Lucky, a solo racer, was designed for the owner by
Dick Newick in 1980. Original construction drawings are available and
remain with the vessel. Her hulls were built by Alain Guidon and
finished in Glen Arbor, Michigan. She was launched in Good Harbor Bay
on Lake Michigan in 1987. Her Gougeon Brothers designed wing mast,
windshield, deck hardware and systems where completed by VanDam
Woodcraft in Harbor Springs, Michigan. Her Launch took place in June
Lucky was born and raised on the Great Lakes
and is a one owner boat. She has been well maintained, and improved
upon over the years, and has a fine race record. In 2014 alone she was
1st in class in both the Chicago and Bayview Mackinac races. She
corrected 1st in class in the Bayview race and 2nd in the Chicago
race. She has won the Marty Reick Trophy three times and the Super Mac
and many other races over the years both crewed and solo.
She completed the ARC Caribbean 1500 in 2015, and has competed
in the Caribbean 600 twice, 4th multihull to finish in 2016 and 3rd in
2017 behind Phaedo and Maserati (Mod 70 trimarans). She winters in
English Harbor, Antigua.
Upgrades in 2013 included a new cockpit & aft beam.
Then over this past winter (2013-14) she was repowered with a new
Yanmar 30HP sail drive (425hrs), a new North 3DI mainsail and a 3DI
100% self-tacking jib, repainting with Awlgrip plus the application of
a new Hydro Turf soft deck.
