2021 Aquila 70 Power Catamaran Walkthrough Boat Review

Join YachtWorld and Marilyn DeMartini for a full walkthrough video review of an Aquila 70 luxury power catamaran in the video below.

Vessel Overview

A large and powerful boat, the Aquila 70 is a luxury catamaran yacht that can top out at 27 knots (with optional engines) yet still cover long ranges at slower speeds. Her massive onboard living space is designed with a European flair throughout and features bright, inviting staterooms and social areas. Versatile interior layouts, along with rich wood finishes, soft fabrics, smart appliances, designer furnishings, incredible headroom and panoramic windows make for a luxurious experience onboard.

Stern, Aft Deck And Tender Storage

This magnificent luxury yacht was built with a lot of international design input and construction to create
a bridge between the owner operator and captain yacht. As you can see in the video above, there’s lots of room here for water sports aboard the unique beach club. Another interesting feature Aquila created here was to provide a ramp to drop down and board the 14-foot Aquila rib, so you have a really nice place to store your tender onboard. There is lots of storage for water sports toys and lots of room for lounging. Two large ladders extend both port and starboard that slide out and drop so it’s very stable and gives you easy access for diving snorkeling and all of your water sports needs.

The upper rear aft deck is a great place for socializing and dining with the covered top above and lots of storage as well. You’ve got access to crew quarter here and your water maker is beneath.

Bow Area

On the bow of the Aquila 70 is a beautiful sun lounge which you see gives you two rows of
seating and optional backrest here pop up. This forward deck space gives lots of room to just
lounge and enjoy the wind in your face. Another great feature here is the passthrough walkway that leads up from the bow to access the walk passageways leading to the main living area.

Flybridge And Upper Deck

Stepping upstairs onto the flybridge we find a nicely air-conditioned helm area and we can see that there’s not only great visibility from this station but a lot of technology incorporated here as well. Three Stidd captain’s chairs provide great seating at what is a beautifully-laid-out helm with three Garmin screens. Your c-zone controls and the Volvo joystick controls are nicely placed here.

Owner Operated Capability

A major key to the controls onboard this luxury yacht is the way in which Garmin and Volvo coordinated on the Aquila 70 controls very closely, to make a drive system that operates very smoothly. There are of course bow thrusters and the advanced rudder design was all tied together into a seamless control experience. It’s a big deal for Aquila to have built a boat of this size, with her length of 70 feet and beam of nearly 27 feet, that is able to be easily owner operated. The builder says she handles smooth as can be with the joystick.

The rest of the upper decks here on the flybridge area offers a beautiful entertaining space with Flexiteek G2 flooring throughout that is comfortable on your feet. Lounging space for passengers is ample with a big fold out dining table to boot. It’s easy to come in from the sun and keep your captain company near the upper control station, or bask in the rays off the back upper deck that has some exterior space to enjoy the outdoor atmosphere. In this space there is also a “patio” with a summer kitchen of sorts that features a grill and sink with refrigeration. A great place to sit out in the sun and cook your meals before your carry them to whatever part of the boat you’d like to visit next.

Main Salon

Descending down through the stairs to the main salon you’ll find beautiful decor done by Natuzzi Italia, one of the world’s best known furniture brands that designs sofas, chairs, tables, beds and more to create harmony throughout the entire luxury yacht. Of course you can choose your own decor but the model we were aboard was called the “Moby Dick” and featured a whale’s tail sculpture expertly crafted in neutral shades.

Main Salon And Living Area on Aquila 70 Power Catamaran

Above: The main salon and living area aboard the Aquila 70 Power Catamaran.

In the main salon you have various options to choose from, but the area is vast, with ample living space and room for socializing, plus of course, and massive, fully-equipped galley that rivals any home on land. There is a nice feature here in the motorized privacy screen that rises up so if you want to keep the the galley
separate from your entertainment area you can do that as well.

Forward of the galley on the starboard side is your main indoor helm control station. This is where the captain would operate the vessel in inclement weather as it is fully protected in the main living area, but still offers great visibility. Also to port you have a dedicated dining area (on the model we were aboard) and more storage and cabinetry. There are a lot of LED lights integrated into the ceiling and electric shades so you have privacy and shade when needed.

Staterooms And Accommodations

Down below you’ll find the same attention to detail and luxurious feel in the three beautifully appointed state rooms. The VIP is forward, as is the master suite. They both have beautiful en suite heads fully equipped with showers. It feels and looks just like a luxury hotel suite in here.

You’ll find the same thing in the third guest suite that is down on the aft side steps going
down to starboard. There’s also a washer and dryer here plus easy access to the engine room.

Propulsion System And Engines

The Aquila 70 luxury power catamaran yacht is powered by twin 1000-horsepower Volvo Penta D13 inboard marine engines. These engines feature new Monotherm steel pistons and strengthened internals giving them extended engine range, durability and longevity. This improvement in durability will see total cost of ownership drop for customers, and for boat builders, the entire engine family is now Type approved. Upgrades to the D13 engine reduce overhaul costs and lower total cost of ownership for customers – as well as extending the expected lifetime of the units. Changes include replacing the single stage turbocharger with a dual stage turbo, new injectors and a re-profiled camshaft – all improving engine performance. Added to this are new Monotherm steel pistons for added durability.

The Aquila 70 is a very smooth running and powerful boat that makes for an ideal cruising yacht for long-distance coastal trips, trips to the Bahamas, island hopping excursions and even offshore journeys and ocean crossings. Wherever you want to enjoy the water and all the amenities of home inside your live-aboard yacht,
the Aquila 70 is quite the luxurious modern catamaran.
