Alden 44 MKII specifications and equipment:
The Alden 44 MKII is a very successful and good-looking boat from the Alden Yacht Design office. Built by Tillotson Pearson, the boats are well known for their ocean going capacity and comfort while at sea.
The hull and deck are vacuum bagged fiberglass with balsa coring. CHECKMATE had the teak side decks removed and redone with non-skid (approximately 2016 by Essex Boat Works).
CHECKMATE has an enviable race record having competed in scores of local and regional racing, as well as numerous offshore events such as the Newport to Bermuda Race, and the Marion to Bermuda Race.
CHECKMATE features a forward owner’s cabin in the form of a wide side berth to starboard, with built in settee to port for getting dressed, reading or just relaxing. There is ample storage below the berth and in lockers. There is a pull-out desk for use as an office when desired. A hanging locker is aft to port in the cabin.
The head is next aft and to starboard. There is lots of space to shower. The flooring is a teak grate with sump pump.
Following aft into the saloon, there is a large settee to port, which can pull out to form a bed comfortable for two people to sleep on. There is storage behind and above.
In the center of the saloon is a folding table for comfortable dining.
To starboard is comfortable seating with storage behind and above.
The galley is aft and to starboard. It is a real cook’s galley with a gimbled stove/oven. Plenty of cold storage in the approximately 6 cu ft refrigerator and 4 cu ft freezer. There is ample storage for dry goods and dishes.
Opposite the galley is the navigation station. It features proper nav table with excellent storage. There is a compass mounted on the forward bulkhead of the nav desk, and above is a computer screen mounted off to the side so as to not dominate the space (screen can rotate to allow viewing of movies or other things from the salon). Outboard is communications and navigation components.
Aft to port is a quarter berth suitable for sleeping two people. Very wide and open feeling.
All of the upholstery is a dark blue cloth that is in wonderful condition and adds to the richness to the already impressive joinery work.
Overall the there is a great feeling of luxury and openness in the interior. Plenty of natural light and excellent ventilation. Nearly 6’4” headroom makes this a very inviting space.
