What People Are Saying

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "Just wanted to say Thanks for helping me find a great boat for My Retirement Years!

Your web site, along with the link to 'World Wide Sail Boat Search' made it so easy. I was able to compare many boats in New England and the Eastern U.S....... But what was most important, was You, being there every time, that I had the time to look at a boat on the water! And I must add that Your Spring Sailing Seminar was very informative and helpful in prepping my boat for this years launch.

Many Thanks, Puffin is really a 'Dream Come True'."
Jim Bunton, Wareham, MA

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "It gives me a great deal of personal satisfaction to highly recommend Mr. Ed Stott and the very best yacht broker I know. He will definitely help you to buy the right boat for you.

My wife and I were first time buyers. We spent months talking to different brokers and searching the web for just the right boat. We would never have purchased our boat without Ed's help.

Ed is a superb yacht broker. His professional expertise, his meticulous attention to detail, and his genuine concern for our interests made all the difference in the world. He was always ready with timely and correct information, he never wasted our time showing us boats that we were not interested in, he dealt with the seller in a firm and fair fashion, and - perhaps most importantly - he never pressured us to 'close the deal'.

I am truly grateful to Ed for his professional service and his business ethics. I can recommend him to any potential boat buyer with enthusiasm and without the slightest hesitation."

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "I didn't know Ed Stott when we first spoke on the telephone. I had some questions about a boat advertised in Sail Magazine. During our conversation, it was evident that the boat was not the right fit for me and Ed offered to find my 'dream boat.' After asking all the right questions he began his extensive research on my behalf. He stayed in touch with me during the search and within two weeks had qualified a boat that he knew would be perfect for me and my family.

I was surprised that he wanted to travel with me to South Carolina to get my first close-up look at the boat. Not only did he travel with me that time, but also for the survey. After I completed the purchase and sale agreement, he continued his extraordinary service by interviewing captains for the journey to Boston, providing a list of everything I need for the trip (including spare parts), and covering every detail for the closing and delivery of the boat.

Even a year after my purchase, Ed still continues to help research and answer my questions. In my thirty-plus years of boating, I have never met a broker that works so hard on his clients behalf. He has proven over and over again, that he is a man I can trust. I strongly recommend Ed Stott. He is the 'best in the business.'"

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "Early in 2006 my wife Linda and I had the pleasure of making contact with Ed Stott as we shopped for a sail boat. We knew what we wanted in a boat but had never been through the process of making such a purchase. Ed was there during every step of the purchase from the initial viewing of numerous boats right through the survey, the closing and the delivery from Massachusetts to Maine. Ed was very informative and a pleasure to do business with and was always readily available. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking to buy or sell a boat."

"I just want to say thanks for helping me with my first major boat purchase. I appreciate that you carefully listened to my thoughts, concerns and issues and were objective during a very emotional time. I was impressed by your diligence at detail, and how you covered every step of this process so that I wouldn't make a mistake. I am thrilled with "Play-Mate" and plan to have many years of pleasure from this yacht. You certainly are a professional, and do your job very well!"

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "I'd like to express my sincere thanks for your help with my recent boat purchase. Being new to the process, I could not have gone forward as confidently as I did without your honesty, your willingness to answer my questions, and your agility, guidance and insights when the right boat came along.

Buying a used boat had always struck me as a complex affair -- potentially tedious, confusing and adversarial. You proved that notion wrong. At every turn you overcame legal and contractual difficulties in a calm and gentlemanly fashion. During the survey, you showed me aspects of the boat -- both positive and negative -- that made my decisions clear, informed, and pragmatic.

On top of it, your presence in the cockpit on my delivery represented unparalleled service, so that not only do I look back on the buying experience as a pleasant one, but as the keystone of a positive relationship with my new boat.

You are an asset to your profession, Ed. Let's keep in touch. Best always,"

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "Not only is Ed a great broker, but he is fun to work with. Ed was able to locate a buyer in an incredibly short period of time for my boat that had a very limited market. Ed went beyond the call of duty to help make the transaction go as smooth as possible.

In addition, Ed was very diligent in finding me a new boat. I was looking for a very particular kind of boat and Ed never gave up. My first choice for a yacht broker would be Ed Stott."

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "I met Ed Stott when I called to look at one of his listings while searching for my first boat. I had no idea what I was doing, except that I wanted to fulfill a 20-year-old dream of owning my own sailboat. Ed met me at the boat (an ‘86 Catalina 36, if memory serves).

Now, he could easily have sold me that boat then and there. But instead, he took the time to learn a bit about me, my experience, and tried to gauge exactly what I was looking for. His advice to me: “Keep looking. You’ll know your boat when you find it”.

I’m sure Ed regrets that advice now! I was so impressed, that I called him a few days later and asked if he could help me find “my” boat. A four month odyssey ensued as Ed showed me boat after boat, gradually learning what my needs were while I gradually learned how to be a bit more discriminating.

Finally, on a sunny October day in Rhode Island, Ed brought me to the boat of my dreams, an O’Day 322 in exemplary condition. As he had predicted, the minute I stepped on board, I knew this was “my boat”. We gamely proceeded to go look at the other two or three boats we had lined up to see that day in RI, but it was really a waste of time; I had found “her”.

Ed then helped me through the complex purchase process, and made sure my interests were well protected. After the sale, he continued to follow up on a few sales contingency issues to insure everything went according to our agreement. Things went so smoothly that the previous owner and myself are now good friends. I wish some real estate brokers I have worked with were so thorough!

All I can say is, Ed Stott lives up to his motto “Where sailing dreams begin”. Thank you, Ed. You certainly did this for me. God bless."

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image "Ed, Thank you so much for doing such a terrific job helping us in selling our boat. From the very beginning stages of exploration to the final signing of the purchase and sale agreement you were attentive to detail and most importantly to the needs of both us and the buyers. That attention made the process comfortable for all involved.

You guided us in the positioning of the boat so that once presented to the public the response was positive. When the potential buyer from Canada expressed a need to expedite the proceeding and then we added to that deadline, you went far beyond what was expected. You organized a flurry of schedules with surveyors, buyers and sellers that would probably set a record. You even managed to find the time to attend all the surveys and sea trials. When we had to go out of town in the midst of things, you prepared things to go smoothly via fax, email and phone.

We received a long email and many photos from the new owners upon their arrival back in Canada, expressing their pleasure with the boat and the process of dealing with all of us. The whole experience was a success thanks to you." Sincerely,
Ann Irving, Lexington, MA

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image Just a look back on the sale of "Forever"

Working with Ed was a pleasure during the entire process. The sale was consummated in a month. He kept close contact between the buyers, the documentation firm & me during that process. Ed's help during the day of survey was above and beyond the call for duty, in preparing the boat for the sea trial and to the haul-out for the remaining survey. His efforts were very very helpful to me.

I heartily recommend Ed & SetSail Yachts as the broker of choice.,

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image This fall we were shopping for a sailboat when we met Ed Stott. We were immediately surprised by his professionalism, immense availability and his knowledge. Ed is very rigorous when it comes time to evaluate a future purchase. It is the first time we met a salesman who stopped us from buying too fast. He was really concerned that we find the best boat for us. We ended up buying a Hunter 340 and we consider that as a perfect transaction, a great price but especially THE boat meant for us. Thank you Ed !

SetSail Yachts, Inc. image I first emailed SetSail Yachts thru a listing on Yacht World. I never did go look at that particular boat but at the time I did give Ed Stott an idea of what I was looking to upgrade to. I have two growing boys and cruising on our 29’ C&C was beginning to feel cramped. I had contacted several other brokers over the past 5 years doing a soft search, figuring when the right boat came along at the right price, I’d make a move. Ed was the first broker to remember me and about 4 or 5 months later, he called to tell me about this beautiful 36’ boat that I needed to see. With my own boat ready to launch the following week, I was hesitant to look but my wife and I went anyway and we fell in love with the boat and made the purchase. I don’t know how many people Ed called to look at this boat, but I knew that he was the type of professional that knew how to find buyers for boats and how to find boats for buyers. I asked him if he would broker my 29’ boat and he only agreed after he had a chance to really inspect it and determine that it was a good enough boat for him to represent. Within 2 ½ weeks, Ed had found a couple very interested buyers and a sale proceeded soon after. I have since recommend Ed Stott to several friends and recommend him and SetSail Yachts to anyone looking to buy or to sell. He is a true gentleman, an honest broker with a great sailing background, and very organized. The best part of this story is that my family really enjoys our new boat. Thanks Ed.!
