Launched in 1979, this Bill Shaw-designed Pearson 32 still shines among the club racers and coastal cruisers. Its draw is that it more than meets the needs of a cruising couple without sacrificing performance.
A 5½-foot draft qualifies the P32 as a shoal water-capable cruiser that’s just right for coastal cruising and exploring the estuaries along the East Coast. But with this 32-footer, the shoal draft stats also come with an efficient foil shape and external lead ballast, providing enough lift and lateral plane to enhance sailing ability both on and off the wind. Add to the mix a respectable sail area-displacement ratio of 17, and it’s clear that this Pearson is more than an oversized pocket cruiser. Envisioned originally as both a club racer and a family cruiser, the boat lives up to both expectations. For those who prefer spending time sailing when they go cruising, it’s a boat worth a very close look, especially with current prices of similar boats!!!
The Pearson 32’ ‘SEA DAWG” is a rugged and roomy mini cruiser. The P32 maintains one of the best resale values in the market today. ‘SEA DAWG” is well equipped and most importantly, very attractively priced.
Step aboard this 32-footer and there's no "bobbly" small-boat sensation. At 9,400 pounds she sits solid in the water. Her big-boat feel and heavyweight status come from the way she's built. Her keel & performance, may set her apart from the crowd, but rugged construction is another Pearsons hallmarks., and it all started here." ~ Practical Sailor.
This Pearson 32’, provides the benefits of spirited, powerful performance, with added advantages of "hand-off" tacking and fingertip steering control, and superior sea-keeping and safety. And the moderate draft full keel gives the full capability for blue water passages as well as exploring shallow coastal waters.
On deck, the Pearson 32’s conventional cabin profile and adequate side decks results in an aft cockpit protected by sizable coamings and a deep self-draining cockpit well. The sloop’s user-friendly deck layout comes with an Edson wheel and a mainsheet traveler set at the forward end of the companionway hatch, just aft of a short bridge deck.
With full length teak cabin top hand rails, and bow and stern rails and aluminum slotted toe rails, “SEA DAWG” insures secure deck work. The roomy cockpit features contoured seats with deep coaming backrests, and wheel steering for precise feel and utmost reliability.
The four-step stainless tube and teak companionway ladder leads below to a cabin with 6 feet of head room, which seems large for a 32-footer. Immediately to port is the nav-station and to starboard is the galley. This small but utilitarian galley is usable at anchor and underway, another good test of a functional sailboat.
Forward of the partial bulkhead that separates the galley and nav-station from the rest of the main saloon are two settee berths and a drop leaf table that folds up against the main bulkhead. The two settees are good sea berths and allow for comfortable meal time seating.
The forepeak V-berth and head make up the accommodations forward of the mast. The sloop’s relatively wide beam (10 feet, 7 inches) contributes to the spacious feel in the main cabin.

The Pearson 32 was intentionally designed as a 60/40 cruiser-racer, a boat that was easy to sail solo, luxurious for a couple, and quite user-friendly for a young family on a two-week summer cruise. It had some wood trim, but the extruded alloy toe rail, fiberglass coamings, and nonskid Gelcoat decks were an effort to lessen maintenance through the use of more durable trim and finishes.
A Classic pocket cruiser/club racer with much more elbow room than you would expect. She will take you just about anywhere you would want to go in comfort and safety and with surprising performance. The 32’ has a nice-sized head with hot/cold pressure water, a complete galley, and a fold-up table that is not crowding the saloon when not needed. Her cockpit is huge with room to sail, entertain or snooze. And, Pearson’s hold their value so well. She is equipped and ready to provide a great getaway to your favorite Gunkhole or down the ICW to Paradise or to win your club's sailboat races and she’s absolutely FUN TO SAIL.
“SEA DAWG” sleeps up to 5 people in accommodations with the forward cabin, port pull-out settee, and starboard single settee. Teak joinery throughout. There are full-length overhead teak grabrails overhead for safety.
As you enter the salon from the center entrance cockpit companionway, down a 4-step stainless tube and teak companionway ladder you will find to starboard, a is the galley, that is large enough to prepare complete crew meals that is larger than generally found in a small yacht. To port of the companionway, is the forward facing navigation station, the perfect location for contact and access to the cockpit and crew. There is good engine access behind the easily removed companionway ladder.
For a 32’ racer/pocket yacht, “SEADAWG features a rather spacious salon, with port and starboard full length settees, a starboard side, fold up drop leaf, bulkhead mounted teak table leaving an unobstructed sole almost 4’ wide. The table leaf can open as a single table for portside dining guests, or can be opened up to a double table for guests both to port and starboard. Both port and starboard are long enough for a comfortable sea-berth and they have teak trimmed storage areas outboard and above.
Next forward to starboard is the good sized head with toilet, ensuite shower, S.S. sink, storage locker & foul weather hanging area outboard, opening port & teak fiddles on the countertop. There is a v- berth forward with incredible storage beneath in specially designed removable bins. There is an overhead hatch for excellent ventilation and access to the chain locker at the most forward.
The L-shaped galley features a large icebox with a shelf, two-burner flush-mounted cooktop with removable cutting board top, deep stainless steel sink, and abundant storage space above and below the counters.
