Business owners adjust,turn things upside down to withstand recession.
"Another owner who is trying a different business
model is Lou Mencuccini, a yacht and boat broker at
South Mountain Yachts in Monarch Beach.
"My industry is off more than 65 per cent from
last year as luxuries are usually the first areas that
get cut in tough economic times," he says.
Many boat owners need to sell their vessels but
can't afford the 10 percent commission that
Mencuccini says is industry standard.
So he has introduced a lower fee for service
that helps people sell their own yachts, much like the
reduced commission of real estate brokers.
Sellers pick from a menu of services such as
pricing research or how to prepare a vessel for
sale. "They are all the services that I provide as a
Full-service broker but you can pay for only those services you feel you need help with," he explains.
