What Our Clients Say
As founders and owners of PassageMaker Magazine, we had the opportunity to work with many of the best yacht brokers and agencies in the country over the years. So when it came time to sell our cruising boat, we chose Virginia Yacht Brokers because they have an excellent track record of selling boats! Chuck Grice and his team are true professionals in the yacht brokerage business, and can handle all aspects of the buying/selling process in its entirety with accuracy, respect, and attention to detail. It was a pleasure to work with them from beginning to end. Chuck is extremely knowledgeable and keeps tabs on the pulse of the market. As a result, his many years of experience come through with every question or raised concern, and he resolved or answered every detail with comfortable competence. Kelsey Grice is a master at staging to show a yacht at its best, and her photography provided a compelling and spot-on tour of our boat for the listing. Both efforts were paramount to make that special connection between our boat and buyers looking for just such a yacht. We are thrilled at the speed with which the folks at Virginia Yacht Brokers attracted qualified buyers and then followed through for the eventual sale. We also are especially pleased that it was enjoyable as well. We highly recommend Chuck Grice and the team of Virginia Yacht Brokers. They are true authorities when it comes to cruising trawlers and motor yachts.

RE: Grice Team
The best trawler on the market is debatable; the best boat broker is not. As a retired couple who has had many boats over the years, we have dealt with many brokers. Chuck and Kelsey are the total package: honorable, knowledgeable, and fun. There are highs and lows when buying or selling a boat, but the Grice Team stays the course - guiding you in the right direction while at the same time, truly listening to your wishes. It took us 3 years to find the right trawler. Chuck never grew weary with our e-mails, which he and Kelsey answer promptly. And, after closing the deal, they continue to answer our e-mails, helping us with everything from arranging overdue maintenance to providing design tips for the salon! Bottom line: Chuck is not about chasing the dollar. His motivation is to provide his customer with the best result. We will always choose the Grice Team.
Chuck, I want to thank you and Kelsey for making the purchase or our 396 Carver a very smooth and professional transaction. You were always so prompt on getting back to us with any questions or concerns. We will be sure to pass on your information to anybody looking to buy or sell a boat. It was a pleasure dealing with you both and look forward to seeing you both again.
We’ve been meaning to take a moment to write and let you know how much we appreciated the help you gave us in buying our 44' Gulfstar. After a bad experience with another dealer, we appreciated having professional, honest, and pleasant people to deal with. You certainly went out of your way to help us, not just when the sale was proceeding, but after the sale as well. It's easy to see why you have been in business for so long; you both go that extra mile that keeps folks coming back.
We have just gone through the selling process and three different brokers to finally get our boat sold. The first two brokers had the attitude of get the listing, put the boat on Yachtworld and sit back and wait for the phones to ring. With the first broker we also showed in two boat shows at a cost of almost $4000 out of our pocket only to have the brokers only spend about 2 hours total out of 8 days showing the boat. A really unhappy experience.
Happy New Year Chuck!
I’ve been reflecting on my family's blessings for the past year. Our business successfully provided our wealth management clients with a great year; my family is healthy; and we successfully parted with our 53 Hatteras Extended Deck Motor yacht, "Charlie's Angels"..
Kelsey and Chuck,
I wanted to write to thank you and Kelsey for your help in acquiring 'Big Bear' ex.' Pleiades' our Grand Banks 46. Having purchased and sold several boats over the past 40 years I must complement you and your staff on the professionalism in handing this transaction.
I just wanted you to know what a pleasure it was dealing with you and Kelsey with the purchase of our 42 Grand Banks. Your honesty and professionalism made the entire transaction a pleasure. Not only dealing with you was a pleasure, but even your detailing crew along with the yard staff at Atlantic Yacht Basin were very professional and sincere. We look forward to dealing with you in the future, and I highly recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone wanting to buy or sell their boat.
Chuck, my wife and I have just completed another successful boat sale with you as our broker. This is the third time we have come to you over a 10-year period. We bought a boat from you and have sold two of our boats with you. That history in itself speaks to your professionalism and the way you handle yacht sales. All three transactions were completed in a seamless and timely manner. Thanks Again,
Dear Kelsey & Chuck,
Missy and I were so pleased with how painless the process of selling our boat, the BLUE BABOO, was for us. Right from the start, we knew we'd put our boat in the right hands. You did such a great job with marketing it. The interior and exterior photos were very professional and no doubt helped to create interest from your online customers. We also appreciated that when you had an interested buyer, you kept in close contact with us about the negotiations. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to friends and family.
Hi...I’d like to thank your organization for doing a superb job handling my recent purchase of a Mainship Pilot. Bob Starr did a fabulous job showing me the vessel, helping me locate and coordinate surveyors and engine inspectors, and negotiating the sale. He even went as far as investigating minor mechanical/electrical deficiencies so they could be corrected quickly. I would expect to engage Va Yacht Brokers as a Buyer Broker for my next purchase when I move onto a bigger vessel. I couldn’t be more pleased with his performance. You have my highest recommendation.
Just wanted to drop you a line and thank everyone at VA Yachts for making our purchase of Lucky Enough, a Mainship 34, a positive experience.
After having heard wonderful things about Chuck Grice and Virginia Yacht Brokers over the years, when we decided to sell our 43’ Vista, we listed it with Chuck and at the same time asked him to help us find our next boat. He came to see our boat, took wonderful photos, determined a sales price that was realistic, fair and attractive to prospective buyers, and had it listed by the following business day. The photos and description he published drew a great deal of interest, and we had a contract on our boat within three weeks. At the same time, he contacted brokers of boats in which we expressed an interest, giving us knowledgeable and candid assessments of their condition. He also used his networking resources to locate what turned out to be the perfect boat for us—not yet listed! In a matter of six short weeks from start to finish, we had sold our boat and bought our current boat. Amazing! Chuck is a consummate professional—he has made it his business over the years to develop an in-depth knowledge of a vast array of boats. He conducts his business with integrity, infinite patience and gentility. He made this entire process seamless from start to finish. He has a well-deserved reputation for excellence, and we can attest to the fact that there is no finer, more reliable, hard working broker than Chuck Grice.
My experience as a seller with Virginia Yacht Brokers was a very good one. Bob Starr was my broker and I just can't express what a pleasure it was to work with him in selling my 1987 36' Grand Banks. Bob went above and beyond to get my boat sold. I can say Bob drove over 200 miles to show my boat on several occasions. His knowledge, advice and hard work led to a quick sale.
I am the happy new owner of "Scrimshaw", and I feel the urge to let you all know that a great part of this happy ending adventure hinges around Bob's personality and skills. He is a lot more than a proper and honest salesperson, he has a warm human touch that puts the diffident potential customer at ease. Importing a boat to Italy is many times more difficult than buying within your own Country. Issues like shipment, Customs, CE rules, 220V, etc, definitely are overwhelming, and may discourage anybody,no matter how much he likes the boat.
It took us several months, and a lot of patience, mainly from Bob's side.
We had been looking for a boat for several years. We had traveled from Virginia Beach to other parts of Virginia and even to Maryland. We always came back to Virginia Yacht Brokers in our area. Each time we called or went to the boat yard we spoke to Chuck Grice and over the years there was never any pressure to buy; always a discussion as to our wants and needs for the boat. Over this time, Chuck Grice had given us suggestions, ideas and his wisdom from his 30 years of boating. In December 2011 we purchased "Heaven" to Betsy, a 48 Chris Craft CPMY. Chuck's availability to us gives us great assurance as new boat owners. We are loving the boat more with every outing and can't say enough about Chuck's attention to us, the boat and our future as owners.
Dear Kelsey and Chuck,
As you know, last summer, we lost the IVER JEAN II to a fire at our Yacht Club. After absorbing the lost, Iver and I decided that the style boat we had before, really fit our life and family. Immediately, we thought of you and Virginia Yacht Brokers. Our experience with you and the company in the purchase of the IVER JEAN II was so smooth, uncomplicated and satisfying throughout the transaction, that the first and only person we thought of to sell us our next boat would be BOB STARR!
Ann and I wanted to let you and Kelsey know how pleased we are with the way Virginia Yacht Brokerage handled the recent sale of the Elizabeth Ann, our 2001 Defever 44 trawler.
We have nothing but good things to say about your company. From the first handshake, we admired your sincerity and integrity. When "EYE SEA FOREVER" was threatened by Hurricane Irene, we never doubted you would do whatever was necessary to make sure she was taken care of and protected. You have continued to go above and beyond what would normally be expected of a broker from making sure we had proper arrangements for shipment of the boat to helping with the transfer process of the boat from Virginia to Florida to make sure she's ready to be loaded safely. The web site listing of "EYE SEA FOREVER" was comprehensive and professionally done so consequently what first attracted us to see the boat. We would without hesitation recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers for listing our boat to sell.
We cannot thank you enough for the excellent job you did in representing us in our latest boat purchase. We are convinced that your relaxed yet professsional approach is what made all the difference in the transaction. You were the "glue" that kept the deal together. While we know you shy away from compliments, we cannot send enough of them. Your years of knowledge, genteel demeanor and professionalism were evident every step of the way, and your support staff was exceptional. We have made seven major boat purchases over the years, and you were, by far, the best agent we have ever had. Recently when telling a friend about your abilities and suggesting they contact you when they were ready to list their current boat, their reply was: "We know Chuck...and you're right, he is the best! He sold us this boat, and is the only one to call". That says it all.
Ken and I want to thank you for all you have done for us, all the phone calls, with our emotional highs and lows, and for the effort you put into advertising our little Buster. Chuck, you have a most pleasant way about you which instills trust and honesty in those you deal with. We not only think of you as our broker, but also as our friend.
Thank you for recently completing the sale of my 36 Grand Banks "Grace". I knew when I bought the boat five years ago through Virginia Yacht, I would be back when the time came to end the adventure. Your facility is located on the central East Coast, where it is easily accessible to the large population centers of Washington, New York and all of Florida. It is easily accessible to 90% of the people who buy boats. In addition your staff is well qualified and connected up and down the East Coast. The facilities at Atlantic Yacht Basin are well known to the Intracoastal boating world and are outstanding, making the combination with the brokerage more than superb. The adventure was well worth the time and expense. Twice up and down the coast from the Cape (Mass) and Islands to the Keys (Fl) and to Syracuse and back on the Erie Canal was the thrill of a lifetime. Something I had dreamed about all my life and the stories will go on being told for a long time. The sounds of Dolphin at night breathing near the anchored boat in Georgia with absolutely no visible lights (or people) is something I will never forget. My introduction to Grace was through Virginia Yachts and I was never disappointed. The boat was as described and met all my needs. The sale was also with you completing the great adventure. Thank you very much for the experience!!!
I sincerely want to thank you for the yeoman job you did handling and finally selling my Nordic Tug, LADY LINDA. Having at one time been the majority owner of Nordic Tugs, Inc. and handling east coast sales as a Yacht Broker, I am very aware of working with brokers whom I ranked 1 through 10. On this scale Virginia Yacht Brokers would rank at the top of my brokers list with a grade of 1, the best. I have already recommended a number of Nordic Tug owners whom the company built boats for over the years under my ownership and will continue to advise them to consider VYB before listing with any other brokers.
We engaged Chuck Grice to find a buyer for a large classic wood hull trawler. We knew the challenge: this was a boat for committed connoisseurs of trawler heritage—a tiny segment of the boat buyers’ market. We also knew that such boat lovers were an international community; they could be anywhere in the world. Chuck knew exactly who he’d have to reach and how to reach them. He was sensitive to our needs at all times and the expectations of potential buyers. That takes deep knowledge of boats and extensive experience with people. Chuck’s team detailed the boat so she presented beautifully. He was able to call on Atlantic Yacht Basin’s crack services team to ensure that we didn’t have any mechanical problems at survey. And his admin staff ensured that all of the conveyancing procedures for the sale were effortless. We were, in the end, able to select from a range of serious offers, and were happy to see the boat find a home with a knowledgeable buyer in the Southern Hemisphere. The entire process from marketing to sale was international in scope, with offers received from as diverse locations as the Pacific Northwest, Turkey and Australia. There’s a number of factors that make him the best broker on the East Coast: location on the ICW, great staff, all the resources of Atlantic Yacht Basin, knowledge and experience. But in the end, it gets down to personal qualities, and here’s a guy who really cares…
Faye and I are very grateful for the excellent way you and the rest of the Virginia Yacht Brokers staff managed the sale of our yacht, FUZZIE B. From the supply of a captain to bring her to Atlantic Yacht Basin to the actual handling of the sale, you and your associates managed every detail with the highest level of professionalism. We chose Virginia Yacht Brokers in large part because of your aggressive marketing approach. The quality photography and staging of FUZZIE B presented our yacht in the most favorable way. We were equally impressed with your diligence in learning the operation of the various systems on the boat. The location of Virginia Yacht Brokers in an area frequented by boaters and the success you had in selling quality boats during the 2010 season gave us the assurance that we had chosen the right brokers. We also appreciated the free detailing and cleaning which showed FUZZIE B continually at her best. Many thanks for great service and the timely sale of FUZZIE B. We would recommend without reservation, you and the associates of Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone who is looking to purchase or sell a yacht.
We wanted to write and sincerely thank you for your very professional job you did as our broker on the sale of our 46' Alaskan Trawler. It is hard to believe you could get so much done in such a short period of time. From my first call to you to discuss selling, when the boat was still in Florida, to the close of the sale in Virgina, was just over 90 days. I called you on November 5, 2010 and the sale closed on January 10, 2011. I attribute the short time period to your very professional marketing, great photography and high exposure through your advertising. It certainly was worth bringing the boat north from Florida to have you be our broker.
From the moment I met you, Chuck, you put me at ease. You let me browse through the boats I was interested in with no pressure. You left me on the boat to discover what I could, but were right there if I had a question. I liked the no pressure sales so much I stayed over 3 hours and took over 300 pictures. Of course you know the result, we bought the boat. My wife and I were very pleased with the extra care you and your staff at VYB took with us. Even though we can’t play with our new toy for a couple of months, just knowing that you are there looking over the boat puts us at ease. If we ever buy another boat or need to sell one you will be our first call. Thanks again for all your help.
We wish to thank you for making the sale of Breakaway go smoothly. Your professionalism, integrity, and concern could not be better. It is understandable why VYB has such a great reputation in the boating industry. Thank you for all your personal attention to the smallest detail. May 2011 be a happy and most prosperous year for you all.
Our acquaintance with Virginia Yacht Brokers goes back a number of years. Throughout our association, we have found them to be honorable, trustworthy, conscientious and professional. So it was natural, when the time came to sell our 42' Grand Banks, to list her with Virginia Yacht Brokers. Bob had two parties with whom he had been working and within one week after Bob showed our boat, we had an acceptable offer, followed by a quick and efficient closing. Without hesitation, we would highly recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone buying or selling a boat. Virginia Yacht Brokers met and exceeded our expectations for professional yacht brokerage.
Becoming a first time yacht owner is a major step. However, Chuck was a wonderful caring person to make this a fun filled adventure for us. He did not pressure us at all, not like car salesman.. Or even real estate agents. He even told us to think about this major purchase and go home before making any offer. What a guy!!! I want to thank Chuck for making this the most enjoyable experience of our entire life. This experience was painless! Chuck was so helpful and did not pressure us at all to purchase a yacht. This experience was most enjoyable, fun, exciting for this first time buyer. This has been a dream come true for my husband and me. We just took our yacht out this weekend and enjoyed getting the feel for the boat for the first time. Thank you Chuck. I will recommend you and your staff to anyone I come in contact with since you have so much to offer to a first time buyer. You are great, professional, and so knowledgeable. Chuck, thank you.
It has been a pleasure doing business with you. You are a real professional. You kept me informed on all aspects. Your advice on things was good. If I ever have another boat to sell, you will be the broker.
I just want to thank you for handling the sale of our 52 MY. The market was very slow but you made the sale happen anyway and because of you and your professional staff everything went smooth and easy for us.
When a person sells two boats within less than 12 months through the same broker, then that in itself speaks highly for the broker. When these two boats had been owned by me for 18 and 12 years, respectively, they were near and dear to my heart. Never the less, I was keenly aware of the depressed state of the market and the necessary concessions. Chuck demonstrated his professionalism in this area. The fact that both boats had been docked under cover and maintained by the same high quality Mid Bay Maintenance yard throughout their lives, and were competently represented by the marina owner to the prospective buyers, that softened the blow somewhat. It deserves to be noted that I now own another new boat, (quite possibly my last boat ever) and I fully intend to enjoy it for some more years. But when the time comes that she, too, needs to be sold, then it can be expected that I once again shall engage the competent services of VIRGINIA YACHT BROKERS, Inc.”
My wife and I want to thank Mr. Chuck Grice and his very efficient staff for the professional manner in which they organized, marketed, and promoted the sale of our American Tug 34. We were cruising in FL and decided to put her on the market to seek a larger vessel. Keeping the boat in FL did not appear to be the best choice as we felt that positioning the boat near the central East Coast would attract potential sales from both the North and South. We had visited Virginia Yacht Brokers a few years ago while looking for a boat and were impressed with the way they did business. They are also co-located in the same yard as the Atlantic Yacht Basin which is an excellent yard for all aspects of yacht maintenance. We had stopped on our trips up and down the ICW several times. With Virginia Yacht Brokers co-located with a top of the line yard, it makes it very easy to have any work done that is necessary while the yacht is in brokerage.
One of the major benefits we found was that Chuck will guide you through the marketing process; how to position your vessel to gain the most exposure to potential customers; and that he "stages" the boat for presentation with pillows, lamps, cleaning, polishing, etc. so it presents it's very best "foot forward." He then has professional photos taken for advertising. Another advantage is that he insures the vessel has a spot under a covered shed while in the water; is washed each week; and he picks up the tab for the first three months of slip fees once sold. Wow! Needless to say, in this tight market, we were not sure how long it would take to sell our boat. There were many other American Tugs on the market and the economics in 2010 were terrible - especially for high dollar items that were meant for pure pleasure. Chuck sold the boat within three months! He had an excellent and detailed listing in Yachtworld and did mail outs that generated a lot of interest. Every week Jennifer, his very able assistant, would send a report on the number of "hits" to the Yachtworld web site and provided updates on any possible contacts that have been made. She is "on top of it." We had a very successful campaign and our boat is now in the hands of an able yachtsman. We have decided that we will always use Virginia Yacht Brokers for selling our yachts. Thanks to a great professional team.
It was a real pleasure working with you and I can't thank you all enough for all you did to make the transaction a pleasant one. You guys know what you are doing, and handle yourself in a professional manner. Keep up the good work. I have spread the word about Virginia Yacht Brokers here in my area.
I know I have told you this many times, but you were wonderful to work with during the sale of KA-CHING. Kindness, consideration and thoughtfulness coupled with your professionalism who could ask for more? I appreciate all these qualities. Thank you again for your steadfast help. Still bewildering to think KA-CHING is headed to Turkey, but a google search turned up beautiful areas, indeed. She's accustomed to that!
We wanted to convey to you our complete satisfaction in your actions in handling the sale of my boat. You took an older trawler with a lot of hours on it, and worked with us to establish reasonable expectations on our part, and helped establish a fair price. You prepped the vessel and advertised it aggressively. You explained to us that it was a difficult market for boats, and although you said it would be tough to do it, you nevertheless assured us that you would sell our boat. To then receive a reasonable offer in just under five months was a gratifying surprise. We are very appreciative of the effective way you worked with us and the buyer to complete the sale. We are greatly impressed with you and Virginia Yacht Brokers, and would recommend you to other sellers without hesitation.Thank you again for professional, fair, and effective efforts in making this sale happen.
I wanted to take a minute to let you know how much I appreciate your assistance and determination in the sale of the 2002 Carver 450 Voyager. I know in the current climate selling a yacht is not an easy endeavor, but I am very pleased with the results. It was a very satisfying experience dealing with you all during the listing and sale. Thanks again for a very good experience. I hope we can deal with you again in the future.
Can you fall in love with a boat? ABSOLUTELY!!! In 2002 we commissioned Pacific Trawlers to build us a 40 foot Trawler. We knew exactly what we wanted after extensive trips up and down the ICW in a smaller vessel. We built the perfect Trawler exactly the way we wanted, to cruise and live aboard. We had arrangements to store "Goodtidings" at Alantic Yacht basin this winter in anticipation of another trip south this Spring. We got thinking about selling "Goodtidings" in late summer of 2009 after re-evaluating constantly changing demands on our time and we have long known the reputation of VIRGINIA YACHT BROKERS based at Atlantic Yacht Basin. My first telephone contact with Chuck Grice, the president of Virginia Yacht brokers, was very pleasant and my thoughts were that "I like this guy" and if I decided to sell "Goodtidings" I felt that I could trust him to take good care of my boat. I can't begin to tell you how 'right on' my first impression was. From the moment we arrived at Virginia Yacht's docks and having Chuck meet us there and inviting him aboard I knew that I would agree to put my boat into his hands. Their professional handling of "yachts for sale" entrusted to them from their owners is over and beyond what we have come to expect in today's world. Dealing with VYB is like turning back the clock to a time when the customer was treated as an asset rather than an annoyance. "THESE GUYS" keep your boat undercover, clean it regularly, advertise it in PASSAGEMAKER MAGAZINE, send out direct mail postcards and they would not even think about letting anyone sea-trial your baby until you have an agreed upon offer with deposit. They took away all of our apprehensions and fears. BOTTOM LINE?? We put "Goodtidings" into Chuck's hands on September 21, 2009, had a sales contract in hand on January 22, 2010 and a settlement on March 12, 2010. AND THEN, they reimbursed us for 3 months dockage. NOW WE KNOW WHY THEY SELL SO MANY YACHTS! THEY DESERVE TO. GOODTIDINGS AND CALM SEAS.
Bob Starr, our broker, was knowledgeable, energetic, articulate, easily available, and very honest in his advice, opinions, and dealings. He is a professional and takes his business seriously, yet remains enthusiastic, cheerful, and very likeable, even under difficult market circumstances. Believe me when we say he had his "ear to the ground" on market conditions. He's computer savvy, quickly and thoughtfully responded to emails, and did a terrific job in writing up and maintaining the Web pages for the boat. And he kept a close eye on the state and cleanliness of the boat. Moreover, he did a thorough job of making sure that the boat was ready for survey... and piloted a complex boat during the survey. We have worked with a number of brokers over the years and Bob is clearly at the top of the list, with a big drop to second place. They don't come any better. It would be a no brainer to use him again in the future. We also should mention Jennifer Tyler, the office manager. She was a pleasure to work with, also a cheerful pro. Her photos of the boat did more than justice, including its staging. We suspect that she had a hand in the Web work as well. She also kept us up to date through weekly emails with attachments of online "hits" for each boat under VYB contract. And she handled the business end of the sale very efficiently, in a timely manner, and without mistakes. And it doesn't hurt to be reimbursed for three months of covered dockage!
I am now in Stuart FL. after making it down here from Norfolk via the AICW. I just wish to complement you and your staff on the way you handled my purchase of "My September Song", my Defever 49RPH. I believe you went far beyound what would be considered normal proceedure in brokering the purchase of a boat. From the moment I saw the boat advertised on the internet and contacted you, I have been delighted by your honest assesssment of the vessel, your willingness to accomodate my needs, even acting as my banker when I was unable to open a bank account in the U.S. and your ability to handle the "after sales service" in arranging the repairs/additions I requested. You have been a thorough gentleman and I have no hesitation in recommending your service as a broker to any clients you may have, be they sellers or buyers. Please feel free to have any of them contact me directly if they require any information regarding your services offered. I shall hold you as a true friend for the rest of my days and hope to entertain you in Australia one day.
Now that Ellen and I are home after a very pleasant maiden voyage north with our new boat, we just wanted to take a moment to express our appreciation for making the whole process of purchasing the boat effortless and seamless. Your entire team always made us feel comfortably reassured as a result of your quiet confidence and competence. Mentally transitioning, from a sailboat to a motorboat presented us with major challenges due to our previous approach to boating regarding absolute simplicity. Again, your guiding us through the potential rewards of a more complex and comfortable boating experience was very important. Thanks again for making the entire purchasing experience effortless. Wishing you and the entire Virginia Yacht Brokers family a great holiday season and prosperous New Year. If your travels bring you up this way, we would love to see you.
We recently came to Virginia Yacht Brokers looking at boats as the clients of another broker. After dealing with Chuck Grice, we wish we had dealt with him all along. We were making the change from a sailboat to a trawler and had looked at every available vessel (it seemed) from North Carolina to Down East Maine. It is quite ironic that we decided to purchase a boat from VYB, just a few miles from home. From our first meeting, Chuck treated us as though we were his clients and not those of another broker. At every step in the process of buying our new boat, Chuck was there with sage advice and courteous assistance. He took care of all the details and made it easy for us. It was truly a pleasure to work with him, and the rest of the crew at VYB. When the time comes to move up to another boat, we will not hesitate to go to Virginia Yacht Brokers.
Thank you for your assistance in the sale of BLESSINGS. We have always heard that it is a happy day when you buy your boat & a happy day when you sell your boat. For Michael & I it was bittersweet. We are happy she didn't sit through the winter but it was hard to see her go. Of course, it did have to be such a perfect day weatherwise when we drove her for the last time with the buyer & the boat surveyor aboard! You guys have been great through this whole process & really kept us informed. We appreciated how clean BLESSINGS was kept for showings & how understanding you were about the emotional feelings Mike & I experienced. Thanks again for a SUPER job!!
We could not be happier with the courteous, professional and attentive service provided by you during the recent purchase of our 'new-to-us' Oceania 38. You anticipated our every question and went above and beyond to make this a very easy and fun experience. Thanks again for providing such wonderful personal service.
In my opinion Virginia Yacht Brokers is the most professional organization if your looking to sell or purchase a yacht. They did a great job appraising the value of the boat, taking pictures for the web site and keeping me informed about the market. The office staff did a great job sending me activity reports at the end of each month and finalizing the sale. In total I am a very satisfied customer and would highly recommend this organization.
It was a rare opportunity to have purchased and sold our Monk 36 with the incredible assistance of the team at Virginia Yacht Brokers. In our minds these folks define the word "professionalism". We received excellent guidance as we made our first trawler purchase with the help of Chuck Grice. Finding ourselves in the unfortunate position of having to put "Nepenthe" on the market this fall, we feared the worst - a long and painful sales cycle. Much to our surprise and through the great work of Chuck and his team, we have completed the sale within 2 months of listing. If you are either buying or selling, these are the folks to have by your side.
I apologize for taking so long to send this note expressing my gratitude for the excellent job you and your staff did in finding a qualified buyer for our Nordhavn 35. DIRIGO was definitely a special boat with a limited buyers market. I am confident that your “dead on” marketing efforts made the difference in the successful sale of this special trawler in a highly competitive and depressed market. I know of no other brokerage that better addresses the seller’s concerns and vessel upkeep as Virginia Yacht Brokers. Thank you and your staff for a “sale well done”.
The boat I purchased with your able service has now been delivered. I just want to thank you for your timely and professional services in completing this transaction. The negotiations and closing went very smoothly and I cannot imagine having had a better experience in making a purchase such as this. Thank you again.
I was impressed that the boat sold so quickly in a soft market, and to a west coast buyer. VYB handled the transaction very professionally.
I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that Julee and I appreciate the service you extended to us in the sale of our boat. Although Americat is a great boat, this was a difficult sale due to the nature of the boat and the economic times that we are in. We appreciate the fact that you stayed in touch with us, letting us know each time there was a showing. We also appreciated the sales reports that you sent us each month. This allowed us to stay abreast of how the market was going and the amount of traffic our boat was getting on the internet.
Most of all, we appreciate you staying dedicated to the sale of our boat. It was a long process, waiting for the right buyer, but you stayed with us and spent a lot of money on high-end advertising, and we really appreciate it. Although we are no longer boating, at least for now, I would never hesitate to recommend you and your staff at Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone wishing to sell their boat.
Thanks for the great picture of Joyfull. That was very kind of you. As you may know we feel in love with this boat. Thank you for making this whole boat buying affair a very easy and pleasant experience. You were a great help. Thanks for being so responsive and available for questions. Nice doing business with nice people.
You guys were great, and we really appreciate all the extra help you provided in getting the boat ready to take home!! We will highly recommended your services to anyone we run across who may be buying a boat in your area! Thanks so much for all your help!
I have had the fortune of purchasing a diverse variety of vessels ranging from a 13 foot classic Whaler to my present Sabre 47 trawler. In between the pages of time I have parlayed classics such as the Matthews 38 & wooden Egg Harbors. I have had the exhilaration of owning 2 Hinckleys. Throughout my 20 year yachting journey my path has crossed Virginia Yacht Brokers. I have purchased 2 unique vessels brokered by VYB. They accommodated multiple showings at inconvenient hours. Their knowledge, experience, attention to detail and follow-up compliments their genteel, measured, low stress approach to the yacht acquisition process. I look forward to an encore experience in 5 years, wife permitting.
Virginia Yacht Brokers provides an outstanding service. I really felt comfortable with the brokerage as a whole. That is why when I finally found the boat I wanted in another city by a different broker, I asked them to co-broker the purchase. I got great advice and updates over the entire purchase process. Virginia Yacht Brokers made my yacht shopping an exciting and educational experience. I appreciated the professional and personal manner in which the staff treated my wife and me. If we decide to move up to a larger boat someday, I know we will begin that decision in your office. Thank you for all help and advice. Hope to see you again soon.
We want to thank you for an excellent purchase experience. It was an absolute pleasure to do business with you and the staff at Virginia Yacht Brokers. You made the transaction carefree and pleasant. We were very satisfied with the constant communication, accurate information, personal care, and easy closing. If we are ever in the market to buy another boat, we will not hesitate to contact you.
Dealing with Virginia Yacht Brokers has been a very positive experience. Everyone was very patient and accommodating during the closing process. You were also very helpful after I showed up very late for the survey and also when we went down to pick up the boat. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to any of my friends looking for a new boat in the future and will certainly look your way if we ever decide to move up to a bigger boat.
Working with Virginia Yacht Brokers has been a delightful experience, they were at my side all the way to guide me through all the complex stages of purchasing my boat, with enthusiasm, expertise and total availability. I was lucky I found my perfect boat with them, and I'll always be grateful for it. The Red Red Wine arrived safely in NY after a four days trip from Virginia, with a wonderful Captain, highly recommended by Chuck, who cared for her as if it was his own. All in all such a wonderful experience, I know I will go back to Virginia Yacht Brokers for my next boat in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both for helping make a dream come true for us. I have purchased several boats, cars and homes in my life and I have to say that I have never experienced a more professional, friendly and customer service oriented team than you guys and the others working at Virginia Yacht Brokers. Every time we called and ask a question or requested a walkthrough of the boat you all could not have been any more accommodating. I think we knew from the very first interaction with you and your team that we would be purchasing a boat through you all even if it had not ending up being the 46’ Uniflight. We have owned the boat for exactly one week today and it has already been a great joy especially spending the holiday weekend aboard. We have begun redecorating and making it our own. Again, I cannot thank you all enough for your assistance in finding the right boat for us and making it just a wonderful experience to do business with Virginia Yacht Brokers. I will certainly be referring anyone I know looking for a boat to you for assistance.
Thank you so very much for the total effort on the part of you, your staff and your help with AYB in the sale of "Broadview". Broadview was delivered into your hands in May of 2008. You kept her washed, under cover and always presentable for viewing. You and your team followed every lead with maximum effort affecting the sale July 1, 2009. Thank you for accomplishing the sale of Broadview, for being there for the survey, the haul out, the sea trial and for executing all the documents in such a professional manner. I must say you made the process effortless on my part. You followed through with the slip rental rebate without me mentioning it and included the check for my part. It is so refreshing to deal with people of your integrity-you all went out of your way doing all that you said you would and more. Please feel free to use me as a reference any time.
I want to give Bob Starr a pat on the back for handling the recent sale of my Monk 36. I’ve known Bob for several years, but this was my first time dealing with him as a broker. There are three things that very much impressed me: the time and effort he put in, his extensive knowledge of the market, and his customer-friendly style.
Initially, the boat was located near our home, which is about 60 miles from Bob’s office in Chesapeake. He did not mind at all jumping in his car and showing the boat here, on several occasions. He also gave it star billing in all the publications and mailings, and on the Web site. In a very difficult market, we finally decided we would do better if we kept it at Atlantic Yacht Basin, a couple of steps from Bob’s office. He offered a generous three-month slip rent reimbursement, which made that a bit less expensive. He then detailed the boat, staged it, and presented it to potential customers many times. When we did get a serious offer, Bob guided me and provided sound advice that resulted in a successful sale. Bob is a true professional who will give it his very best shot, and the chances are, it will be very pleasant and successful experience for the owner.
It seems a rare occasion indeed to have the opportunity to write to a person, company or team of people (as is the case) that have lived up to and exceeded the often over used service commitment to "meet and exceed your expectations and earn your business". In this case the pleasure is all mine as I sit down at my computer to attempt to express my thanks to you and your team for helping me in the recent purchase of "Sunshine".
From the first contact with you and your associates I have been impressed with the attention and care taken to offer honest and timely feedback, great internet support, photo libraries that were accurate, and answers to the many questions a buyer has when considering such a major purchase from afar. Dealing with international buyers and sellers is never easy. The hurdles different countries impose add complexity to any purchase decision. Again; seeing these hurdles addressed in an honest calm and organized manner contributed significantly to my decision to buy Sunshine with the assistance of Virginia Yacht Brokers. The referrals to supporting services for mechanical and hull surveys were all to reputable firms who delivered their service in a timely, professional and unbiased manner.I commend you and your team, for helping to ensure the timely delivery Sunshine, the effortless process of closing and for living up to every possible expectation I could have had in dealing with a brokerage for the first time. I would of course not hesitate to recommend you and your associates to any prospective buyer or seller and for any future needs I may have in the boating realm.
I want to congratulate on your fine work in the sale of our 1994 Grand Banks 42. The ultimate proof of performance is of course closing the sale on 2/28, approximately two months after listing, in an extremely inactive market. Virginia Yacht Brokers did a thorough job executing its high standards for pre sale preparation of the boat. Jennifer performed like clockwork distributing the weekly website "hits" which was useful market feedback. Your interface with the buying broker was very effective in facilitating an agreed upon price. Thanks again for your invaluable contribution to "moving the goods".
Several months ago as I perused the "Yachts for Sale" section of the Virginia Yacht Brokers, Inc. website, The Spirit of Mudville jumped right out of the monitor screen. After viewing the many photos which displayed every aspect of the boat inside and out, I knew that I needed to be the new owner. With anticipation I traveled from Newport News to Great Bridge to check her out first hand and begin negotiations for a purchase. Little did I know what a pleasant experience that would turn out to be. Over the course of a few days of simple phone calls and e-mails the deal was consummated and I was at the helm of The Spirit of Mudville headed for the James River. The Spirit of Mudville has turned out to be everything that I expected her to be and I look forward to many years of pleasure from one fine boat. From the make an offer stage to final delivery, you guys led the way to a great outcome for both the buyer and the seller. Thank you so much!
Just a quick note before we head out on our new boat to thank you all for your excellent service during and after our purchase of the Nordic Tugs from Virginia Yacht Brokers. The transaction was seamlessly professional and all your extra attention to our requests and questions about the area and the boat (which was kept in immaculate condition) made the whole experience very positive. We look forward to seeing you all again as we cruise by the Great Bridge.
Charles and I were referred to you by Peggy and Joe Gutherz whose 42 Kadey-Krogen you sold and it proved to be an excellent referral. Although we have never met, your service has been exemplary and I suspect the buyer is as happy as we are. Thank you so much for the picture of HYACINTHS: she looks lovely with her flag out and the bumpers stored away. Hope you have a good holiday and thank you again for your honesty and dispatch.
Joyce and I wish to thank you for the excellent yacht brokerage service rendered by Virginia Yacht Brokers in the sale of SeaLarke, our Nordic Tugs 42. The entire handling of the sale was both friendly and professional. We would highly recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to others who have yachts to sell. Best wishes to you.
Recently it has been my pleasure to have listed my boat with Virginia Yacht Brokers in Chesapeake Va. The process started earlier last summer when a conversation lead them to drive to my boat's location in southern Maryland to discuss the possibility of selling my boat. This in itself was very different in that they would take the time and effort to drive round trip was to me impressive. After viewing the boat and having some discussion about how the process would work, it was decided that I would wait until Fall and then take the boat south. October found me at Virginia Yacht Brokers. I was greeted by everyone and the boat was then handed over to them. Over the next week the boat was made shipshape and detailed by their very competent detailer, and a set pictures were taken and text written. The ad was then placed in YachtWorld. PEARL sold that first week. The promise I received was the boat would be stored under cover cleaned and cared for and an effort would be made to sell her. All was delivered. The distress of not having a boat for the first time in thirty years has been made a bit easier by the handling I received from the folks at VYB. I can only give the highest recommendation to Virginia Yacht Brokers.
Anneke and I have what might be considered a most unique experience with Virginia Yacht Brokers. Not only did we purchase Prime Time from Virginia Yacht Brokers, we brought her back to them after living aboard and cruising for almost three years. Both the original purchase and subsequent sale were handled in the most professional manner. They actually kept Prime Time looking better throughout the brokerage than I ever did! I can't think of one thing that they overlooked in marketing Prime Time throughout a most difficult economic cycle. These guys are GOOD!
I would like to thank you and your staff for all their help in our transition from RV's to boats. You were always honest and straight forward, steering us away from some marginal boats that now just seem like a bad idea. Your knowledge and your honest skepticism helped guide us safely to "RIPPLE" while avoiding many boats that would not have been a good investment. I appreciate your always taking the time to answer questions no matter which one of us emailed or called. You took the time to respond to all of us quickly and clearly. At the moment, I can not imagine selling "RIPPLE" and buying another boat, but if I ever do, you will be my first call.
For any prospective customer you may have, I can only offer encouragement to either buy or sell through Virginia Yacht Brokers. We have owned 8 different boats over a 36 year period and have never been treated so professionally. Your organization produced a first class presentation of our 34 year old, 34 foot trawler as if it was one year old and 80 feet long. In a word, we were probably the least expensive listing in your inventory, but we felt that we were treated no differently than your most expensive listing. Finally, your ability to obtain a copy of the survey for our critique, certainly added value to the end result. We wish you and your organization the best.
We had a very satisfying experience with the staff at your brokerage. The listing of the vessel was accurate and detailed so there were no surprises when viewed on the original inspection. This is important to me as an experienced boater, having seen several boats for sale with poor representation in the advertising. We are enjoying the boat and have plans to do some cruises and activities until the snow comes. Thank you for the settlement and delivery we experienced.
Your brokerage service was outstanding and very prompt. Thank you very much. Also, thank you very much for the beautiful photo of the TIKI. Have a great year!
Linda and I have talked for many years of doing some extended cruising once we have retired. My experience with Virginia Yacht Brokers has been so pleasant that you can be sure that we will give you a call should we ever start shopping for that perfect cruising boat. I especially appreciated the counsel that you offered in pricing the boat in what I think must be a very difficult market. In short, everything at Virginia Yacht Brokers seems to be first class to me. Thanks again for your help.
We first saw our new boat in a Virginia Yacht Brokers ad. Well before then, a friend, who is an experienced and discerning boater, had introduced us to them as "top flight brokers." Confident in our friend's opinion we contacted Virginia Yacht Brokers and began the process that led to our purchasing K2-II. Time and again throughout the purchase process our friend's words rang true. Professional, personable, and accommodating; Virginia Yacht Brokers skillfully guided us through the process. Intently focused on their clients, they offered valuable advice that ranged from helping to ensure we were buying a boat that would meet our needs, to recommending highly professional marine surveyors, to coordinating the boatyard's services. Always responsive to our questions and requests, their attention to detail was particularly impressive. Working with Virginia Yacht Brokers was a true pleasure. With their professionalism, customer service, and integrity I would consider them the broker of choice, and would highly recommend them to family or friends. To paraphrase the friend who recommended Virginia Yacht Brokers to us, "we were able to see the process done right!"
Thank you so much for the professional way that you have handled all four of the transactions that you have done for Debbie and I over the years. It is always a pleasure to work with Virginia Yacht Brokers.
I wanted to take a minute to express my sincere thanks for all of your efforts in making it possible for Judy and I to purchase THE PUP. Your web site is outstanding. Simple, but absolutely user friendly. Your pictures are great. THE PUP was just as you depicted it in the written description as well as the pictures. Your helpful but "not pushy" approach to allow us to look at the boat at our pace was much appreciated. Not withstanding the excellent setting at Atlantic Yacht Basin that you provided for the boat, the boat was clean and well taken care of under your watchful hand. Your advice on surveyors, both marine and engine, were right on track. Your personal relationship with the owner and you making it possible for us to meet and talk was outstanding. I have already shared with several of my friends the type of service that you have provided to Judy and I. I believe that the quality and professional services of your Company coupled with the fine facility/services so conveniently located at Atlantic Yacht Basin provide a winning combination for potential buyers or sellers. I wish you the very best and all the success that you can stand!
Prior to my contacting you, I wasted 2 years with another broker and never had an offer. You told me what to do to the boat to make it more sellable and we had an offer within a few months and out of season at that. If I had to do it again, I would go with Virginia Yacht Brokers, the company that knows how to sell a boat.
Sandy and I couldn't be happier with the boat we bought from you. You've been terrific, including the great job and advice you gave us when you sold our boat two years ago, the help and more advice through our long search for just the right boat, and the full service, hands-on guidance through the offer, negotiation, and survey stages for our "new" boat. We couldn't ask for more and I would not hesitate one second to let others know of the supremely professional, highly knowledgeable, and very friendly service available at Virginia Yacht Brokers. Thanks a million.
I want to express my sincere thanks for the very professional way you handled the overall sale. The excellent photographs of the boat, the way you advertised it and your international reach all contributed to the quick sale at close to the asking price. This is particularly noteworthy considering the current depressed market for boats. Needless to say we're delighted with the way it turned out and I would highly recommend you to all of my boating associates. As a matter of fact, I already have.
Virginia Yacht Brokers has provided us with an outstanding level of service. Our experience with them has been totally positive and not only will we utilize them for our next marine transaction but recommend them without hesitation to both buyers and sellers. We now understand why they have so many repeat clients.
What a great experience it was to deal with your company this past July. You were so easy going all the way through the deal, as I call it ,low pressure and I like it. Thanks so much for everything.
Two sales seasons into a frustrating experience with new replacement brokers every few months...I gave her to Virginia Yacht Brokers at recommendation . Best advice I ever got! They always remained upbeat and positive about our prospects, even with her(vessel's) 20+ of age, yet always informative with his "reality checks" about the number of boats on the market, what they sold for, economic downturns, petrol pricing impacts, and a host of issues that made me an informed seller able to adjust my price, terms or whatever was needed to sell my boat. We found the perfect owner who will love and care for her; and I even go the price I had hoped for all along.
You are truly a professional yacht broker. Your knowledge of the boating industry is unexcelled. It was a difficult decision to sell Magnolia, but your compassion, regarding her sale, certainly helped ease "our pain". We thought your initial description of Magnolia on the Internet was outstanding, and obviously got the attention of numerous prospects. We thank you so very, very much for all of your assistance. In the future, should you ever need a reference, please feel free to contact us, as we consider you the best in the industry.
I have lost count of the number of boats that I have owned. I think that my 2001 Grand Banks 52 Europa SUNSHINE that you sold was my 12th. It was the best yacht brokerage experience that I have ever had.
Buying a boat 2500+ miles away from our home was not easy. We had to rely on honesty and good faith from the broker, and you did not let us down. When it was time to survey the boat, you set up the process to fit our schedule and everything went flawlessly. We thank you for your professionalism, honesty and diligence in completing our purchase.
Buying a boat long distance is complicated, but you were invaluable in helping us find engine and hull surveyors, attending to all the details, and even helping me return the rental car. We are very happy with our boat and extremely pleased with our experience.
Buying this boat, as you well know, has been a life long dream for me. I am planning to spend my retirement cruising the coastal waters of the east coast. You and your staff have made the process of buying this boat a truly pleasurable experience. Thanks again for all of your time and effort.
We want to thank you for taking such good care of our boat while trying to sell her. She was immaculate inside as well as outside with the cleaning you provided. We appreciated that and all the extras. We would recommend Virginia Yacht Brokers to anyone trying to sell their boat--happily.
Your people are extremely talented and very results oriented. Your website and on-site sales management are, in my opinion, by far the best in the industry. Of course, your sale at a price I felt was a win-win for both seller and buyer was the tangible proof of your excellence. By the way, your access to the super technical talent at Atlantic Yacht Basin is a major plus. Well done and thanks to your team.
