Overview
Honey Bee is a very good example of the popular Moody 27. This boat was the predecessor of the Moody 28 and was brought about by the design of Bill Dixon and the build quality of Moody Yachts. Well built and sea kindly this yacht offers stability and comfort for those wishing to downsize or those wishing to dip their toe in boat ownership for the first time.
Large safe cockpit with good locker storage, easy access side decks allowing safe access arond the decks and large capacity anchor locker. Heavy layup hull with shoal draft fin keel giving a ballast ratio of over 44% give her a robust feel. Hull is finished in white gel coat with contrasting dark navy band giving the yacht a sleek look.
Below decks is warm and welcoming thanks to the wood finish to the floor and bulkheads. Fabrics have been upgraded to a lovely cream colour in 2017. Vessel can sleep 4 with ease and has a good sized galley featuring gas fuelled Flavel oven with 2-burner hob and grill, top loading ice box for perishables and sink with manual fresh water. Boat kept warm and dry thanks to Eberspacher cabin heating. The 5th berth is currently used as a storage area but can quite easily be changed back.
Deck stepped aluminium spars with boom mounted mainsail with new sail cover. Roller furling headsail and spinnaker with pole. All canvas work including sprayhood upgraded in 2015.
Construction
This Moody 27 was designed by Bill Dixon and built by Marine Projects of Plymouth in 1982.
The hull and coachroof are constructed in GRP and finished in white gel coat. Cockpit and walkways finished in grey non slip..
Shoal draft fin keel with transom hung rudder with tiller steering. Under water areas antifouled in October 2018.
Engine & Electrics
Vessel powered by a raw water cooled Volvo MD7B. This 18hp inboard diesel engine has been regularly maintained with a service annually at the end of the season. Most recent service at the end of 2017 saw new oils in engine and gearbox, oil and fuel filters and alternator belt. MS2 reduction gearbox with 'P' bracket supported, shaft driven fixed 2 bladed propeller.
Sails & Rigging
Proctor Deck stepped alloy spars including conventional spinnaker pole. Boom mounted slab reefing mainsail and roller furling system for head sail. Coach roof mounted halyard winch, cockpit mounted genoa sheet winches and mast mounted halyard winch.
Stainless steel standing rigging and terylene running rigging all in good order. Lewmar genoa and halyard winches.Slab reefing main. Furling genoa. Spinnaker
Accommodations
Below decks is warm and inviting. Nice combination of wood and fabrics. Fabric and foam replaced in the saloon in 2017 including curtains. The vessel can sleep 4 with ease. The large single berth adjacent to the galley is currently used as a storage area. This can be easily changed back if required.
Double V berth in forward cabin with infill. This was replaced with memory foam mattress in 2017.
Two single berths using saloon bench seating.
Saloon table with seating for six either side.
Separate heads compartment fitted with a marine toilet, hand basin and storage area. New Jabsco pump assembly for the toilet in 2017.
The galley is situated on the starboard side and is equipped with a Flavel Vanessa, gas-fuelled oven with two burner hob and grill.
Also equipped with good storage, a stainless steel sink and cool box.
Boat kept warm and dry by Eberspacher cabin heating. Solar powered fan fitted to washboard in 2016. This aids ventilation when boat not in use.
