Oyster have produced some wonderful yachts in the mid forty-foot size range including the 435, original 46, and the 45/47. All have been hand built with the same care, attention and materials as their larger sisters, and offer the versatility of being superb ocean-cruising yachts, whilst also offering better access to some more restricted cruising areas and allowing more straightforward handling and maintenance.
As the first Rob Humphreys Oyster design in this size range, the 46 represented a move towards a more powerful hull shape, with longer waterline and broader sections aft. This improved form stability, seagoing comfort and sailing performance, giving a potential for 200-mile days when passage making, whilst her increased sail area helps to return enough sensitivity, even in lighter airs, to make her a real sailor's yacht.
This Oyster ‘G5’ or fifth-generation deck saloon yacht not only increased volume and light below decks, but also gives her a sleek and attractive profile above. Increased beam aft helps create a broader cockpit, and allows a large lazarette locker.
Good headroom throughout and a spacious three-cabin layout sleeps six in comfort, with an additional two sea berths possible in the saloon. The owner’s stateroom enjoys an en-suite head shower, while the forward double and twin cabins share an additional head/shower, which becomes the day head underway.
The 46 was an immediate success with twenty-nine launched between 2005 and 2012, when she was updated to become the Oyster 475.
Blue Pearl is a striking example, with dark -blue hull and maple joinery giving a light and modern feel below decks. Still in her second ownership, she has been sailed in the UK, but predominantly in the Mediterranean, where she has been a family holiday yacht. Simply rigged with electric push button furling to her mainsail and genoa, allowing sail handling from the cockpit, Blue Pearl is also equipped for much longer passages, with generator, water maker, freezer, davits and heating. It is also worth noting that Blue Pearl has the optional shaft drive in lieu of the standard saildrive.
Early inspection is encouraged.
