As you step aboard Gaia, things just seem different. It might be the warmth of the teak decking under your bare feet in her palatial cockpit, or the jauntiness of her bowsprit as you look forward to survey her lines. Take a wander forward onto her bowsprit, turnaround and look back. You will realize this is one of the best seats in the house just to take it all in when you are underway, especially if you have been joined by a dolphin or two on your journey.
Gaia is a well-loved and cared for Whitby-Brewer 42. She is a 42' center cockpit staysail ketch, built in Canada in 1987, one of the last two Whitby-Brewers built in Whitby Ontario. With a moderate draft, she is the perfect boat whether you crave deep-water offshore passages, island hopping in the Bahamas, cruising the intracoastal, or enjoying cocktails with friends at the marina. In fact, with Gaia's ample space, storage, and appointments, she would make an ideal floating home.
Gaia is truly one of a kind. Please call or email for additional information or to schedule an appointment to see her for yourself.

It is equipped with a toilet, wash basin with pressure hot and cold water, shower, locker, towel racks, a mirror, and ample storage. A Vetus solar powered vent fan is installed overhead. The shower drains into its own sump tank, and the toilet is plumbed to both the central holding tank and overboard discharge through a Y valve.

A long couch is on the starboard side with shelves, drawers, entertainment center, storage lockers, and a hanging locker. In the forward starboard corner of the salon is a diesel-fired fireplace. The salon also has a large opening hatch (Bomar) with tinted plexiglass midships as well as a smaller one over the galley. The cabin sole is teak with holly inlay and runs from the forward cabin straight through the aft cabin. Hatches in the cabin sole provide easy and excellent access to equipment below. The interior joinery is satin varnished mahogany and teak. The storage throughout the vessel is exceptional. The navigation station has a large chart table with a chart drawer and space for radios and electronics on the starboard side of the salon. The headroom throughout the cabin is 6'6".

Hull and Deck
The one-piece fiberglass hull is built with integral stiffening members of compatible fiberglass. The deck, deckhouse, and cockpit are fiberglass molded in a single section. Teak decking was used in the cockpit seating area. Deck trim, toe rails, and hand rails along the cabin top are varnished teak. Hatches are of the opening Bomar type and have translucent and tinted Plexiglass tops to provide additional lighting below decks. Four 5" stainless ventilation cowls are mounted on Dorades located three forward and one on the aft deck.
The center cockpit has cushions and is fully enclosed with white canvas and roll-up Isinglass side curtains. Located at the center cockpit steering station is a steering pedestal with a large stainless steel wheel, throttle and transmission controls, navigation pods, autopilot controls, engine instruments, a remote VHF station, and a large Ritchie compass. Deck equipment includes polished stainless steel bow and stern pulpits; polished stainless steel stanchions, and white plastic-coated lifelines with port, starboard, and aft boarding gates; running lights and appropriate cleats and chocks. A folding swim ladder is provided that can be attached port or starboard. The bowsprit includes dual anchor rollers and a bobstay. The vessel is further equipped with tri-color light, masthead strobe, and deck lights on the spreaders. A well-crafted fiberglass hardtop is installed over the cockpit that has integrated LED cockpit lighting, rod holders, aluminum frame, and integrated ladder-type stanchions aft. The hardtop can be used for sun bathing or deck storage if desired. The cockpit has large amounts of locker storage and is appointed with teak seating.
The dinghy davits are heavily built and designed to carry a dinghy with outboard attached if required. The dinghy is a 10' Apex with a 15 HP Honda outboard motor. A large lazarette is provided on the aft deck along with a dedicated LPG locker. The teak rub rail has a stainless steel cap.
The door to the large engine room area is just aft of the nav. station in the passage to the master cabin. The engine can be easily accessed on all sides. The engine room is large and brightly lit and has a significant volume of space. The main electrical panel is directly across from the engine room door in the passage aft of the nav. station, and has book storage and a work bench surface adjacent. This area houses the main engine, dual Racor fuel filters, forward house battery, start battery, inverter/converter, refrigeration compressor, port fuel tank, autopilot pump, auxiliary bilge pump, and more.
