SCYS sells third 44 Viking in '08 !
In late August, we sold our third 44 Viking Motoryacht in 2008. "Lady Bug" left Port Clinton in early September and headed to her new home at Pier 1000 Marina. The weather was gorgeous as we left Lake Front Marina, dead flat calm across Lake Erie, through the Detroit River and up to Port Huron where we spent the first night at the River Street Municipal Docks. Our crew consisted of Phil and Candie Hornberger, owners of "Fuelish Reward", a 1983 Viking 44 Motoryacht and Mike DeFrancesco, owner of Sunset Coast Yacht Sales. Leaving Port Huron, we headed up Lake Huron hoping to make Presque Isle...but due to increasing wind and waves we had to once again bail out and head into Harrisville. We docked at the Harrisville Harbor of Refuge, docking in 20+ knot winds, tied up, cleaned up the boat and then headed out to explore the town. We noticed the the "Captains Corner" bar is now for sale and upon further wondering found a great new pizza spot..."Simple Miracles Pizza"...wonderful Detroit Style pizza. We totally recommend this combination grocery store and deli. We were up at dawn to check the wind and as it was down, we left ASAP. It was still rough, but the winds were expected to clock to the north and the further north we went, the calmer it became. We motored into the Mackinac Island State Docks at about 2:30pm and tied up. The weather was gorgeous with brilliant sunshine, puffy clouds and warm temps. We spent the next two days exploring the Island while waiting for gale force winds to blow out. We left early Saturday afternoon and ran down to Leland in time to check out the "Tugboat Store" and have a great dinner at the "Blue Bird". Not too many boats left in the marina after Labor Day. We left Sunday, before dawn and the further south we ran...the calmer it got. We fueled at Pentwater and by the time we were down to Holland and points south...it was dead flat calm. We arrived at the St. Joseph lighthouse at 7:00 with the start of a beautiful sunset. We had run 777 miles on the dot from Port Clinton to St. Joseph. "LADY BUG" had performed like a champ and never missed a beat. Kudo's to our Surveyor, David Boesrsma and diesel Surveyor Burt Linke. We received a hero's welcome with an escort from the new owners and their friends as we idled up the river to her new home. Congratulations to her new owners. These Viking 44's have now come down in price and in our opinion represent a great boating value for someone who wants great liveaboard accommodations, incredible storage and an excellent cruising yacht capable of easily doing the Great Loop. We have now sold more of these boats than any other broker on the Great Lakes. If this boat sounds like something you would be interested in...contact our office and we can discuss finding you the best boats at the best price.
