SHEARWATER 39 

Shearwater 39’ designed by Dudley Dix and launched in 1998.

LOA: 11.88mBeam: 3.9m Draft: 1.8m

This Shearwater 39 is in a good condition and presents as the true-blue water cruiser that Dudley wanted her to be.  She was refitted in 2020 with new standing, new teak decks in mid-2014 with ongoing maintenance resulting in a functional boat with excellent cruising potential. Built in Cape Town by Gerfried Nebe and launched in 1989, the Shearwater 39 has a proven track record for ocean crossing and is an extremely comfortable boat at sea.

History of owners:

1st sold her after a couple of years due to ill health

2nd sailed her from Simons Town a few times

3rd owner and brought her back up to spec and sailed locally in False Bay only

4th and current owner has sailed the boat to Durban, competed in the Vasco da Gama Race and sailed locally offshore Durban

Sails:

New Mainsail in 2020 with new Harken Battcar System. New Roller Furler Genoa in 2020 and new Roller Furler Unit. Staysail is on a completely refurbished Roller Furler. The New Main is complimented with a new 2020 supplied Stackpack. Asymmetrical Spinnaker in a sock making shorthanded sailing a breeze. The sail wardrobe is completed with a 2nd spare Genoa, a Trisail and a Storm Jib.

Engine:

Volvo 2033 Turbo 40HP with fixed 3 blade prop. Engine hours +/- 550 hrs. The engine was removed from the boat in mid-2018 and completely rebuilt. Re bore, New pistons rings and bearings. It has been run for about 10 hours since the being refitted

Fuel Tank: 1 S/S tank with 200 litre capacity

1 Engine Start Battery

Electrics:

2 House Batteries – new in 2011 and an alternator on Engine for the house bank

Battery Management System: Mastervolt 12/1500 Inverter / Charger; Solar Panel and Wind Generator

Shore Power connection and cable

Water Tank: 1 x 200 litres S/S tank

There is an additional 200 litre Stainless Steel tank that can be either used for fuel or water. This tank has never been used

Deck Equipment:

Lewmar Self Tailing Winches with 3 winch handles, 2 Electric winches

Electric Anchor Windlass with Rode counter and remote – serviced in 2011

She is well appointed below decks with clean and uncluttered spaces. The Saloon easily accommodates 6 people around the foldable saloon table. Accommodation consists of a V-berth forward cabin which sleeps two, an aft cabin on the starboard side which also sleeps two and a single berth cabin aft on the port side which is currently been used as a storage locker, but essentially is a single berth cabin. The Shearwater 39 has one bathroom with one electric toilet (new in 2011), basin and shower with hot and cold mixer.

Galley fitted with 45 Litre Fridge/Freezer, oven with twin burners, microwave double stainless-steel sink with hot and cold mixer tap with ample locker space. 

Safety:

Yacht is fully safety certified complying with SAS Cat A with Liferaft and Epirb

8 Lifejackets, 4 Safety Harnesses, 2 Man Overboard Liferings, Man Overboard Danbouy, 3 Fire extinguishers, Radar Reflector, Code Flags C&N, Boat Hook, Wooden Bungs, Torch, Bosun’s chair, First Aid Kit

Additional:

Cockpit Bimini, Spray dodger, new skylight and liferaft storage  covers, boarding ladder, Sampson Post, stainless steel bollards, engine spares and set of manuals for equipment onboard.

Mast and Rigging:

Bellamy aluminium double spreader rig with 5 mast steps. The rig was serviced in 2020 with some new running rigging and all standing rigging replaced new in 2020. Alloy boom and spinnaker pole. Genoa Profurl roller furling unit with new seals and bearings in 2020 and new Profurl unit for the Staysail in 2020. Harken Batt Car System
