Welcome to Brooklin Boat Yard

Brooklin Boat Yard image Brooklin Boat Yard specializes in new construction of custom yachts (power & sail), restoration of classic yachts along with service, storage and sales of yachts of all types and sizes. Started in 1960 by famed yacht designer and boat builder Joel M. White the yard is still family run, owned and operated by Joel’s son Steve White.

Brooklin Boat Yard (Lat: 44/15/38, Lon: 68/34/36) is located along the shore of Center Harbor in the town of Brooklin, Maine. Center Harbor is in the heart of the best cruising grounds on the coast of Maine as it is situated along the northern shore of the Eggemoggin Reach connecting the Penobscot Bays (to the west) with Blue Hill Bay and Mount Desert Island (to the east). Easy to reach by water, the yard is (being at the bottom of a peninsula) not quite as easily reached by land but well worth the effort not only for the scenic drive but also for the opportunity to visit the yard and see the exceptional boats built, restored and maintained right here.

Brooklin Boat Yard is perhaps best known for its work with the design, construction, restoration & maintenance of wooden boats of both traditional plank-on frame construction and modern cold-molded, wood-epoxy composite construction. Working with wooden boats is a specialty of the yard but being a full service operation we are equipped and have the expertise to work with boats of all construction types be it wood, fiberglass, aluminum, steel or custom composites and regularly do so.

Brooklin Boat Yard offers the yacht owner a “one-stop shopping” destination for any project large or small. With an 80 Metric Ton Travel Lift and 20 Ton Hydraulic Travel Trailer we can haul, launch and move boats of considerable size. For new construction and major restoration projects our Main Shop can accommodate boats up to 120 feet and we have over 22,000 square feet of inside (heated & cold) space for seasonal or long term storage. In addition to our large Main Shop we have additional buildings and work spaces for designated purposes such as a complete machine and metal fabrications shop, a state of the art paint facility along with carpentry shop(s), electrical shop and rigging loft. Our crew members are highly skilled individuals representing all aspects of the marine trades who work together as a team committed to not only building the best boats in the world but also making sure they stay that way.

Many of the boats built and maintained by Brooklin Boat Yard were designed by the yard’s founder Joel White. After Joel’s death, the reins of the design office were taken over by Robert (Bob) Stephens who, along with partner Paul Waring, formed the independent firm of Stephens Waring Yacht Design. Today the design office is staffed by Keith Dibble, Eric Blake and Will Sturdy. Brooklin Boat Yard also regularly works with other yacht design firms. New boats built here at Brooklin Boat Yard have come from the drawing boards of some of the world’s leading yacht designers such as Sparkman & Stephens, Dieter Empacher, Alden Yacht Design, Stephens Waring Yacht Design Jim Taylor Yacht Designs and German Frers to name a few.

Brooklin Boat Yard has built over ninety boats since our start in 1960. Maybe yours will be next.

2016 US$ 9,900,000

The new W-100' modern classic sloop is currently in design for W-Class Yachts of Newport, Rhode Island. These designs are in the spirit of the W-37', W-46' and W-76' models already sailing, of which multiple copies have been built, but in particular the W-76', designed by Joel White.

This 100' model has been designed to compete in classic yacht regattas such as the Eggemoggin Reach, Les Voiles de Saint Barth, Antigua Classic, the Bucket Series and for occasional cruising. She is the minimum size yacht to qualify for these events.  The interior and deck layouts have been optimized for crew efficiency, comfort and accommodations.

Racing and cruising layouts available.  Please call or email us for specifications and plans.

The boats will be constructed of wood/epoxy at Front Street Shipyard of Belfast, Maine and in conjunction with both Rockport Marine and Brooklin Boat Yard.
