Meet The Sailing Life Team!
The Sailing Life opened its doors in 1986 as one of the few woman-owned sailboat dealership/brokerages. Over the years we've grown to become Portland's premier dealership, both because we represent the excellent lines of Hunter and Beneteau, and because we always have a fine selection of used boats. Our service has improved as we've grown from a one-woman owned business to a staff of eight.
As a smaller company, we work very hard to make the boat buying experience comfortable for our customers. A good example of this is that we open our boats EVERY Sunday, rain or shine, so that our customers can look at and be on the boats at a relaxed and leisurely pace, without pressure, but with informed staff available. Owner Karen Trusty says, "We listen carefully to all our customers in order to help them find the 'right' boat. Buying a sailboat is akin to adopting a pet---it is really important to match the owners to their boat." Our Service Department is headed by James Rouse, who is an experienced Gel Coat and Fibeglass Technician. Wearing dual hats, Debbie Reed is our bookkeeper and head of our detailing deparment. As our mission statement declares, "…The Sailing Life, by selling sailboats in our own unique and open way, contributes to the opening of our customers and staff to the joys, mysteries and richness of life."
