OWNER OPEN TO OFFERS A beautifully maintained example of the classic wooden Loch Long racing yacht class, 'Puffin' was built in 1937 by Colquhoun at their yard on the Clyde, and is in excellent condition. She is hull number 13.
The design was commissioned by members of Loch Long Sailing Club to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and to replace their existing sailing craft with a low cost design which was capable of safe use in the local conditions found on Loch Long and the Firth of Clyde.
The lines of the Swedish Stjärnbåt were adapted by James Croll to add a counter stern, alter construction from clinker to carvel and allow a permanent backstay to be fitted.
The purity of the class has been maintained by keeping it "one design" and few changes have been permitted since they were first built.
More than 70 are thought still to exist. 'Puffin' is hull number 13.
She comes with a new road trailer and a 2hp Honda auxiliary outboard, and is ready to go. She is a must see for anyone aspiring to be the owner of a classic yacht.
The hull is pine on oak frames, the mast is spruce. The deck is pine planking. The cuddy and coamings were rebuilt in teak by the previous owner. The coverboards at the edge of the deck were replaced in iroko two years ago.
Puffin will soon move to her mooring at Porthmadog for the season.
