ACCOMMODATIONS:
Boarding the yacht is amidships at port and starboard bulwark gates to
covered side decks. To forward the waist high bulwarks curve across
in front of the pilothouse to form a Portuguese Bridge with a hinged door
to the foredeck. Moving aft, the side decks open to an aft deck at
the canoe shaped stern. The aft deck may be enclosed with canvass
and isinglass covers for added protected living space. Above the
salon deckhouse is the boat deck with the yacht's tenders, tender davits,
ship's antenna mast, and the engine dry stack exhaust.
Accessed from the aft
deck, or the port and starboard doors at the pilothouse, is the main deck
salon. The salon is a large cabin that opens to the adjoining galley
forward. This cabin is fitted with large heavy gauge windows (facing
to port, starboard, and aft), a white fabric overhead with inset lighting,
and nicely finished teak walls, trim, and cabinetry. Furnished for
comfortable lounging and dining, the salon features a built-in window sill
counter, cabinets, lockers, and drawers. Access to the lower deck
spaces are from stairways at the salon.
Forward and open to the
salon is a U-shaped galley to port that has been recently remodeled with
new wood flooring, paint, and all new appliances. The galley
features a top-loading cruising freezer, ample cabinets and drawers, and a
large U-shaped counter for food preparation and buffet style serving.
Forward of the galley is
a large pilothouse that features port and starboard doors to the
Portuguese Bridge, a convertible settee / watch berth, table, chart
drawers, a Todd helm chair, completely duplicated navigation electronics,
an isolated back-up battery for the navigation electronics, complete
engine controls and alarms, and full helm controls.
Below decks at the bow
is a forward stateroom with upper and lower berths. This cabin may
be accessed from the Portuguese Bridge deck area forward of the pilothouse
or from a watertight door located at the master stateroom. The
Master stateroom is accessed from a stairway located in the main salon.
Located amidships and forward of the engine room, the full beam master
stateroom has been divided into two cabins by the current owner to
accommodate charter clients. The two amidships cabins thus created
are equally proportioned to port and starboard. Each are fitted with
upper and lower single berths, and the lower berths have drawers built-in
underneath. These cabins also feature small cupboard style cabinets,
hanging lockers, built-in countertops (that could be fitted with vanity
sinks), and louvered entry doors. These two cabins share the large
'master stateroom' head, which has a shower and ample storage
compartments. (Note: So the original full beam configuration of the
master stateroom may be readily restored, the 1/2" painted plywood
dividing wall is fashioned for easy removal).
Aft of the reconfigured
master stateroom is a full-beam engine room. Aft of the engine room
is another double berth stateroom that is currently in use as crews
quarters and has a watertight door for accessing the engine room.
This cabin features over and under berths, storage cabinets, a full head
with stall shower, and is accessed via a stairway in the main salon.

AGENT REMARKS:
Constructed of steel and custom built to high standards as a Long Range
Trawler for a very knowledgeable cruising couple, this Ben Ostlund design
was featured in Captain Robert Beebe's first (1973) edition of 'Voyaging
Under Power'. The yacht features a Raised Pilothouse, Portuguese
Bridge, dedicated upper boat deck with davits and tenders, a refurbished
interior, four staterooms with eight berths, three heads with enclosed
showers, a full beam engine room with watertight bulkheads and doors, a
large galley that adjoins a comfortable salon, and covered aft deck that
can be enclosed with canvass and isinglass adding to the extensive living
spaces. The yacht is extremely economical to run and is replete with
operating systems that are simple to operate.
A 2005 Audiogauge
inspection of the steel hull and a complete Marine Survey conducted in May
of 2008 both report that the yacht is structurally and mechanically sound,
in very good overall condition for long-range voyaging, and is suitably
setup for six passenger charter service. Also in May of 2008, the
bottom was stripped to bare metal and received two coats of epoxy barrier
coat paint, a strip of fiberglass cloth imbedded at the waterline for
abrasion resistance, and antifouling paint. Since then, the hull
above the waterline has been completely re-faired and painted, the decking
refurbished, and as noted in the accommodations section of the yacht
specifications display, the master stateroom has been reconfigured into
two separate cabins to accommodate charter parties (may easily be
converted to the original configuration as a full beam master stateroom),
and the yacht's 12 volt electrical systems have been upgraded.
Indeed this yacht has had a thorough and recent going over, and is ready
to go cruising now.
Note: The yacht is
outfitted for expedition fishing-eco charters and is successfully operated
as a six-pack charter business in the waters surrounding Juneau, Alaska.
With full bookings in place for the 2009 Alaska charter season, this yacht
is positioned to produce significant income. For additional
compensation equitable to the seller, the yacht's charter business may be
transferred to the buyer as part of the yacht sale. Alternatively,
the charter bookings may be moved off to another vessel to make this yacht
free for cruising in Alaska this Spring and Summer.
Considering that this
particular yacht has received notable recognition as a very well designed
passagemaking trawler, is custom built to high standards, has had good
care and has received significant and recent upgrades, and has an
extensively proven cruising ability, the 'Whale Song' presents a rare
opportunity, and an excellent value. As such, we recommend
scheduling your showing appointment at the soonest convenience.
