Dirigo II is a classic, seagoing Alden Schooner and wonderful family yacht. The boat is in excellent condition, and currently based in Puerto Escondido, an hours flight from Los Angeles. Dirigo II sailed south from the San Juan Islands in the fall of 2017 for her second voyage to the Sea of Cortez. The winter was spent sailing with family and friends and today the boat is ready for viewing, inspection and sea trail. There are two flights daily from Los Angeles to Puerto Escondido.

This handsome and proven gaff-rigged topsail schooner was designed by John Alden and built in 1939 at the Goudy and Stevens Boatyard in East Boothbay, Maine. Dirigo II was specifically designed  for circumnavigation and to be capable sailing in “any ocean, any weather”. Throughout her life, she has participated in many sailing adventures, races and pleasure cruises around the world, including 2 global circumnavigations. The boat is featured in a novel, “Count the Cats in Zanzibar” by Captain Jim Crawford. Dirigo II has recently undergone a complete restoration and is operated with loving care by her owner. The boat is for charter in the San Juan Islands and throughout the Salish Sea.

In addition to captain and crew quarters, she has two private staterooms with “over and under” berths and two pullman berths in the main salon. The owners cabin is aft with port and starboard berths and ample storage in bureaus and closets. The salon comfortably sleeps 4 with curtained bunks for privacy. With her well appointed galley, hot water shower, spacious cockpit, wide decks and high bulwarks, she is an elegant traditional sailor with exceptional comfort throughout.

“A stable ship, sea-kindly, fast and a joy to be aboard.”
