Construction
The hull is mahogany planked with some newer cedar planking on 1” x 1” oak frames on 11” centers. Eight ribs were sistered in 2011 and some planks replaced. Toe and rub rail were replaced in 2001.
The decks are strip cedar over oak. The hull was refastened in 1997 with silicon bronze fastenings. In 2001 the king plank, sections of the deck, oak plank underdeck supports for the traveler, and cockpit coaming were replaced and the deck seams raked and fared.
The keel is constructed of oak and had a worm shoe fitted in recent years.
The coachroof and house sides are painted marine plywood and mahogany and were
installed in 2001.
Ballast: Lead ingot ballast is laid loose in the bilge areas.
Centerboard: The fiberglass encapsulated centerboard was new in the late 1980’s. The entire centerboard trunk was professionally rebuilt in 2011.
The rudder was replaced in 1994.

Owner's comments: The engine is older than the boat (1958) but well maintained. Runs like a sewing machine.
Before we owned the boat the cabin and cockpit were redesigned and rebuilt, sister ribs were installed, and a new mast in 1973-74. We have owned her since 1985. We have done a fair amount of maintenance, restoration, etc.
Basically, if it was a structural or safety problem, we had it done. The new centerboard, rudder, garboard work, and mast repair were done by Jeff Gray of Snug Harboar Boatworks, Duxbury, MA. Warren Stanton of Long Point Marine did the remainder of the woodwork except for the boom crutch which I made. Dick Buell of Long Point Marine has done the engine work. I made the sail at Wooden Boat School with a traditional vertical cut. I also made a custom sail cover.
Recent Work
Late 1980's: New fiberglass centerboard, new garboards
1990's: Underwater hull refastened (1997), new rudder (1994) , cracked mast scarfed and strengthened with bronze bands, boom repair, new gaff, new hatch over steering gear
2001: Major work with new cabin, king plank, one bulkhead, portholes, coaming. Somedeck boards replaced, new toe and rub rail, new gaff jaws, new rubber gudgeon on rudder, new steering gear support. Oak plank underdeck supports for traveler. A few angle brackets installed from port side ribs to centerboard trunk. (Our boat restorer will check to see if we need some on the starboard side this year.) New bilge pump with outflow redirected to side rather than centerboard trunk. New electrical panel. New canvas tarp.
2003: 2 new seacocks for scuppers, new shaft and reconditioned water pump, repair and refashioned rudder planks.
2004: Mast step refashioned, new mahogany boom crutch, one section of bowplanking replaced, one on the other side refastened. Replaced two sections of coverboard on deck. Most of worm shoe replaced (Another small section done in 2006), newblocks for mainsheet. Reamed and recaulked seam between cabin house and deck.
2010: Long Point Marine (leak in centerboard trunk, boat swamped):
1. New alternator, starter switch, gauges and wiring for all.
2. Starter motor rebuilt by specialist in antique engines.

2011: Warren Stanton:
1. Strengthen keel with epoxy. (Made of locust, which had lost some of it's soft layers)
2. Install new centerboard logs.
3. Install new centerboard cheek blocks.
Jack Pitney:

2. Sister 8 frames.
3. Replace floor joists along centerboard trunk.
4. Replace garboard along centerboard trunk.
5. Replace 3 other bottom planks
6. New worm shoe.
7. Replace a few planks, cross members in bulkhead near centerboard.
8. Replace cockpit sole planks near centerboard.
9. Ream and caulk all seams of bottom, deck and cockpit sole.
10. New louvered cabin doors.
11. New seacock on head intake.
12. Ream and recaulk old splits in boom and gaff.
2012: Long Point Marine:
1. New hoses for head and scuppers. And bilge pump hose, if needed.
2. Rewire all running lights.
Also: New handles on wheel made by woodworker.
