Owner's Comments:

The “Mazie C.”, a 2001 Mainship 34 Pilot Sedan styled with traditional Downeast lines, an America’s Cup Blue hull and gleaming white topsides has unquestionably proven herself to be the perfect Great Loop cruiser. She turns heads in every port, particularly when moored at anchor (easily done solo using the remote power windlass control at the helm or from the foredeck). The wide walkways on either side of the salon cabin, coupled with a high railing and grab rails make the trip to the bow a breeze. Since there’s no bright work to take care of topsides, a simple hosing at the end of the day is all that’s necessary to keep the Mazie C. looking “Ship Shape” (She has her own onboard wash down system). The amount of glass surrounding the sedan cabin is amazing and ensures unencumbered 360 degree visibility. Did I say the sedan is fully air-conditioned/heated as well as the main cabin so “Mother Nature’s” changing moods don’t translate into having to be uncomfortable. And who wouldn’t enjoy relaxing below surrounded by varnished teak, a teak & holly sole and leatherette seating while listening to music on the stereo system or watching TV. When underway, the reliable 350HP Yanmar turbo-diesel cruises comfortably all day at 10 Knots/1800 RPM while sipping fuel at 2+ MPG, but it’s also comforting to know there’s plenty of power in reserve when needed to outrun a weather front or shorten up the trip on open water (She tops out around 22 Knots). Even when there’s a contrary sea, the high freeboard forward and deep-vee entry help ensure a safe voyage. When negotiating tight spaces, the bow thruster makes any Captain a “Pro” . . . The Mazie C. can literally be spun around within her own length. Spending the night at anchor (My preferred choice) doesn’t mean anyone’s “Creature Comforts” need to be compromised. The onboard Westerbeake generator is more than adequate to power up any AC appliance and ensures the AGM batteries are always at maximum charge. Cruising “America’s Great Loop” is without a doubt, the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve met amazing people sharing a like vision who will be “fellow Loopers for life”, seen Bald Eagles, Dolphins and Manatees literally within my reach, and I found a “Trusted Friend” aboard my Mainship 34 Pilot Sedan cruiser which I’ve called “Home” for the past year. At this time there are probably 300-400 vessels navigating there way around the Loop. In my experience, none of them eclipse the “Mazie C.” when viewed from the perspective of being “Classical, Comfortable, and Economical”. I strongly encourage you to reach out and go for it . . . “You will never see new horizons until you’re willing to lose sight of the shore”. Capt’n Gene
