Island Packet Rendezvous
Suncoast Yachts 2013 Island Packet Rendezvous - Catalina Island
Suncoast’s 20th annual Island Packet Rendezvous was a huge success! We arrived in Two Harbors, Catalina Thursday morning and kicked the weekend off with registration on the beach. Sailors were invited to bring their lunch to the beach, pick up their registration bags and visit with other Island Packet owners. After lunch we got acquainted with a boat to boat visit. Everyone got in their dinghy’s and starting with the smallest boat, visited each boat while tasting wine and hors d'oeuvres. We finished off Thursday with a beach pot-luck.
On Friday afternoon we had a group sail. Later, we went to the beach for an excellent catered dinner provided by Two Harbors restaurant. We capped the night off with door prizes. Ken Nolan won our grand prize of a free bottom job from Shelter Island Boat Yard. Our rendezvous took place on Cruisers Weekend so many of our owners stayed in Catalina for the entire weekend to attend the seminars. We had eleven boats this year and thanks to the owners and all our sponsors, we had a great time at the 2013 rendezvous.
Suncoast Yachts 2007 Island Packet Rendezvous - San Diego
Our 2007 Rendezvous commenced in San Diego this year after a last minute change of venue due to a lack on interest in going out to Catalina Island. Will Dittmer, our Island Packet Customer Service Representative, was a hit as he fielded technical questions from many our owners. Ann Kinner of Seabreeze Nautical Books gave a great presentation on cruising guides and LeNan and Rod Thompson enlightened us on the ins and outs of provisioning. Dave Fleck of Western Yacht Commissioning brought our attention back to the nitty gritty of maintaining our mechanical systems while Kevin Kolaki finished out the day updating us on the new electronics coming out. We finished off Friday evening with an excellent BBQ sponsored by San Diego Marine Exchange and prepared by Chez Arlan Brown. Helen Powell took first prize in our desert competition but truthfully they were all excellent.
Saturday we started out the day hearing from Chuck Skewes of Ullman Sails who demonstrated how easy it can be to use an asymmetrical spinnaker with a sock. Our group sail that afternoon was quite relaxing thanks to a Santa Anna which had settled over San Diego. We perked things up in the evening with our dinner and raffle at Fiddlers Green Resturant. Bill Noonan, one of our owners, was gracious enough to share an interesting presentation he had created about their passage through the Panama Canal. Our evening ended with our ever popular raffle. We had a lot of great sponsors this year with too many prizes to count. Mac McLeod walked off with the top prize of a folding bike from Dimen Financial. Way to go Mac!
