Built in New Zealand in 1954. Carvel wooden construction of hardwood (probably Kauri or Matai), external lead ballast with bronze keel bolts (last drawn in 2009), Internal trimming ballast of 750kg securely fastened in the bilge, swept teak laid decks on marine ply, recent decks beams, sheathed plywood coachroof coamings with bronze portholes, sheathed plywood coachroof deck finished in non slip deck paint, self draining aft cockpit with tiller steering, opening cockpit lockers and lockers to aft deck.
Built in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1954 to a Colin Archer type design.

SAILS and RIG:
Roller reefing mainsail with blue mainsail cover (2019). Genoa roller reefing system to forestay. Furling Yankee, spare furling jib, large reaching furling genoa. Staysail (hank on with boom). Wooden mast and boom, keel stepped white painted wooden mast. Stainless steel standing rigging all new in 2009. Bronze rigging screws to external bronze chain plates.
Lombardini LDW702 twin cylinder 20hp inboard diesel engine installed new in 2009. Shaft drive to 3 blade fixed bronze propeller. Twin fuel tanks.
Alternator charging to 2 x 12v batteries (both new 2020).
Shore power connection.
Varnished bowsprit, bronze stanchions to side decks with stainless steel guard wires, varnished hardwood hand rails, bronze midships cleats, bronze dorade vents to deck, 2 opening sky lights to main and forward cabins, tiller steering, 2 x self tailing sheet winches, halyard winch to mast, new running rigging 2020, Seago inflatable dinghy, 25lb CQR main anchor with chain, Maxwell 1000 electric anchor windlass with foot controls to deck, mooring warps and fenders.
Plastimo bulkhead compass, Northstar Explorer windspeed and direction, Ray 49E DSC VHF radio, Raymarine A57D chart plotter, brass barometer, tri-colour masthead navigation lights, steaming light, anchor light.
2 x electric bilge pumps, horseshoe lifebuoy, 2 fire extinguishers, first blanket, first aid kt, manual bilge pump.
2 x oil lamps to bulkheads. Her galley has a Techimpex gas cooker with 2 burners and oven, separate gas locker to lazerette, water supply to sink with bronze taps, electric water pump. Lavac marine toilet and wash basin to separate heads compartment with bronze seacocks. Blue, aquamarine and grey fabric upholstery (all renewed in 2019). Varnished lockers and doors, wooden lifting sole boards giving access to bilge and keel bolts.
4 berths including 2 quarter berths to saloon and a double vee berth to her forward cabin.
"Garnet" has just been launched following a full cosmetic refit during 2019/20. She was purchased by her present owner in 2019, her owner runs a specialist wooden boat restoration company based on the Thames. She was transported by road there in 2019 and has been re-painted, varnished and thoroughly serviced, her halyards have been renewed, a new dinghy purchased and new berth cushions fitted.
"Garnet" was built in New Zealand of the finest materials, in 2009 she had a complete refit including new decks, new rigging and new interior. She was then cruised to the UK and has paid VAT. She really is a striking boat with some exquisite fittings and detailing, currently lying afloat with a planned trip to Tollesbury shortly.
