Wallace Yacht Company image Wallace Yacht Company specializes in yachts of value, substance and character. Take a look at all of the listings and you will find that each boat is very desirable and unique in each category of yacht,.....

Living aboard is a life choice, and is often mistaken for an expensive endeavor. This does not have to be the case. Boat people are boat people and simply make the choice to spend time on the water as a lifestyle. We chose to have our boats and skip the normal chores, expenses, and lifestyle of maintaining traditional homes in the 'burbs. Many of us drive cash cars, skip mowing lawns, and the other things that add up in terms of living expenses and demands. It is a matter of selecting your preferred lifestyle, adjusting your life accordingly, and pursuing your wishes.

I seek the best in each category I represent. There are several heirloom quality offerings which show that the best is available in a broad range of prices, putting safe and beautiful cruising, racing and collectible yachts within financial reach of those of us who appreciate them and aspire to own, cruise, race and live on what are some of the finest yachts in the world.

I have been in the bilges of every boat you see here. I have tapped on each hull, dug at each wooden yachts' ribs, and sailed or operated most of them underway.

I will not select a yacht to represent based on convenience or accessories. Accessories can be had at wholesale prices and convenience can be overcome with shipping and delivery. The best is the best and it is where it is. The Wallace Yacht Company has active listings on both the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts, in both the USA, Vancouver Island, the San Juan Islands, as well as in Mexico.

About 30% of my business is not advertised. Look at the photographs......you will see features which set these yachts apart....Pictures and information that you need to see to make the purchase decision, or at least decide whether the boat is worth the plane ticket and time to see it.

My name is Walter Wallace and I want to personally thank you for visiting my business.

Wallace Yacht Company image Whether your acquisition is next week or next year, you will find that you will set the pace of your yacht purchase. The earlier in the process we can develop a dialog, the better. You will be able to familiarize yourself with more options and be better equipped to acquire the boat which more precisely meets your needs and budget. For some, it is an immediate need, for others, the decision will take 2 years. Your inquiries are welcome, regardless of your desired time of purchase.

The negotiation process can be a very trying experience. I work very hard to keep the process as short and painless as possible. I handle this part of your acquisition in a professional manner with swiftness and discretion. We have financing avenues available for modern composites, fiberglass, steel and wood hulls.

You will find creative solutions to your needs, such as exploring transactions involving trades, etc. We will make every effort to ensure that your experience is unique and memorable.

Wallace Yacht Company image Insurance and financing are available at the SAME rates and terms for wood and fiberglass. Basic financing terms are normally 20 or 30 percent down, over a term of 20 years. Additionally, the mortgages on vessels often fall under the same tax criteria as a primary or secondary home, with the interest being deductible.

I recently sold 2 very different vessels of my own to purchase my current yacht. One was a modern fiberglass motorsailer, and the other a 1926 restored 65 foot tug boat. Interestingly, insurance costs for full coverage were cheaper per thousand insured on the restored wooden vessel than it was on the modern motorsailer; and maintenance costs were equal.

Maintenance money was spent in different ways, but ended up being the same. I am not suggesting that everyone own a wooden vessel, I am just suggesting that should a high quality vessel be of interest to you, that you may be pleasantly surprised with the ownership experience of either material. The Tourist Delivery page answers the "how do I get her home?" question.

Wallace Yacht Company image I live aboard my 100 year old wooden vessel, and have owned both fiberglass and wooden boats. My clients continue to contact me for advice and help for many years after their purchases. Living aboard provides me with an opportunity to help with my clients’ awareness as far as systems that provide service reliably and simply. Don't believe everything you find yourself exposed to in blogs, magazines, and boat shows. My advice to my clients is ALWAYS based on personal experience and since I have no financial relationship with any product or vessel manufacturer, or service; you may rest assured that my only motivation in discussing products and systems is your satisfaction.

Living aboard does not equate to “camping out”, unless you want it to. Make your list of what you have to have (a few of mine were a 30 minute HOT shower, galleys I could enjoy a passion for cooking in, a well ventilated dry and very warm living space, and other desires and requirements), and let’s see if I can make some recommendations. We can hopefully come up with the perfect vessel that fulfills your dreams.

I also acquire and restore my own yachts. In consideration for this passion, you will also find yachts of unique interest and potential value. Some are collectible, and some are projects worthy of time and money well spent.

Thank you for considering Wallace Yacht Company for your next home afloat.....

25' Howard Chappelle Friendship Sloop
1977 US$ 19,740

We are proud to introduce this Friendship Sloop, Selkie, to you.

Friendship sloops are named after their original build and cruising grounds, Friendship, Maine. The design for Selkie, was taken directly from Howard Chappelle’s’ original design, kept at the Smithsonian Institution.

In the trues sense of “form following function”, the renown Friendship sloop’s form was developed from functional need. Her stern is designed to accommodate a low work platform, in order to allow lobstermen to ply their trade in as safe manner as possible in the turbulent waters of the North Eastern United States. The hull form is designed for speed, and her sail plan is designed so that the lobsterman can “let go” of her sheets and control lines while leaving her sails up when stopping to tend traps and lines. In this mode, the Frienship sloop instantly changes from a highly efficient and fast sailing vessel, to a large and stable work platform, now steadied by her sails.

Her fixed, full keel was designed after a catastrophic hurricane took out many of the centerboard models of fishing vessels, in 1888. Clearly; the need for a safer work platform was answered with the full fixed keel of these Friendship Sloops. Her tear drop underwater shape, and transition to her beautiful wine glass transom was designed for speed.  An additional benefit of this shape resulted in her wide and stable work area, aft. Creature comforts forward allowed lobstermen and fishermen to stay warm and dry, with bunks,  wood burning stoves, and the means to have a hearty and warm meal simmering during hard days at sea.

These Friendship sloops appeal to those who seek to keep traditional designs with us, and have a tremendous and fiercely loyal following of enthusiasts. Additionally, this design also coincidentally is perfect for modern day recreational mariners. Her inside creature comforts are appreciated today, and the Friendships application for a modern day day sailer and camper is amazingly efficient and comfortable. Her stability in a myriad of sea conditions, make her ideal for family outings, and her speed make her a joy in after work regattas. Her immense load carrying ability comes in handy today for entertaining friends and family in your adventures.

Selkie, in particular, was built from the highest quality materials, and no shortcuts were taken in her construction. Even the notoriously tricky transom was faithfully and masterfully constructed. Details like her bronze fitments (note her sculling mount aft), bronze port lights, wood burning stove and Sitka Spruce spars are evidentiary testimony to her quality which stands ready for future generations to enjoy.

She was built by Jim Lyons, of Port Townsend, Washington.

She has teak leak-free decks, a hull of Western Red Cedar on White Oak ribs, with guards and worm shoe of iron bark. Her beautiful interior is very beautiful and functional as well. A warm environment is crafted of teak, Yellow Cedar, as well as Eastern Aromatic Cedar.

The one deviation from the original design is her standing rigging. Originally, these vessels had a free standing mast, much like a Catboat’s mast. Stainless wire rigging was added to this particular little ship for increased structural integrity in heavy weather and waters. In keeping with her aesthetics, her wires were wrapped and traditionally affixed. High cost and labor went in to areas one would hardly notice, as seen in her bronze rudder hardware.

Selkie is on the hard, as shown, and her pictures are accurate and current. I shot many pictures of details, which may seem a bit confusing as her mast and gaff are hung in her owner’s workshop. I took many detail shots, in effort to allow viewers from afar to understand that she is exceptional in her construction and condition. I noted no “soft wood”, “bleeders”, or other deal breaking issues when I inspected and photographed her. You will find photos of her bilges and ballast, as well as some shot os under her decking, showing no evidence of leaks, in every place I looked. I inspected the vessel as if I were buying her and was quite happy with her design, execution of construction, materials, and current condition.

Please take some time and enjoy her extensive photo listing, and I thank you for visiting my site.
