Past Grand Banks Rendezvous
The 10th Annual Suncoast Grand Banks/Eastbay Rendezvous was held May 17th and 18th, 2002 at the San Diego Yacht Club. A lack if availability of slips caused some of the attending boats to be rafted in La Playa Cove while the others obtained guest slips at the SDYC. Friday night’s usual pot-luck dinner was replaced with a boat-to-boat party which was boatloads of fun.
Saturday’s events were held in the Staff Commodore’s room at the Yacht Club. Seminars included the ever popular Ford Lehman clinic by Bob Smith of American Diesel Corp. Also featured were representatives from Hawthorne Power Systems to speak about Caterpillar Engines and Cummins Cal Pacific to speak about Cummins engines. Marilyn Henley, author of ‘Cooking on the Hook’ (her book is out now and available at cookbooksbymarilyn.com) spoke on cooking aboard. Other talks included the subjects of exterior maintenance, pets aboard and maintenance questions. Owners of 27 boats were given time to visit and view each other’s boats prior to dinner.
Saturday night’s dinner was held at the SDYC and enjoyed by all. After dinner, Bob Phillips of Grand Banks shared information and a slide show of current events at the Grand Banks factory. Door prizes were given away and each boat went home with lots of goodies.
Thanks to all of the owners who attended this grand event! Thanks also to all of the generous individuals and companies who donated door prizes!

One of the most fun things of the rendezous is all the different vintages, styles and sizes of boats made by one manufacturer docked at the same location. Attendees enjoy seeing each others boats during "Open Boat Viewing Time." These Grand Banks and Eastbays and an Alaskan were docked at our facility in May 2001 during the Grand Banks and Eastbay Rendezvous.
Saturday evening's catered dinner is followed by a guest speaker. Speakers in the past have included Sid Stapleton; retired Astronaut and GB32 owner, Wally Schirra; and Duncan McIntosh of SEA Magazine.
