Certified Professional Yacht Broker
Endorsed by the Yacht Brokers Association of America, CPYB is the new standard of performance for professional yacht brokers. In 2002 the first twelve brokers nationwide earned the CPYB designation including Warren Trafton, "We have raised the performance standards and certification makes me better prepared to serve our customers."
CPYB is to yacht brokers what CPA is to accountants and CLU is to insurance. As in other professions, performance standards, professional training, and recognition are essential tools to maintain aggressive performance goals and sound business practices.
The CPYB prgram was developed as a collaberation of three prominent professional associations: Yacht Brokers Association of America, the Nortwest Yacht Brokers Association, and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association.
These three groups employed the sevices of the National Occupational Compentency Testing Institute to help define the body of knowledge required to be a CPYB. They then developed a certification exam comprising 151 questions, designed to be an objective measurement of a broker's knowledge.
Only those brokers with sufficient experience and demonstrated professionalism are chosen to sit for the four hour exam. Those who are certified must engage in continuing education inorder to be re-certified every three years.
The yachting community can expect the highest level of competency, and professionalism from the growing number of brokers who have achieved the CPYB designation.
