Galt Won, a Musser 48’, was built by Nordic Tug for Jim Musser in 1990. Jim Musser started Bluewater Yachts in Woodinville, WA which was later purchased by Jerry Husted who started Nordic Tug. Musser worked with naval architect Lynn Senour to create his perfect, personal boat, the Musser 48. The current owner is the 3rd owner and has put an incredible amount of resources into the boat that have kept her looking her best and her systems modern and up to date. She’s powered by a Perkins 6-354T 130HP Diesel Engine with a 2:5:1 gearbox and a Velvet Drive Transmission. The engine is hooked up to a Flo Scan Data Log Fuel Monitoring System with recently calibrated sensors to accurately read the engine burn-rate (4.5nm/Gallon). The tanks were recently scrubbed and the owner installed 6 Seabuilt tank access ports. The fuel runs through a 1000 series Racor Dual Filter System with vacuum gauge prior to reaching the engine. A Xantrex 3000 Inverter and Battery Charger keeps the 8 GSM batteries strong with an 8D starter battery. The Xantrex Digital Control Panel is located in the Salon. Galt Won is Keel-Cooled with Hydraulic Steering and a 32” 4-Blade Bronze Propeller. There is also power generated for the boat off the Yanmar diesel engine with a 300 amp alternator located in the engine room.
On the bow there is a Vetus Electric Windlass (with a remote) for hauling a 110lb Plow anchor and 300’ of 3/8” BBB chain rode. A 12V Salt Water Deck Wash system has been installed to wash down the anchor, chain and decks. There are also 3 spare anchors (Rock Hook, Plow and Danforth). Also on deck are commercial grade aluminum hatches and a scuttle hatch forward to access the forward cabin. The forward mast head is new. The deck, house and bulwarks were just painted, and all varnished areas were freshly coated and are looking beautiful. All varnished areas have well-made canvas covers to protect the wood. On the cabin house roof are 4 Halogen spotlights (2 fwd and 2 aft), a 15" Phoenix Searchlight, Halogen Spreader Lights, as well as the mast for all the Electronics in the Wheelhouse including: a Garmin GPSMap 4212 Chart Plotter, Garmin HD Radar (48 mile), Garmin GHC Auto-Pilot with 2 remotes, Garmin GPS, 2 Garmin VHF’s and 2 Garmin Handheld GHS RAM mic’s with AIS, Garmin Depth Sounder, Interphase Forward Looking Sonar, a Cell Phone and Wifi Booster, and a Side-Power Bow Thruster to give you all the control you need to feel comfortable at the helm while docking. There is also a Ship’s Horn that’s powered by an air compressor and operated by a large handle next to the helm in the Wheelhouse.
The entire aft deck area can be closed with drop down canvas and vinyl window covers. There is room for a table and chairs, fishing poles, oars, crab pots etc. There is a Hot Outdoor Shower on the aft deck that has a full shower curtain for privacy. There are two new Oak doors that close the aft deck area off from the rest of the boat forward, on both sides, providing a weather proof area on rainy or foul weather days.
Down the ladder from the Wheelhouse takes you into the spacious and well laid out Salon. There’s lots of storage and comfortable seating on a large settee, smaller settee and at the main table which has radiant heating under the wood bench seat. The Salon also hosts a large Flat Screen T.V. and DVD Player. Below the DVD station is a Karibe Combo Washer and Dryer to keep your clothes and gear clean and warm while you’re underway. Under the floor boards down below are 3 electric bilge pumps, 1 in each of the three zones between bulkheads and a manual bilge pump as well. The Galley has 2 Refrigerators (one 12V and one 110V) and 1 Deep Freezer (110V), and a diesel Dickinson Pacific stove with a Coleman Skillet Range on top. There is pressure hot and cold water at the sink, a Magic Chef Microwave and lots of storage. Forward from the Galley is the Forward Cabin with two wide single berths that access the top deck via a ladder through the scuttle hatch. Going aft from the Salon takes you through a door into the Engine Room which is well laid out and provides excellent access the the main engine. There is also a small workspace for projects as well as lots of storage. The Engine Room is well organized with systems well laid out and accessible. Going aft from the Engine Room takes you up a couple of steps past a small wood stove to the Master Cabin and Head with a shower and a new Electric Toilet. The Master Cabin is roomy with a large double berth and a large closet space with shelves and a clothes hanging area. The Master Cabin can access the deck directly through a companionway hatch up a small ladder.
Galt Won also comes with a red Steadying Sail, a white Foresail, a 17’ Rowboat, and a 9’ Livingston Dinghy with a 2HP Evinrude Outboard.
Galt Won has been incredibly well maintained and equipped by the current owner who is not able to spend time on the boat anymore. She appears to be in near-perfect, turn-key condition for just about any voyage someone would want to take her on. Her hull design would provide for a comfortable ride locally, up to Alaska or beyond. The boat has been well thought out, well equipped, well maintained and is a joy to operate.
