The Catalina 36 Mark II is easily handled by a couple, has a big comfortable cockpit, a spacious interior with two private cabins and the integrity to pursue cruising dreams. She has a seakindly moderate displacement hull, tracks surely and performs well in a variety of conditions. This is a fresh water boat that has been well cared for and maintained. The Catalina 36 MKII has a big comfortable cockpit, a spacious interior with two private sleeping cabins and a large head with shower. Fully electric Raritan Head with fresh water flushing. All cushions were replaced with Sunbrella upholstery fabric and new foam in 2014. The aft cabin mattress has a custom pillow top with fitted top and bottom sheets.
The galley is a functional 'U' shape, with composite countertops, the sinks are near centerline for proper drainage underway with an added acrylic backsplash. A large ice box is aft with Alder Barbor Cold Machine 12v refrigeration, a dry food locker is forward and a gimballed, stainless steel LPG stove with oven is in between. New microwave installed in 2017.
The main cabin is has a large dinette area to port that forms a double bunk with two seats and game table to starboard that can be made into a settee or berth with the cushions provided.
The entertainment center cabinet has a TV with mast mounted HD antenna. The navigation desk is aft in easy reach of the companionway and has a custom teak chart rack. The companionway has teak doors and a custom storage rack.
The main cabin and all interior teak has the warmth and durability only obtained with multiple coats of varnish. The boat has 16,000 BTU main Mermaid Air and Heat and a 14,000 BTU Mermaid cool only in the forward cabin.
The 36 has stainless steel hand rails and anodized spars, reducing maintenance on deck and extending the sailing season. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems have been engineered to increase dependability and accessibility. Engine access is excellent, with the one-piece, insulated enclosure removed. The hull is rugged, hand-laminated, solid fiberglass; the keel is lead with integrally cast stainless steel bolts. The mast is stepped through the deck on the keel and has inline spreaders and fore and aft lower shrouds, a sturdy arrangement that is easy to tune.
