Matt Palmer was born into a boating family and took his first boating trip in Hawaii at 6 months of age. He's been boating ever since in everything from a wooden schooner to the latest high performance offshore boats. Michael Locatell CPYB founded Discovery Yachts 20 years ago to serve the Offshore & Coastal Cruising Community. Born in Oregon, Michael, spent two years in the US Army stationed in Karlsruhe Germany. After a 30 year career with the NCR Corp, starting as an NCR service apprentice, he retired as the Country Director of CSD, NCR do Brazil. Michael & and his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth, moved to Seattle WA from São Paulo Brazil after living in Portland Oregon and Eagle River Alaska.
As an officer and President of the Northwest Yachts Broker Association, Michael helped found the nationwide program for Certified Professional Yacht Brokers a few years ago as an effort to raise the level of professionalism in the North American Yacht Brokerage industry. Born and raised in Tacoma in an avid boating family, Steve Shull was running boats in South Sound on his own by age 9, brought a commercial fishing vessel down from SE Alaska at 17 with a college classmate. Neighbors and friends are part of Tacoma history in the commercial shipyard business and the pioneers of the mega-yacht business in the Northwest, Peterson Shipbuilding, later Cooks Marine Specialties, Les Jones of Jones Goodell and Norm Nordlund of Nordlund yachts.
Steve enjoyed a career of 32 years in executive positions with Weyerhaeuser in the financial arena and closely associated with International Marketing. Steve is a graduate of the U of W Graduate School of Business “Management Program” and also holds a Masters of Business Administration (Honors). Upon retirement he joined Fraser Yachts in Seattle in 1999, became a Certified Professional Yacht Broker in one of the first classes offered, and has successfully worked in large yacht brokerage and several other firms before joining the NW Yachtnet team. “Yacht brokerage allows me to bring together all of my skills from the Corporate ivory tower, international business and my deep knowledge of big yachts from the perspective of personal ownership, new construction, maintenance and refits, to chartering all over the world to support my clients.” Steve has chartered in Alaska for over 30 seasons, run 15+ seasons offshore for tuna, and 20 plus seasons on the Billfish and tournament scene in Hawaii. Steve and his beautiful wife Pamela of 48 years, have over 1000 days at sea, cruising most parts of the world, including a complete circumnavigation in 2013. He is an FAA licensed Commercial Pilot with Instrument, Land/Sea Ratings, Airline Dispatcher’s Rating, with aspirations for a Jet-type rating and a helicopter rating, also a Washington licensed Real Estate Broker specializing in Commercial Properties.

Olympia based-Washington yacht broker. Mike Japhet was born with a passion for boating. He grew up fishing, water skiing, and boating on Summit Lake in Olympia, and later founded the Summit Lake Ski Club. When Mike was not on the water he played tennis and racquetball at Tumwater Valley Athletic Club. After high school Mike worked building sea walls for Japhet Bulkheading Company where he enjoyed the hard work and furthered his draw to the water, working all over the Puget Sound. Mike earned his degree in Business Administration from Eastern Washington University and has spent most of his 28-year career in business & finance. His love for boating continued over the years as he migrated from a small ski boat to a larger SeaRay Sundancer and finally to his current boat, a Meridian 381, which he has had for the past 10 years. Mike and his family spend quality time each summer in the San Juan Islands and the Gulf Islands and locally every open weekend boating on Puget Sound. Mike says, “I have found my dream job. The ability to work around boats, meet new people, and build relationships is more than exciting." Mike recently joined Northwest Yachtnet opening a new office location in Olympia at Swantown Marina. When Mike is not at the office his favorite activity is spending quality time with his wife of 28 years, Rebecca, and their two sons, Tyler and Bryan. Dave Cheaney was raised here in the Northwest and has been boating from the time he was 10 years old. He has delivered boats up and down the West Coast (even Alaska) and has handled boats (power and sail) from 20' to 120'. He likes to fish and cruise the Pacific Northwest. Dave is currently a licensed Captain on 2 private yachts for the owners. He also hires out when someone needs a boat relocated or moved. Both boats that he operates now are a 84' Hatteras and the other is a 85' Horizon. Dave started off living and sailing on a 26' S-2 Sailboat. He also does executive protection for the owners when needed or wanted. He ran his own company for almost 13 years. Served in the Marine Corps for 6 years. And worked as a Police Officer both federal and city. But after leaving that industry He wanted to get into boating and make a living in the marine industry. Matt van den Heuvel was born and raised in Gig Harbor Washington and grew up boating/fishing/wakeboarding on the Puget Sound. Matt and his wife Bre are raising a family of 3 boys on Horsehead Bay in Gig Harbor after meeting in College at Western Washington University. Matt and Bre have created some of their best memories to date on boat trips with their Family. Matt began exploring the south sound on a 13 ft Aluminum boat with his brother at age 7 and has enjoyed running and operating many types, sizes, and styles of vessels. Matt currently Captains a 70' Ocean Alexander for his Family.
