Welcome to Sunshine Cruising Yachts

Sunshine Cruising Yachts LLC
Quality New and Used Yachts

Sunshine Cruising Yachts LLC strives to educate and empower both buyers and sellers of fine seagoing sailing and power yachts, combining integrity and passion in order to give our clients a memorable and positive experience.

At Sunshine Cruising Yachts LLC, we believe that a life on the water is attainable for everyone. The ocean is our future.
Who are we?
Sunshine Cruising Yachts LLC is a boutique yacht brokerage based in Florida. We are dedicated to assisting both buyers and sellers of quality oceangoing sailing and power yachts through a consultative approach. We are educators as well as boaters.

Our crew has a broad range of experience. Melanie Neale, our founder, lives aboard and cruises an Island Packet Yacht in Florida waters. She is a lifelong boater and a prominent figure in the marine industry, known for her books and magazine articles as well as her experience as a Florida Yacht Broker. She worked extensively in education and communications prior to entering yacht sales, and brings organizational skills, people management skills, and the ability to teach clients about the processes to the table.
We are based in Florida, but work with clients all over the world. The ocean is our limit! Whether you are a young family setting out with a dream to sail around the world, a retired couple who would like to cruise the Great Loop on a trawler, someone who just wants to learn about the boating lifestyle, a seasoned and salty sailor, or a weekend warrior, we have you covered.

Why Sunshine? Well, we’re based in the Sunshine State. Melanie’s middle name is Sunshine. But most importantly, we want to bring a little bit of sunshine into your life!

For buyers:
The first thing you’ll notice about us that we will listen to you. Our first interaction with you will either be a phone call or an in-person meeting, during which we will learn about your needs and boating goals and come up with a strategy to best assist you. We act as buyer’s brokers on a case-by-case basis. We are not here to help you “beat the system” or outsmart a seller or seller’s broker, but we ARE here to educate you about the process, do the legwork for you, and help to launch your dream. We will walk you through the process of choosing the boat, making an offer, orchestrating the marine survey and sea trial process, and closing. Our years of experience and consultative approach stand out in an industry where sometimes it seems like you’re surrounded by sharks! We know you have worked hard to realize your dreams, and we will work hard right alongside you. Your dreams are our mission.

For sellers:
The first thing you’ll notice about us is that we will get to know your boat. Every boat is different and there’s a match out there for each one. In a way, we are matchmakers. We will spend time with you going over all the features of your boat, talking about what drew you to her and how you have improved on her. We will take photos and videos that are more than just “glamor shots.” We’ll get down into the bilge and photograph your keel bolts (if you have them!). We’ll take photos of your engine. We’ll ask you for detailed equipment lists, and we will work with you on obtaining a pre-sale survey. We will determine, through comps and sold boat data, an appropriate listing price. We will advertise on YachtWorld and all associated MLS outlets, Sail and Powerboat Listings, social media, and through our carefully developed personal networks. Mainly, we will make what can be a painful and tedious process easy for you. All of our listings are available for co-brokerage.

Our Crew:

Melanie Sunshine Neale (Founder and Employing Broker) earned her US Coast Guard 100 Ton Master Captains’ License before she got her drivers’ license. She grew up living aboard her family’s 47’ GulfStar Sailmaster, cruising up and down the East Coast and through the Bahamas for nearly twenty years. Melanie captained and crewed on various boats while working her way through college, then bought and lived aboard her first sailboat, Short Story, a 1969 Columbia 28, while attending graduate school in North Miami. She’s owned many boats since then.

She is also an author (her books include memoirs Boat Girl and Boat Kid), contributor to Cruising World (her Short Story column ran in the magazine from 2006 to 2009) and BoatUS magazines, a freelance editor, and has worked over the years as everything from boat detailer to college professor to educational administrator. Her father, maritime author Tom Neale, instilled in her a love of sailing, writing, perusing boat listings, hard work, and repairing marine diesel engines. Melanie currently lives aboard and cruises the local waters of St. Augustine, FL, on a 35’ Island Packet with her daughter, Maryann, and a six-toed cat named Neemow. She is a solo sailor and full-time single parent.

As Employing Broker for Sunshine Cruising Yachts LLC, Melanie is dedicated to building a strong team that embodies integrity and passion for matching people with the right boats.

Halekai is a luxurious, semi-custom sailing yacht, designed by John G. Alden, Inc. and built in Portsmouth, RI to the rigorous standards of American Bureau of Shipping-A1 offshore certification. She's a proven world cruiser, having earned the rare honor of completing a circumnavigation. Alden Yachts is a renowned top of the line yacht builder since 1909, known for rugged construction, superior joinery, high quality equipment and speed. She was customized by her current (and only) owners for self-reliant world cruising and outfitted specifically for their ten year circumnavigation. They refer to her as the “ultimate cruising boat,” based on their  extensive blue water experience sailing aboard their two previous boats.

"Halekai" has been meticulously maintained and constantly upgraded to the highest standards. The dark green hull was awl-gripped and the diesel engine was rebuilt during a $50,000 refit in 2011/12. A complete electronic refit was done in 2019. The layout consists of a large chain locker/storage compartment with watertight door, forward guest stateroom with head/shower, main salon, nav station, walk-in workshop, walk-through galley, and aft master stateroom with head/shower.

Due to her partially enclosed center cockpit from which they can set and adjust the roller-furled sails, they "never needed foul weather gear in 120,000 miles of sailing.”

YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS BOAT! She's the perfect world cruiser for a couple or family, and she has the experience and pedigree to prove it. Her stunning lines and graceful curves speak to her performance at sea, and the modifications that her owners have made to her have made her a self-contained "island" where you can be fully self sufficient.

Basically, all the work has been done for you to make this boat the ideal world cruiser. All you have to do is provision and set sail.
