Join YachtWorld along with yacht reviewer Marilyn DeMartini and Josh Hendrix from Grande Yachts International in Palm Beach Gardens Florida for a full virtual walkthrough tour and sea trial of the 2021 Calypso 35 from Chris-Craft in the video below.
With exceptional weather protection, Chris-Craft bills the Calypso 35 as “the ultimate entertainer” and we can understand why. That claim holds up when you delve further into the key features and capabilities of the vessel. One of the newest models from Chris-Craft this compact pocket yacht clearly has the same fit and finish you would expect from a Chris-Craft.
“Can you really combine luxury and fishing in a 35 foot boat? Yes you can,” says Marilyn DeMartini as she takes in the design and layout of this luxury bowrider from the iconic boat builder.
“They’ve done an exceptional job of doing that,” chimes in Hendrix, as they walk through the performance specs and amenities Chris-Craft has managed to pack in onboard this boat.
Power And Performance
Outfiited with triple 300s the Calypso 35 gets up on plane in seconds at 22 MPH and tops out around 55 MPH. This boat is a pleasure to drive, speedy yet manageable and fully-equipped with modern controls that would be expected.
Aft Deck Features
With the versatility to fish the back, including rod holders and transom livewell, along with great accessibility via a side dive door and transom door with a swim platform that extends around either side of the engines, she is a capable fishing machine. Folding seats in the aft deck and an optional dining table convert this area to an entertainment zone.
A retractable Shure Shade awning covers the entire aft deck and full beam of the boat as well giving great shelter and shade when needed. The summer kitchen, which could also be used as a tackle station, features a grill, fresh water sink, storage and refrigeration. Flip up back rests and under seat storage extend the versatility.
At The Helm
The windshield is unique on the Calypso and features a retractable actuating flip-up, walkthrough window that leads to the bow. There’s also a sliding aft window rather than the traditional snap-up type.
Once at the controls, captains will appreciate a new dash with Chris-Craft command station and digital switching. Everything from trim tabs to lighting can be controlled digitally, with a great color wheel for setting the ambience. Of course there are redundant traditional push button controls as well. A wooden leather steering column and SkyHook joystick controls help captains hold position, plus there is an optional SeaKeeper too.
Inside The Cabin Interior
The cabin down below is surprisingly spacious with a sleeping berth, flatscreen tv and 24,000 BTU’s of air conditioning to keep it cool (this is an option). The A/X also pumps to the cockpit so the main area above can be sealed off on super hot, muggy days to make for an enjoyable driving experience. There is also a well-appointed wet head with sink and shower.
The bow is a fantastic area for hanging out with friends and features a new signature-woven carbonite color along with integrated premium JL stereo system and speakers. Lots of cup holders and under seat storage plus another table that can raise to make a large sunpad finish out the experience up front.
