Featured Boat 37' J. Hinks & Son Lundy Motor Sailer 1967 £39,950 Tregella is a very fine example of a late-1960's style gentleman's motor-sailer yacht. Built in Appledore, North Devon in 1967 at the yard of J. Hinks & Son (perhaps most famous for the replica Golden Hinde, completed soon after), she displays the quality of which is now, sadly, a bygone era. From the board of the much-respected Walter F. Rayner, best known for the Atlantic and Pacific ketches. Mahogany-planked on close-spaced oak frames, the hull is very fair (most likely splined, TBC) with fine deep-blue topsides. The underwater area of the hull is also smooth and fair, ensuring she remains easily-driven. Inside she retains the traditional charms of the era, with mahogany slatted 'ceilings' in the cabins (rather than full linings), making the hull structure visible and allowing everything to breathe as it should in a timber hull. She is a handsome craft, but at her size her fine lines do not mean reduced interior space and the saloon in particular is pleasantly large with very good all-round visibility. Power is provided by a fresh-looking Perkins 6-354, naturally aspirated, giving around 100hp. The engine has only logged 1000 hours and no expense has been spared on maintenance. Tregella also has the distinct advantage of being fitted with a 6KW diesel generator in the lazarette, allowing such luxuries as a microwave (fitted), hair dryer (don't underestimate!), hot water when at anchor or the possibility to fit air-conditioning for warmer climes. Although predominantly a motor-boat, her ketch-rig with modern roller-furling headsail also gives good stability, fuel saving and the opportunity to make passage under sail alone when conditions are right. Tregella is a much-loved boat in the same ownership for many years, and is a well-known sight around Crinan and the Clyde cruising area. All will attest that she is never seen looking anything less than her best, and she is a credit to the owner's dedication over the years. The time has now come when she must go though, so all interested parties are invited to make contact. Currently (November 2012) afloat in Crinan harbour, she is available for any inspection or demonstration, and can be brought ashore easily for survey. Expected to be in the shed at Crinan Boatyard later in the winter. Price now further reduced making her highly competitive compared with other wooden motor-sailers on the market.
