As a 1982 model, this Gulfstar 44 sloop is a high quality yacht. The designer, R.C. “Dick” Lazzara, drafted this yacht to be pleasing to the eye both above and below the waterline, but also built it to be very strong with a solid fiberglass hull, reinforced longitudinal stringers and transverse floors, balsa core composite deck, molded keel cavity with lead ballast, and a skeg hung rudder. The result of this hull design allows for a very good turn of speed with an easy sea motion especially in heavy offshore conditions. With in-mast roller furling and roller furling genoa, this Gulfstar 44 center cockpit can be easily handled . Some of other features include: a fully enclosed cockpit bimini; stern mounted arch; solar panels; dinghy davits; RIB dinghy; outboard motor hoist; 9.8 hp Tohatsu outboard; bow thruster; electric windlass; and custom interior cushions and window curtains. Her layout below, is basically traditional but very functional and comfortable. She has a highly crafted varnished teak interior with a forward stateroom and head, spacious salon, forward facing navigation station, U-shaped galley, and master aft stateroom with ensuite head and shower stall. Storage is abundant, and there are eleven (11) opening ports, four (4) opening hatches, screens, and dorade vents for excellent ventilation and ambient lighting.
This stable, high quality yacht with comfort and good performance would be an excellent choice for those interested in serious offshore passage, or just a live-a-board.
