Making dreams come true.
The Principality's population is comprised of Monegasque nationals (18%), French (40%) and many other nationalities. Most of these people literally live on top of each other in luxury high rise apartment blocks with dizzying views and equally towering rents. They usually speak to each other in French, but you'll also hear English and Italian.
For visitors from the outside world, Monaco symbolizes all that is dazzling, opulent and chic.
In this the world's tiniest state after the Vatican, there is such a dense concentration of wealth, prestige, glamour and romantic dreams that it's not surprising to see mere ordinary mortals stand for hours at the entrance to the Hotel de Paris, gaping in awe at the crystal chandeliers, the bronzed and bejewelled guests, fabulous Ferraris and Rolls.
Today, however, while continuing to attract international celebrities, Monaco has updated its act. Banks, financial institutions, high tech companies and 'clean' industries are added to more traditional activities, - including that of tax haven.
The plush hotels and restaurants accommodate tourists and business clientele who come to attend trade fairs, congresses and seminars or enjoy incentive trips laid on by big multinational companys. Monaco does, however, do its guests proud as per its long tradition as one of the world's most elegant playgrounds.
