The 36' Marine Trader Trawler, “RELENTLESS,” is in excellent structural condition and well maintained having recently undergone a major restoration including installing a new engine and generator, all new electronics, all new AC and DC electrical systems, galley appliances, new plumbing system and renewing the joiner work as needed. Structural repairs were made to the deck and the interior as needed. A barrier coating was applied to the vessel’s bottom and new antifouling paint was applied. Hull sides and deck also were painted. All of her exterior brightwork was stripped and refinished. She is a must see for a Great Loop voyage or for anyone looking for a very high quality, double cabin, single diesel, Bow thruster yacht!. INTRODUCTION This report has been prepared applying the knowledge and experience of the surveyor, after a thorough visual examination and non-destructive testing of hull, rigging, machinery, equipment and other related items as mentioned in the report. Areas requiring tools for access have not been inspected, nor has any testing or inspecting, other than visual, been performed unless specifically stated. As much information as is considered practical has been included in this report, but no attempt to compile a complete inventory list has been made unless otherwise stated. This insurance survey report does not contain as much detail in the reporting as would a pre-purchase (condition and value) survey report. However it does contain ample detail to allow the underwriter to make a qualified determination as to the vessel insurability. This report is concerned with overall sea worthiness and general compliance with Federal and USCG regulation, in addition to compliance with selected guidelines set by ABYC, NFPA, and the minimum needed repairs and corrections for underwriting purposes as determined by the surveyor. It should be pointed out that underwriter requirements might vary from underwriter to underwriter and may change without notice. The "Repairs & Corrections" section is an organized list of repairs, corrections and modifications based on the findings indicated in the body of the report. The repair procedures or methods outlined are often only one of several suitable approaches to a cost effective and safe repair. The repair approach should be coordinated with the chosen repair facility and their abilities. The section "Repairs & Corrections" should never be used alone, but always in connection with the full report. This also includes the times when the report is used to obtain estimates. The fair market value in this report has been determined by the surveyor using available data taking into account geographic location and current market conditions. The surveyor may also have referred to various publications and to accumulated sources of data. In addition, depreciation scales may have been used. To help insure continuous seaworthiness and compliance with the latest Federal, USCG and underwriter requirements, it is recommended that the vessel be surveyed at least every third year, before any major voyage, after collision, stranding or damage. No vessel can be considered safe unless maintained and operated in a seaman-like manner. Due to a large number of factors, some beyond our control, vessels and their equipment do deteriorate. To prevent this deterioration from endangering the lives of the crew and other people and to preserve the investment in the vessel, maintenance and safety checks should be carried out on a regular schedule by the operator of the vessel. I. HULL EXTERIOR TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Fiberglass reinforced resins, hand laid up in a female mold. GENERAL IMPRESSION: Hull exterior exceptionally well maintained. CONDITION OF FINISH: Paint finish on hullsides well applied and showing high gloss; there was some minor vertical black streaks from runoff from deck around scupper drains; antifouling paint on bottom generally well applied, however, there were a few areas on bottom of keel where antifouling paint had not been applied; these were mainly in areas where the vessel was blocked; no indication of fiberglass blisters on the vessel’s bottom. INSPECTION OF HULLSIDES AND BOTTOM: No indication of voids or delaminations detected in the vessel’s bottom and no indication of structural damage observed on hullsides through visual inspection; using a Tramex Moisture Meter on Percentage One Scale, no elevated moisture was detected on hullsides; most readings on bottom were below detectable readings on meter with the exception of some elevated moisture readings from 60-80% on portions of keel; metal in keel can give false high moisture readings and, also, if water is in bilge, this can also give false high moisture readings. THRU-HULL FITTINGS: All in good condition. BALLAST: N/A PROPELLER AND SHAFT: Four bladed bronze propeller; approximately 20 inch diameter right hand rotation; well secured to 1 ½ inch stainless steel shaft through bronze strut; tracking of propeller generally good; one blade approximately c inch out on pitch; shaft appeared to be true; cutless bearing in good condition. BOW THRUSTER: Three bladed plastic propeller; good condition; bronze housing for bow thruster motor in good condition; fiberglass cutout for bow thruster appeared to be in good condition. RUDDER AND RELATED UNDERWATER FITTINGS: Metal rudder blade; good condition; stainless steel rudder stock in good condition where observed; heel fitting well secured and in good condition. BOARDING LADDER: None installed at time of inspection; teak swim platform well secured to transom. GALVANIC PROTECTION: Common zinc on transom and zinc on rudder new; no zinc installed on shaft. REMARKS: No repairs and corrections deemed necessary for insurance purposes.
II. DECK AND HOUSE TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION: Marine plywood with fiberglass sheathing. GENERAL IMPRESSION: Deck and house in good condition. CONDITION OF FINISH: Paint finish generally well applied and showing high gloss; finish was lightly dirty.

STRUCTURAL CONDITION: All structural members in good condition; using a Tramex Moisture Meter on Percentage One Scale, most moisture readings ranged from 0-20% indicating relatively low moisture content; there were a few areas showing high moisture readings on port house side directly below forward vent beginning at aft end of second port and extending down to deck covering an area approximately 18 inches by 24 inches; high moisture readings from 80-100% also detected on port house side in-line with forward end of aft vent at deck level extending up approximately 15 inches for a width of approximately six inches; high moisture readings were also detected on starboard flybridge deck aft of teak cap rail and radiating out approximately four inches from chainplate for middle shroud for mast; elevated moisture was also detected on starboard aft side deck inboard and slightly forward of second stanchion base from aft in area approximately four inches in diameter; there was approximately one inch of standing water on outboard aft corners of flybridge sole forward of flybridge seats; moisture readings could not be taken in those areas. HATCHES/COMPANIONWAY: All in good condition. RAILS/LIFELINES: Stainless steel railing with stainless steel stanchions on bow; teak railing with stainless steel stanchions on side decks and aft deck and stainless steel railing on flybridge; all generally well secured with the exception of screws missing on aft connection for port gate and set screw was missing for securing stanchion to rail in same area. DECK FITTINGS AND HARDWARE: Cleats and chocks all well secured; deck plates permanently labeled; good condition; a Lewmar Pro Fish windlass was positioned, however, was in the process of being install at time of inspection; raised fiberglass bulwarks with teak cap rails in good condition. REMARKS: No repairs and corrections deemed necessary for insurance purposes.
III. HULL INTERIOR GENERAL IMPRESSION: Hull interior exceptionally well maintained. CONDITION OF FINISH/UPHOLSTERY: Finish in excellent condition; upholstery was not aboard at time of inspection. STRUCTURAL CONDITION: All structural members in good condition where observed. PORTS: All appeared to be in good condition. HANDHOLDS: Well secured. INTERIOR STEPS: Generally well secured and in good condition; no nonskid material installed on steps. BILGE: Small amount of standing water in what appeared to be antifreeze in bilge in engine compartment; access was not gained to most other portions of bilge; access boards inboard of forward and aft head compartments could not be lifted; pulls were not secured. UNSECURED FURNITURE/EQUIPMENT: No major unsecured furniture or equipment. REMARKS: Refer to “Repairs and Corrections.”
IV. PLUMBING GENERAL IMPRESSION: Systems generally well installed and in compliance with current standards. VALVES AND THRU-HULL FITTINGS: All in good condition where observed; access was not gained to sink drains. PIPES AND HOSES: All in good condition where observed; hose connections to thru-hull fittings below waterline double clamped.

S TRAINERS: Reinforced plastic and bronze strainers installed for air conditioner, engine, and generator; all appeared to be in good condition. PUMPS: 12 volt electric fresh water pump; appeared well installed; two electric bilge pumps; well installed. TANKS: Four polyethylene fresh water tanks; well secured in lazarette locker; polyethylene holding tank installed under outboard side of bunk in aft stateroom; all tanks appeared to be in good condition. WATER HEATER: 120 volt/engine heat exchanger water heater installed in engine compartment; heat exchanger hoses to engine were not installed at time of inspection. HEAD (S): Two manual marine type heads with provision for pumping waste into holding tanks. CABIN HEATER: Reverse cycle heat pump on air conditioning. WATERMAKER: None REMARKS: Refer to “Repairs and Corrections.”
V. GALLEY STOVE STOVE TYPE: Kenyon two burner 120 volt electric stove. STOVE INSTALLATION: Generally well installed. TANK INSTALLATION: N/A GAUGES AND VALVES: N/A FUEL LINES: N/A FLAME PROTECTION: None appeared to be needed. STOVE OPERATING/LEAK DETECTION INSTRUCTIONS: Not required for electric stoves. REMARKS: No repairs and corrections deemed necessary for insurance purposes.
VI. MACHINERY MAIN ENGINE MAKE AND TYPE: New John Deere 6068 DM2 Diesel GENERAL INSTALLATION: Well installed. PROTECTION OF MACHINERY SPACE: Well protected. VENTILATION: Natural ventilation and blowers. CLEANLINESS: Engine room lightly dirty with some construction debris and a small amount of standing water and oily residue under engine. COOLING SYSTEM: Fresh water cooling with raw water heat exchanger; bronze ball valve for intake in good condition; hoses in good condition; header tank appeared to be in good condition; no overflow reservoir installed for fresh water coolant. EXHAUST SYSTEM: Solid and flexible exhaust with fiberglass muffler; hoses and pipes all in good condition where observed and well routed. LUBRICATION SYSTEM: Oil lines in good condition where observed; oil filter well installed and accessible for oil change.

IGNITION SYSTEM: Compression ignition; not tested. BELTS: Good condition; properly tensioned; no belt guard installed. AIR INTAKE: Good condition.
CHAFE PROTECTION: Potential for chafe exists on fuel line on aft starboard side of engine and on positive cable routed to alternator on aft starboard side of engine; all other hoses and wires generally well routed. STUFFING BOX AND COUPLING: Access not gained to inspected stuffing box; coupling well secured. FLUID LEVELS/CONDITION: Transmission fluid slightly low; fresh water coolant and engine drive oil correct levels. ENGINE CONTROLS: Shift and throttle control levers at upper and lower steering stations appeared to be in good working condition. ENGINE FUNCTION: Not tested. TRANSMISSION TYPE/FUNCTION: Twin disc transmission with straight shaft drive; not tested.
AUXILIARY ENGINE (S) (GENERATORS, ETC.): New NorPro 9 KW diesel generator. GENERAL INSTALLATION: Well installed forward of engine in engine compartment in sound shield. CLEANLINESS: Exceptionally clean. COOLING SYSTEM: Fresh water cooling with raw water heat exchanger; bronze ball valve for intake in good condition; raw water strainer installed; good condition; some rust staining observed in header tank in fresh water coolant; no overflow reservoir installed for fresh water coolant. EXHAUST SYSTEM: Solid and flexible exhaust with water lift muffler; hoses and pipes well routed; hose connections double clamped. LUBRICATION SYSTEM: Good condition where observed. BELTS: Appeared to be in good condition; access limited. VENTILATION: Natural ventilation and blower from engine compartment. CHAFE PROTECTION: Hoses and wires well routed where observed. FLUID LEVELS/CONDITION: Correct levels; engine drive oil was clean; fresh water coolant had some rust staining. FUNCTION: Not tested. REMARKS: Refer to “Repairs and Corrections”.
VII. FUEL TANKS AND SYSTEM FUEL TYPE: Diesel oil. TANKS: Two aluminum tanks; well secured outboard of engine in engine compartment. BONDING OF TANK AND FUEL FILL: Bonding wires connected.

CONNECTION EXITS: Installed on top of tanks; general good access to most of connections. FUEL SHUTOFF: No shutoff valves installed directly on fuel supplies on tanks; shutoff valves were installed on distribution panel on aft bulkhead in engine compartment; valves were not labeled. FILL AND VENT LINES: Flame retardant type lines; good condition where observed. FUEL LINES: Type AI, U. S. Coast Guard approved, flame retardant lines; good condition where observed.
FILTERS: Two Racor filters installed for engine and one Racor filter installed for generator; fuel was clean in inspection bowl for all filters. REMARKS: Refer to “Repairs and Corrections.”
VIII. ELECTRIC SYSTEM SHIP'S SYSTEM: 12 volt. BATTERY INSTALLATION: Two D4 lead acid batteries and one Group 24 maintenance free battery installed in plastic boxes with covers and well secured in engine compartment. OVER-CURRENT PROTECTION: No in-line fuse or circuit breaker installed in positive battery cables between batteries and vapor tight switches; over-current protection was installed in positive wires for battery charger for D4 batteries near batteries, however, no over-current protection observed in battery charger wires near Group 24 battery. VAPOR TIGHT MASTER SWITCH: Three switches installed in engine compartment on forward bulkhead. DISTRIBUTION PANEL: On/off positions labeled, however, functions were not labeled. WIRING: Generally well routed and supported; unterminated wire observed in lower outboard locker in aft head compartment; some unterminated positive wires on forward bulkhead in engine compartment and on alternator on engine; there were also some exposed position terminals on solenoid located in locker under sink in forward head compartment.
AC ELECTRIC SYSTEM SHORE SYSTEM: 30 amp, 125 volt. INLET/CABLE: Two shore power inlets installed on transom; good condition. NEUTRAL/GROUND: No continuity between neutral and ground; correct. POLARITY: Polarity indicator lights installed on switch panel. OVER-CURRENT PROTECTION: Master circuit breakers installed near shore power inlets in lazarette locker and on switch panel. GENERATOR: NorPro 9 KW diesel generator. OUTPUT/POLARITY: Not tested. DISTRIBUTION PANEL: Clearly marked with on/off positions and functions. WIRING: Well routed and supported where observed; 600 volt multi-strand boat cable used. CHARGER: ProTech 1240i; well installed. INVERTER: None observed, however, there was a Heart Interface panel mounted with switches for inverter/charger. OUTLETS/GFCI: All outlets well installed with protective covers installed over backs of outlets where accessible for inspection; GFCI protection installed.

GROUNDING OF EQUIPMENT CASES: Battery charger case was grounded. MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT: Four MarineAir air conditioning units, Summit refrigerator with freezer, and a icemaker. REMARKS: Refer to “Repairs and Corrections.”
IX. STEERING SYSTEM TYPE OF STEERING: Sea Star hydraulic steering via wheels at upper and lower steering stations. GENERAL INSTALLATION: System generally well installed, however, wheel not secured on hub at flybridge steering station; small amount of water in bilge near rudder post; stuffing box could not be inspected for leaks while vessel was on land. FUNCTION: System appeared to work well as tested on land. EMERGENCY STEERING SYSTEM: None; emergency tiller could be constructed. AUTOPILOT: Furuno Navnet pilot; appeared well installed. REMARKS: No repairs and corrections deemed necessary for insurance purposes.
X. ELECTRONICS INVENTORY RADIOS: Icom IC-M304 on flybridge and Uniden ES Uniform Mic 525 VHF in pilothouse. DEPTH FINDER: Interface forward looking sonar at upper and lower steering stations. KNOT METER: None observed. WIND INSTRUMENT: None installed. GPS: Furuno Navnet chart plotter at upper and lower steering stations. RADAR: Integral with Navnet chart plotter.
COMPASS: Integral with autopilots with controls at upper and lower steering stations. MISCELLANEOUS: Guest spotlight and windlass with controls at upper and lower steering stations. REMARKS: No repairs and corrections deemed necessary for insurance purposes.
XI. COMPLIANCE WITH CURRENT FEDERAL REGULATIONS

XV. GENERAL IMPRESSION The 36' Marine Trader Trawler, “RELENTLESS,” was in excellent structural condition and well maintained having recently undergone a major restoration including installing a new engine and generator, all new electronics, all new AC and DC electrical systems, galley appliances, new plumbing system and renewing the joinerwork as needed. Structural repairs were made to the deck and the interior as needed. A barrier coating was applied to the vessel’s bottom and new antifouling paint was applied. Hullsides and deck also were painted. After repairs and corrections have been attended to as outlined, “RELENTLESS” should be a suitable insurance risk for inshore and along shore use provided normal maintenance is performed and normal safety precautions are taken.

Install quarter turn shutoff valves directly on fuel supplies on tanks to meet ABYC guidelines. B. Label function of shutoff valves located on aft bulkhead in engine compartment. VIII. ELECTRIC SYSTEM A. Install in-line fuse or circuit breaker in positive wire for battery charger where routed to Group 24 battery located within seven inches of source of power. B. Install terminal protection on exposed positive terminals in engine compartment and in locker under sink in forward head compartment. C. Terminate unterminated wire located in lower outboard locker in aft head compartment. D. Label function of switches on DC panel. XI. COMPLIANCE WITH CURRENT FEDERAL REGULATIONS A. For minimum safety, add to the vessel’s inventory a horn, PFDs for each passenger, Type IV throwable PFD, a minimum of two Type B:C Size I fire extinguishers mounted and showing good charge, and distress flares.
