2021 Midnight Express 43 Solstice: A Blazing Fast Center Console

Join YachtWorld and boat reviewer Marilyn DeMartini for a full in-depth walkthrough and quick video sea trial of a 2021 Midnight Express 43 Solstice boat in the video below.

Vessel Overview

If you’re in the market for a big, flashy, fast offshore center console boat this is a model you’ll definitely want to take a hard look at. One of Midnight Express Boats’ latest models, the 43 Solstice is a blazingly speedy and brawny center console yacht based on the popular 43 Open model, but with a lot of new features and a bigger console for more interior cabin space. A cruising entertainer as well as serious go-fast boat, she is also more than a capable fishing machine allowing anglers to get to any fishing grounds quickly and efficiently. The entire deck is new but built over the same respected hull designed John Cosker. Recessed wind doors, flush mounting cleats and a thoughtful layout means everything onboard is nice and flush so there is not much to catch your clothing on as you make your way around the vessel.

Bow Area

A luxurious, huge bow area has both forward facing loungers in front of the console and above the interior cabin below. There is no storage below these seats, to make room for the expanded console cabin underneath them. However there are ample in-deck fishing boxes and storage compartments under the front seats. In the tip of the bow is a concealed windlass and between the v-shape bow seats there is an electric rising table with soft deck flooring options, and creative fender storage with custom branded fenders round out some nice touches.

Console Cabin Interior

The relatively wide 12’6″ beam on this center console vessel gives the boat a nice wide cockpit allowing for wider walkways on either side of the console than other models in her class. This beam also allows for a luxurious console cabin that comes equipped with a galley with a sink and refrigerator, TV, v-berth for overnighting and even a full stand up wet head with a shower. This console cabin really makes the boat stand out in her class for accommodation and overnighting capabilities, plus makes for more comfortable days on the water with bigger groups aboard.

Sound System

Midnight Express is known for building fast, showy center consoles with loud sound systems and this model is no exception. A premium JL audio system that pumps throughout the boat includes six 12″ sub woofers providing serious sound and music enjoyment from every corner of the boat.

At The Helm

A wide, clean carbon fiber dash incorporates three big 22 inch Garmin screens provides for a luxurious and modern experience when piloting the boat. Everything is controlled by modern touchscreen controls. Around the helm is lumitech LED lighting and cupholders throughout. There is a stylish leather-covered steering wheel and triple-wide, double row seating plus a built in footrest and riser

Aft Deck

The aft deck has wide, 5-passenger transom seating and a great summer kitchen with customizable features including a  sink, insulated or refrigerated storage and counter space. A dive door with recessed dive ladder means the ladder doesn’t need to be stored and is easily deployed. The entire ear deck lifts up for access to the generator and a SeaKeeper 6..

At the business end of this big fast center console, she is rigged with quad 450R Mercury Racing engines mated to  Sportmaster Drives. This propulsion system on this hull should top out somewhere in the mid 80s, which of course is extremely fast. During our sea trials and tests we did not come close to that speed, but it was clear the vessel has tremendous power, and can easily hop on plane quickly, powering you and your crew to get wherever you need to go quickly and in style.
