brokers located at Atlantic Yacht Basin in Chesapeake, Virginia. Virginia Yacht Brokers and Chuck Grice had been recommended to us by some neighbors who had contracted with them for the sale of their boat. We had a very positive experience from our initial conversation with Chuck Grice about listing the boat until the actual sale. Virginia Yacht Brokers prepped and staged the boat for sale. They prepared an excellent video of the boat that was available on U-tube and listings on the major selling sites. Suggested repairs and enhancements were pointed out. Atlantic Yacht Basin personnel were able to make the repairs and enhancements. During the listing period, we were given weekly updates on the status of the boat and what kind of activity the listing was getting. In our case, our Monk was getting a lot of activity. The end result was a relatively quick sale at a fair price with pleased sellers and buyers. We couldn’t ask for anything more!
Some people question why competent brokers are given 10% commissions. In our case, we believe Virginia Yacht Brokers earned every penny.
This is the second time that Virginia Yacht Brokers has sold a boat for us. We have a lot of trust and faith in them. Their internet presentation of our boats has been first class both times. Our broker had constant communication with us which was very much appreciated. Rest assured your boat will be spotless when people look at it at all times. They take care of it.
Chuck, Kelsey and their crew were really great to work with. We were first
time boat buyers and had met with nearly a dozen brokers to check out boats.
None were as easygoing and pleasant to work with as Chuck, and his boats were
all clean and squared away. Chuck and Kelsey took us through the whole
purchasing process step by step, from inspection and sea trial through closing
and documentation. If they didn't handle something, they referred us to
competent and professional people who did. We had a great experience with
Virginia Yacht Brokers and made some good friends along the way. We plan to
use the boat for many years to come, but our last cruise will be back to
Chesapeake and Virginia Yacht Brokers to use their services again.
It has been a wonderful experience working with you, your mom and Chuck. I can highly recommend you and your services to anyone wanting to buy or sell. Everything you and your team said you would do was performed to the highest expectations and I commend you for the dedication and attention to detail. Thanks again, I'm sure our paths will cross again.
Just a quick note to thank you for all of your very professional assistance in the purchase of our 42’ Sabre. As you know, we embarked on this purchase at a rather busy time in our lives and really did not have the time (or ability) to do the kind skilled “due diligence” on a boat purchase like this requires. You and Kelsey jumped in to fill the gap in a big way. You secured the best surveyors for propulsion and structure. You traveled to Florida to be at the surveys, asking all the right questions and providing good advice on all potential areas of concern. You even found a great Captain to bring the boat to Virginia (1,100 miles in just three days!) and then arranged for AYB to do a month of maintenance and upgrade work in just two weeks. Talk about going way above the call of duty! End result? We have fallen in love with our new “Rosinka”. I don’t know how you found the time to do all of the work on the Sabre AND get the Meridian prepped for sale. You and Kelsey remind me of that vintage financial services ad “We earn money the old-fashioned way”. With smart, hard work and a major dose of integrity. THANKS.
We were recommended to Chuck Grice and his team by friends who had sold two boats through them. The entire process was seamless from Chucks’ assessment of the items we needed to address and appraisal of the proper listing price, to Kelsey’s staging and photography and Parkers’ behind the scenes support. Their efforts were supported by Atlantic Yacht Basin who addressed the shortcomings and the cleaning team who kept our yacht squeaky clean throughout the process. When an offer came in Chuck managed the process impeccably, smoothing over the inevitable rough spots with true professionalism.
Parker Griffo at Virginia Yacht Brokers handled all aspects of my purchase of a Grand Banks trawler. From start to finish, Parker was helpful, responsive, communicative, and established excellent dialogue with the seller. He made my dream purchase a reality, and was very personable and professional. I highly recommend Parker whether you're buying or selling!
We recently purchased our second boat from Virginia Yacht Brokers and highly recommend Chuck and Kelsey Grice and Parker Griffo if you're looking for representation.
While I have been a boat owner for 30+ years, my recent purchase of a 37’ Nordic Tug was the first experience I have had with a yacht broker. The entire process far exceeded my expectations for professionalism and the notion of service - Chuck and Kelsey at Virginia Yacht Brokers are knowledgeable, very well connected in the marine services community, and extraordinarily helpful. They made what could have been a daunting challenge simple and straightforward, always with useful suggestions, a helping hand, and complete integrity.
I will use Chuck and Kelsey again in the future, and offer my highest recommendation to anyone considering selling or purchasing a yacht.
First of “I din’t trust brokers”! But Chuck and his team are by all mean different: I trust them. I enjoyed working with them. Everything has worked seemingly.
The facts: After meeting with them and few conversation over the phone, we were so confident, that we moved (last fall) the boat from Florida to Great Bridge in Atlantic Basin to make sure they will take care of our boat.
Based on our bad experience, with a big agency in Florida, when we bought this boat … we were skeptical about brokers!!! We had to deal with a seller broker and a buyers broker (representing us… we really didn’t need him!!!) So never again...
But with Chuck/Virginia Yacht Brokers we felt reassure, confident and most importantly I trust them when they say "this is the offer and you can take it” and let’s work together to make it happens. Wow!
Three important points to consider when buying or even selling:
1: Get many opinions/website/former sellers. Check not only the track record but how happy are the sellers and buyers.
2: Make sure that there is a “detail” service available for your boat. You don’t want to sell a dirty car, a dirty house so consider detailing your boat. “Put it on stage”
3: Yatch World is an incontournable. You don’t need to put add in news paper, magazine. Nowadays selling a boat need boat owners to go to a broker. They still have the web platform to reach ton of potential buyers and all brokers have access to that. However, only the best of the best can walk a potential buyer into your boat and create this moment of trust!
-On a personal note if you buy you can go to Chuck and trust him. He can represent you and the seller and provide honest opinion. This is what I call a “professional broker”
As a result six months later we are moving forward with a good taste about the selling and we are pleased to write this to futur buyers and sellers.
Do I have a regret? Yes; i wish I would have bought our boat with them.
Pam and I wanted to thank you for making our selling of "BLUES CHASER" a wonderful experience. Kelsey's staging and video of the boat was very professional and it contributed to the successful sale of "BLUES CHASER". We always felt confident that we had the best brokerage firm we could find. Chuck's honesty, integrity, and communications were of the highest caliber. As we went through the process we knew that if we had questions or we needed to be informed, Chuck was there to answer our questiones and keep us updated on a regular basis during the sales process. We would recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone who wants professional service with great results.
Thanks for your help selling our 56' Matthew. I enjoyed meeting the new owner and hope he enjoys her as much as Joyce and I have. Kudos to Kelsey for her excellent staging and meticulous housekeeping. I would highly recommend you and your team for anyone selling and/or buying a yacht.
It has been a personal and professional pleasure working with you and the staff at Virginia Yacht Brokers and AYB! Throughout the process leading to the sale of KATHLEEN my wife, Kathy, and I were always confident we had the pleasure of dealing with the best!
Muriel and I met Chuck Grice several years ago when he brokered our 35' Searay. We were impressed with Chuck's honesty, integrity and knowledge of the boating market. He made our selling of a boat a pleasant experience. The second experience with Chuck occurred when we purchased a 44' Viking. Again we experienced his excellent reputation based on Honesty, Ethics, Integrity and product knowledge.
Our most recent and third experience with Chuck just occurred when we reluctantly decided to sell our most enjoyable Viking 54' "Seas The Moment". We again encountered enthusiasm and professionalism throughout our experience including Kelsey Grice's compelling video, photography and the fact that they placed the ad on Monday and sold "Seas the Moment" on Tuesday. "UNHEARD OF" The entire transaction took less than a month.
Virginia Yacht Brokers-"Chuck and Kelsey Grice" should be your first and we think the only choice when selling or purchasing your next boat, it will certainly be ours.
I want to send a hearty 'thank you' to you and your team for a smooth sales process on our beloved boat, CATALINA. You guys are true professionals and I appreciate how you kept us up to date during the whole process. I was particularly impressed with you being able to bring the original buyers back to the table as I felt they truly deserve such a fine yacht. I trust you quys will be around in 4 years when Cathy and I look to purchase another, bigger boat!
Paula and I want to thank you all at Virginia Yacht Brokers for the very professional and effective way that you prepared and marketed our Defever 44, Stasia Louise.
We spent many years aboard her and had mixed feelings about selling, but your continuing communication made us comfortable that she was well cared for and shown.
Many thanks again.
Our search for a live-aboard vessel began on the internet. We quickly landed on a few choices offered by Chuck and Kelsey at Virginia Yacht Brokers. From day one, we knew we were in good hands. Chuck was right there offering assistance, answering questions and doing whatever research we needed to help us make the right decision.
We first noticed Virginia Yacht Brokers during our many trips up and down the Intercoastal Waterway ICW with our 1939 Trumpy Washingtonian. We would routinely stop at Atlantic Yacht Basin for a service visit, a gas stop or just a place to spend the night. AYB is a great place as it is one of the best yacht service centers and has indoor storage. Particularly for us we appreciate their railway haul out as our 62’ Trumpy appreciates a gentle lift. During these many visits, although typically dealing with AYB, we couldn’t help but notice the variety of boats under the Virginai Yacht Broker Banner within the enclosed fresh water sheds. It was surprising because they were always looking good, clean and bright and in great locations. Not typical of the usual boat broker yard. During our many visits, we finally met the owners of VYB, Chuck and Kelsey Grice and their son Parker Griffo and associate Bob Starr. Every conversation was one of professionalism, confidence and enthusiasm, and we weren’t even listing a boat.
To our dismay, my wife and I had to leave the midwest and eastern shore to take up new opportunities on the west coast in Northern California. Of course we thought about bringing the Washingtonian but a trip like that would take about 9 months and if shipped would be a very difficult one as well. We decided it would be best to sell her. We originally thought about convenience to us as we weren’t leaving for a couple of years and engaged brokers near the areas where we were chartering Washingtonian but had no real activity and decided to look for a broker that would sell her. We remembered Virginia Yacht Brokers and checked around and particularly talked to the folks at AYB and everyone overwhelmingly said VYB is in the business of selling boats not listing them, whereupon we contacted Chuck Grice and met with him and discussed their services and how he would sell Washingtonian which he saw was our pride and joy.
After our meetings and discussions, we listed with Chuck’s team. You must understand that a 75 year old wooden boat that is 62 feet long and is a floating history book is not everyone’s idea of a runablout. She needs an owner that loves her and there just a couple of those and the notion of selling a boat like this quickly is a folly. Chuck knew this and understood the idiosyncasies of such a sale and the time it would take (which actually was very quick) and the effort to maintain her beauty in order to sell her.
Chuck and Kelsey first had her detailed by their detail team which made her spotless. They then found a great place in the shed that would protect her from the weather and give her maximu visibility. Next, understand Washingtonian was a pristine well designed and fitted piece of art, they staged her to even improve her look. After that took place, they photographed her the way she would be viewed in the best light for a sale. Their photographs and ours created a great sales brochure. Typically after that it was a matter of getting the listing posted and VYB were excellent at that and also reported activity every week and even reported on the boat condition at least every 3 to 4 weeks as she was cleaned and spruced up. This was wonderful for us as we moved to the west coast over a year ago and as absentee owners we felt confident that Washingtonian was in good hands and well loved.
Washingtonain was just sold and we will miss her but we are confident in the understanding that Virginia Yacht Brokers and the team found her a new home and have transitioned the stewardship of a Grande Dame to a new owner and one that will take the care necessary to give her continued care and love. We know that while we were away, VYB’s and the folks at AYB provided that service to her on our behalf. Our many thanks to all of them!!!!
A 1939 Trumpy
Whenever we have called at Atlantic Yacht Basin with our 40' Eagle motor vessel, we would stop in at Virginia Yacht Brokers to see what was going on in the yacht market. We always found Chuck and Kelsey Grice to be very likable and very engaged with their work. We decided that, when we came to the point where we would want to sell our boat, they would be the ones that we would list her with. When this time came, we stopped in to their facility and met with them; we encountered enthusiasm and professionalism throughout our experience in the sale of our boat.
After listing our boat with them, we continued on our way to our winter berth in Florida and found that VA Yachts kept in touch with us frequently and set up appointments for us to show the boat on our way. Within less than a month from when we listed the boat with VA Yachts, we had a reasonable offer - and a week after that we had an agreement to sell her for the full listing price. From inception, through showing, survey, sea trials and on to a successful completion of the sale, VA Yachts upheld the highest standards of professionalism and friendliness.
We are sure that our experience with VA Yachts is not unusual; they doubtlessly afford the same dedication to all of their clients. We can heartily recommend them to anyone who is looking for the best broker to sell their used motor vessel.
I wanted to thank you and the team at Virginia Yacht Brokers for all your assistance with the purchase of our new boat and the sale of our previous boat The Good Life II. The professional and efficient manner that you, Kelsey and Parker handled this process was very much appreciated. We found all the communications and service during the buying and selling to be excellent. The attention to detail and all of your assistance in so many ways made the whole experience a pleasant one. I would recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone seeking help with either buying or selling their yacht.
We first met Chuck, Kelsey, and Parker in January when we made the decision to leave sailing and get a trawler. Like most boaters we started our research on line and came across Chuck's listings. We contacted him and after some discussions we drove down and looked at a couple of boats he had listed. Chuck, Kelsey and Parker answered all of our questions and made some suggestions to help in our selection process. We finally narrowed our search and were about to make an offer when in true Virginia Yacht Brokers style they once again broke the status quo at the speed of sold. Feeling a little down, we left the nest and continued our search. Fortunately for us Chuck became the listing broker on the make and model boat we wanted. We happily returned to the nest and had a truly enjoyable buying experience. During the process every phone, text, and voicemail was promptly answered. Chuck, Kelsey, and Parker went out of their way to handle all details, no matter how big or small. Even after the sale Chuck has kept in touch to make sure the boat is meeting our expectations. It is with a great deal of pride that I can say that Chuck, Kelsey, and Parker have become members of our boating family and Virginia Yacht Brokers should be your first and only choice when selling or purchasing your next boat.
I want to thank you so very much for the outstanding and professional manner in which you handled the listing, marketing and sale of our yacht.
We had been trying to sell KOALATY TIME III for a couple of years with other brokers in a difficult market. After being introduced to you through a trusted friend we found your location, marketing concepts and market knowledge to be outstanding.
Listing our boat with Virginia Yacht Brokers was the best decision we made in the selling process. You relieved us of any worries we may have had about taking care of the boat by your careful attention to its safe storage. You kept us informed at all stages of market interest, potential prospects and sales data. Your magnificent staging and presentation online was beyond anything we had previously experienced.
In short, you made a difficult process easy and ensured that our yacht was presented in a manner that made it stand out and we thank you for that.
Best and warmest regards and wishes for continued success.
When Chuck Grice says, "I will sell your boat," believe him!
Please forgive taking so long to send this to you, but the delay does not diminish my sincere appreciation of how you helped me in the purchase of TRAVELER. I truly believe you were as honest, open and helpful with me as you were with the seller. When the first surveyor gave a very poor and erroneous report, you offered to get another survey, haul out and sea trial on your dollar. WOWW!!! Also have to praise James Taylor at the yard [Atlantic Yacht Basin] for being so efficient, timely and nice to me. I will never forget all of you and understand why you have such a great reputation. If I can ever be of any help to you in this area, I would be proud to do so. Thank you again!!!
When buying a boat its relatively easy to comb the internet and find one, and sometimes many, vessels that seem to suit your needs - and then have your local Broker handle the deal. But if you are a Seller, it's much more important to do the research. There are a lot of Brokers out there, and in our case, many where we live in North Carolina. But we decided on Virginia Yacht Brokers, even though their location is a couple of boat days away from where we kept our boat. Besides wanting a Broker with an excellent sales record, we wanted our boat kept under cover and maintained ready to show. And we wanted a Broker associated with a yard that could handle any repair work needed to complete the sale. This Broker is attached to Atlantic Yacht Basin - a yard that has an excellent reputation and one that has done work for us in the past. We were not disappointed. Chuck and his team in Great Bridge did a terrific job staging the boat and finding the right Buyer. The negotiation process went smoothly and with very little effort on our part and we were satisfied with the final outcome. I would highly recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone contemplating the sale or purchase of a boat.
Dealing with Bob and Chuck was a pleasure from start to finish. From the first time we came to look at yachts to Bob waving us good bye as we launched the maiden voyage of Chance, our newly purchased Krogen Manatee, our experience was excellent and delightfully pleasant. When searching for a vessel, they allowed us free reign to look through boats at our leisure. Bob handled the negotiations over price in a forthright and even handed manner.
Once price was agreed, Bob gave us great recommendations for surveyors, mechanics and, ultimately, a captain to join us on our voyage. Everyone he recommended, and he always gave us more than one option, performed in a quality manner. Bob even kept us abreast of progress on repairs since we lived two states away. When we are next in the market to buy or sell a boat, Virginia Yacht Brokers will be our first call.
Want to thank you for a wonderful experience with the sale of "INSPIRATION"!
I had made the decision to have you handle the sale for several reasons, excellent reputation, reasonable storage rates, safe undercover storage and the ability to show and sea trial the boat anytime.
Your attention to detail regarding staging, cleaning, maintaining the boat and ability to have AYB get things done in a timely manner are all factors that create this sort of expertise.
Interesting how things happened!
I bring the boat to you from Mass. Oct 1st to sell and on Dec.15th the boat is sold, the money in the bank, and the buyer was from Wakefield RI!
The cost, including the trip to Virginia, was less than if I had stored the boat inside in Portsmouth RI.
The icing on the cake is I sold it for $15,000 more than I paid for it!
Having owned over 100 boats how can you beat that? I say job well done!
Our boating career has included a half dozen power boats over a period of 25+ years, and, as a result we've dealt with a number of boat brokers. We can honestly say that none of them provided the degree of service and professional effort that we experienced with Virginia Yacht Brokers. For our needs their location at Atlantic Yacht Basin in Chesapeake, VA, was a major plus because of the excellent maintenance and covered storage available there. The location is especially convenient for travel up and down intra-coastal waterway and provides good protection in a hurricane season. We do not hesitate to recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone and would certainly use them again ourselves if needed.
As founders and owners of PassageMaker Magazine, we had the opportunity to work with many of the best yacht brokers and agencies in the country over the years. So when it came time to sell our cruising boat, we chose Virginia Yacht Brokers because they have an excellent track record of selling boats!
Chuck Grice and his team are true professionals in the yacht brokerage business, and can handle all aspects of the buying/selling process in its entirety with accuracy, respect, and attention to detail. It was a pleasure to work with them from beginning to end.
Chuck is extremely knowledgeable and keeps tabs on the pulse of the market. As a result, his many years of experience come through with every question or raised concern, and he resolved or answered every detail with comfortable competence.
Kelsey Grice is a master at staging to show a yacht at its best, and her photography provided a compelling and spot-on tour of our boat for the listing. Both efforts were paramount to make that special connection between our boat and buyers looking for just such a yacht.
We are thrilled at the speed with which the folks at Virginia Yacht Brokers attracted qualified buyers and then followed through for the eventual sale. We also are especially pleased that it was enjoyable as well.
We highly recommend Chuck Grice and the team of Virginia Yacht Brokers. They are true authorities when it comes to cruising trawlers and motor yachts.
The team at Virginia Yacht Sales provided excellent selling services in there successful sale of our motor yacht. The staging of the vessel, maintenance of the vessel in "show condition" and aggressive sales efforts were all we could ask. As absentee sellers we especially appreciated the regular communications concerning market conditions, sales activity, and advice during the negotiations and final sales process. We highly recommend Bob Starr and the team at Virginia Yacht Sales.
RE: Grice Team
The best trawler on the market is debatable; the best boat broker is not. As a retired couple who has had many boats over the years, we have dealt with many brokers. Chuck and Kelsey are the total package: honorable, knowledgeable, and fun. There are highs and lows when buying or selling a boat, but the Grice Team stays the course - guiding you in the right direction while at the same time, truly listening to your wishes. It took us 3 years to find the right trawler. Chuck never grew weary with our e-mails, which he and Kelsey answer promptly. And, after closing the deal, they continue to answer our e-mails, helping us with everything from arranging overdue maintenance to providing design tips for the salon! Bottom line: Chuck is not about chasing the dollar. His motivation is to provide his customer with the best result. We will always choose the Grice Team.
Just a quick note here to express my appreciation for all your help during the negotiation, survey, and purchase of my American Tug 34. Because I pulled the trigger on moving ahead with the purchase late in the fall there was a certain urgency to complete the deal so I could get the boat up to my home port in Rock Hall, MD before the winter weather set in. Your personal, hands-on work to keep the ball moving down the field while negotiating with an owner who was on vacation in France and juggling engine and hull survey dates as time lines shifted were key to making things happen on time. Additionally, I have to compliment Virginia Yacht Brokers for the professional manner in which the financial and regulatory paperwork was handled. All in all, you and VYB made the experience seamless.
Chuck, I want to thank you and Kelsey for making the purchase or our 396 Carver a very smooth and professional transaction. You were always so prompt on getting back to us with any questions or concerns. We will be sure to pass on your information to anybody looking to buy or sell a boat. It was a pleasure dealing with you both and look forward to seeing you both again.
Kelsey and Chuck- Thank you so much for selling our 53 Hatteras MAD HATTERAS! Your professionalism really helped to show the boat at its best. The pictures you took were super, and you kept the boat spotless. You handled all the details from sea trials and the survey for us since we were 1,000 miles away in Florida. You guys are truly a one-stop business for selling a boat. You do it all, and we really appreciated all your help. You are quite a team!
If I ever have another boat to sell I would definitely use Chuck and Kelsey Grice of Virginia Yacht Brokers. I was recently widowed and had to sell the boat as soon as possible. Their understanding of my situation was wonderful and they did not waste a moment in getting the boat professionally cleaned and staged. One word describes this knowledgeable couple – PROFESSIONAL.
